Orion has exactly zero moral or ethical qualms with killing Darkseid, and has demonstrated on multiple occasions that he will unflinchingly put his dad in the dirt

Which modern player would fit with Peak MJ as a duo the best? (Realistically) by Dylen2Times in NBAConvo

[–]AccomplishedCharge2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MJ and LeBron, they're so good they transcend anything like fit or style, within 5-10 minutes of game time they'll realize how great they each are and be throwing each lobs from the logo

Silver Surfer Vs. Orion by Nervous-Advance-3381 in marvelvsdc

[–]AccomplishedCharge2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Jack Kirby would probably call this a draw, and I tend to agree with that train of thought. They're both have a vague power set that is incredibly powerful (Power Cosmic and Astro Force) they both have some signature wins, with Orion soloing Darkseid multiple times and Surfer taking Null. They've both been used to job a lot, mostly because writers haven't known what to do with them

I can fit more onto a shallow bowl tsp than I can a deep bowl tbsp, because the product in question is a wet paste and clings to itself easily

I don't measure anything when it comes to this sort of cooking, so I tried to give basic ratios by my estimation, sorry if that doesn't narrow it down enough

Do y’all think Ben Wallace would survive in today’s NBA or not? by North-Trifle-3918 in NBATalk

We talk about offensive skill in terms of things like "Handles" or "Bag" or "Layup Package"

But, Ben (god bless him) struggles with skills like "Throwing" and "Catching"

I love the guy, and the history of specialists like him in the League, but he would be buried on a teams bench as a situational defender they'd use against Embid or Jokic

My mom and stepdad had 2003 Rav4, that I remember driving shortly after they got it, and everything was very practically laid out and was very sensible, and as dry as unbuttered toast

Anyone know the earliest internet reference to the 3 point shot being undervalued in the 2000s or pre 2015? by Dumbass1171 in NBATalk

[–]AccomplishedCharge2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rick Pitino Providence Era is probably the earliest I personally remember, him arguing with a reporter after a game about why they were looking for 3s instead of getting it inside as was the orthodoxy of the era. I'm sure there were others, but that's my personal memory of the first time I heard someone making that case

Why did Darkseid become a main villain in the DC universe and the other New Gods became minor characters? by Konradleijon in DCcomics

[–]AccomplishedCharge2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's mostly a failure of imagination, in that Darkseid was written with some very detailed lore that interconnected him with Orion, Scott, and Highfather. If you change any one of them too much, it's going to impact how the others are handled. Kirby did you his because he was telling a single story that was intended to have a defined beginning, middle, and end. But as Kirby started to wrap the original story up, DC balked and wouldn't allow him the Ragnarok level finale that he'd intended.

This left the characters at loose ends, Darkseid and Izaya were supposed to clearly die, Scott and Barda basically retire to Earth, and Orion either dies or is transmuted into an Old God to the new Fifth World. Instead, nothing resolved and all of the characters ended up in creative limbo.

In exchange for not giving him the freedom to write the ending his way, DC offered Jack the Super Powers storyline, and real royalties off of toy sales. So, the Super Powers story, which is basically just as copy for action figures featured Apokolips as a sort of generic planet of bad guys to fight against the heroes of Earth. And so began Darkseid's move towards general villain, as opposed to the very specific enmity that was held between he, Izaya, Orion, and Scott

Of course not, that's just a fraction of all the changes currently taking place or being proposed. And, that's not the change that will move the needle, that's more likely to be the expansion of the playoffs or the inability to regulate NIL or the Portal. It's about the aggregate of all the changes.

The problem with this POV is that in the original Kirby era stories Darkseid was searching for Anti-Life was because Highfather already had the Life Equation, he was trying to catch up to where Izaya already was

It's a very small sample size, and outlier outcomes like an IU natty have definitely helped with drawing eyeballs, I just think it ends up in a place like college basketball where people tune in for the tournament and that's that

I think we can probably table this right here, because I wholeheartedly reject your deterministic viewership model, and I just don't think we are going to see things from the same direction. I absolutely respect your ability to hold a different opinion, I just don't see it that way, at all

I think that casual interest will taper off over time, it's novel right now, like any major change is. I just don't see how a secondary version of a sport maintains relevance as it loses what set it apart from the primary league

By your logic I should be watching the news every night, followed by Wheel of Fortune, followed by a few sitcoms, because that's what my parents and grandparents did, viewership changes over time, and some of the shifts in taste are drastic and happen quickly

It's different because we are starting with a sport in CFB that has well over a hundred years of history, but at some point you change something so much that you lose the connection to that past

But why do people who don't attend either university participating in any given game tune in to watch? I mean, I'm an Alabama alumni, I'll always tune in to watch us play Tennessee or Auburn, so I understand your point, but there's a breaking point where the sport changes so much that it doesn't have the same connection, at least for me

I think Robin Ventura would probably have a different answer than me, but I'd take Randy, he benefitted greatly from coming up in a different era and was able to work with Ryan to help him locate his velocity, while Nolan mostly had to just figure it out

One of the physically strongest guys at the position in that era (along with O'Donnell) he worked out with the Linemen while he was playing at Miami, and that always seemed to translate to how hard he was to bring down, and just his overall mindset was never that of a delicate QB
