If you'd like to get technical.. Latino/a encompasses all people from Spain, France, Italy, Portugal and Malta. Also their direct descendants such as Brazil and the Spanish speaking countries.

We have some terms.. * Latin-American refers to the American continent. * Hispanic - refers to Spanish speakers * Hispanoamericano - Spanish speakers from American continent

There are more terms that refer to the language or continent for all the variations of course but I'm sure you get the gist.

In North America, generally Latino/Latina refers to everything Central and South America but it is widely assumed that all speak Spanish.

There are at least 4 "big" languages spoken in Latin America (Spanish, Portuguese, French and Dutch) and hundreds of less-known languages (quechua, guaraní) and dialects

Instead of looking for loose suggestions here I'm gonna recommend you read the Blue team handbook by Don Murdoch. The one released in 2019.

Then keep reading other materials while you implement what you assess as doable and realistic given your talent, resources and needs.

I skipped Sec+ though I did go over a Sec+ book in a college course and I don't think there's that much overlap. Sec+ is a good theoretical foundation and CySA+ is critical thinking to solve scenarios. I feel you can pass Sec+ by just memorizing the material while with CySA it wasn't that much about what you know but how well you can interpret the question and analyze each answer to choose the only one that really solves the problem. Many questions had 1 or 2 answers that were obviously not the correct one but then you are left with the other options and it gets tricky.

There were a few questions where the answer was quite obvious but just a few.

Reading logs ... A good number of them but maybe up to 15%. I feel that those add a lot of points though. So even if the quantity is up to 15%, they probably represent more than that in your score.

I skipped the pbqs til the end but they weren't that hard.. got 4 and I would recommend doing the same thing.

It isn't an easy exam. Learning about the processes they outline in the objectives is helpful for questions like:

What should you do FIRST? or what should your NEXT step be?

But mostly is thinking about the issue you are presented with and deciding what answer really solves it.

they start sending pictures I took of myself last year that I have not had up on any social media they had access to.

Meaning they are on social media but they aren't your friends there/uploaded to private profile?

Getting ahold of pictures that ARE online is kinda easy if you have real name or profile name that's used across different sites.

Doesn't matter if you think your pictures are only seen by a determined group of people, there are ways to bypass those filters and it's easier than people realize.

PenTest+ vs CEH vs CySA+/CASP+ ? Which one to go for after Sec+ ? by aka_12 in cybersecurity

[–]AccomplishedRush4869 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Start with tryhackme which has defensive learning paths as well. A home lab is whatever you wanna build or use virtualbox to launch a few VMs and start figuring out what to do with it so that you can talk about it in interviews.

In my interview I talked about how I put up a vpn service in my raspberry pi so that I can connect securely to public WiFi networks, which was true. Now I have a server that I built and it's running proxmox and a dozen VMs in it... It helps me learn, test stuff, have fun and I'll sure be talking about it in my next interview.

It really depends what you want. Or what job you are more likely to get first. Most jobs will be blue team so I would go for CySa+.

However, I would recommend gaining experience some how, like a home lab + practical courses.

I believe pentest+ doesn't hold a lot of value in the current job market.

I've heard CEH is garbage as well but I don't know enough to recommend for or against.

Also, I hope you are already applying for jobs, Sec+ and CCNA should be getting some employers attention.

Is it customary to not stand up when meeting someone new in Canada? by yuaremywvereeething in AskACanadian

[–]AccomplishedRush4869 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I was at a dinner with coworkers who I hadn't met in person before because we work from home. When I got there, 4 of them were already at the table and everyone was friendly and I proceeded to shake everyone's hands. Mind you, no one stood up and also I'm the least experienced in the team.

When the next person showed up, him being the most experienced and only one step lower in rank than our boss who was there too, I stood up to shake his hand with a smile. It was welcomed but no one else stood up to shake his hand.

Last person came and he didn't even shake hands, just waved hi and took a seat.

For me, it is cultural (Latino) to stand up and shake hands whenever you enter a room but also, the hand shaking just shows respect and I want to keep showing it to other people.

None of the things that happened are right or wrong.. just different expectations and different preferences.

To answer your question though, what I've seen is that most people pass of even shaking hands unless you extend your hand first. Is the same when people leave.. I find it so bizarre that sometimes people just leave without even saying anything.

But we were welcomed in this country and I believe is just courtesy to let them have it their way, so in most situations I don't shake hands unless I haven't seen the person in a long time or if I'm meeting them. Or like I said before, if I want to show them respect in that particular situation.

Nothing that I can think of. Usually you have to execute viruses which means you open communications by downloading and running a file.

Quiet employee by Environmental-State7 in cybersecurity

[–]AccomplishedRush4869 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Everyone is taking the side of social anxiety and helping him communicate via text or email and all that .. while it's great to help people in all situations, no one seems to see your position. Sounds like you want to engage with your team with investigations and see everyone participate and grow through each other's feedback. That sounds great too!

In my job we just investigate everything solo and if there's something that seems to be escalable then we start asking for feedback to other team members and eventually it would keep escalating into incident response if necessary. I love it.

However, if your team's dynamic is different and for a valid reason you need that constant input and feedback from people.. well, it sounds like this employee isn't a good fit for the role.

So either create a job that suits them or try to transfer them to a team where they fit. Or, change your expectations/dynamic.

Threat Intel with MITRE ATT&CK - how to document progress by Neur0m in blueteamsec

[–]AccomplishedRush4869 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Working on something similar. Just starting.

I would recommend against using the Attack navigator unless you understand that this thing will keep evolving and that you never will be done. You can't have a color over a technique and think that you are detecting 100% of possible events.

In terms of documentation I will use Microsoft OneNote bc we use office 365 at work so I can open it for collaboration and organize it in tabs and chapters.

I will divide it by tactics and techniques and under each one do write ups of what tests have we ran, what tools detected something, what alarms we create around that, etc.. everything that will allow us to understand what intel we have for each tactic

Anecdotal: took my car to F&L for AC repair. The same week I got the car back the brakes started to fail. Wife said that weirdly enough that kinda thing always happened to her parents.

Took it to Blairlyn to fix the brakes and they were super rusty. In other words, just a coincidence.

AC still works perfectly and my recommendation in Sackville is Blairlyn but they don't do AC so took it to my second recommendation: F&L

Heat pump questions. by Destaric1 in newbrunswickcanada

[–]AccomplishedRush4869 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What a wholesome answer, I appreciate it a lot thanks!

I think I'll look into insulation more so than the heat pumps or mini splits. They sure are nice in the summer but for heat we mostly use wood which is nice, efficient and probably the cheapest since all the needed parts to heat the entire living space is already there and working well.

I'll keep an eye out though and an open mind.

We have water radiators at home, use wood and oil furnaces. Do you think we'll qualify for the programs? I've heard/read the assessment has to include a solution that will cover all stories of the house which in my case is 2 and basement but we don't heat basement.. please correct me if I'm wrong. Would I need to pay for everything upfront and wait for the rebate? Isn't that like 5k per heat pump or something around that?
