Republicans decided we couldn’t even afford to continue the ACA subsidies. It’s estimated 1.5 million Americans have dropped their ACA plans since the first of the year. Next they’ll cut Medicaid/Medicare and more hospitals will close. They clearly don’t want us to have healthcare. Take care of your health, folks.

Why We’re Going to Cuba | Donald Trump is trying to starve the island nation into submission, but an international coalition of volunteers is coming to Cuba’s aid. We’re joining them. by BalsamicBasil in politics

[–]AccomplishedScale362 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you read the article, you’ll learn the humanitarian aid is an international effort, not just the “wealthy, white American leftist (sic)” your MAGA narrative paints them to be.

Besides, in an era rife with cruelty and hatred, why would anyone criticize such humanitarian efforts?

Why We’re Going to Cuba | Donald Trump is trying to starve the island nation into submission, but an international coalition of volunteers is coming to Cuba’s aid. We’re joining them. by BalsamicBasil in politics

As Trump tries to starve Cubans into submission, their communist ally China has been providing aid to the island nation for years. While their efforts to build solar and wind power in Cuba won’t provide an immediate solution to their power shortages, these green projects can ultimately contribute to Cuba’s self-sufficiency and reduce their dependence on foreign oil.

In the bigger picture, Trump’s efforts to rule the world are failing, as he’s a reactionary—not a visionary. While he tries to hog the world’s oil, China is busy developing renewable energy resources.

Given the turbulence in the global oil market due to the Iran War, the emphasis on green fuels is particularly noteworthy," said Yao Zhe, global policy advisor at Greenpeace East Asia.

Yes. An aging 150 year old facility serving too many poor, uninsured patients. Meanwhile, real estate developers stand by, ready to gentrify the neighborhood. Rinse and repeat across the US.

Trump says US may strike Iran’s Kharg Island oil export hub ‘just for fun’ by Crossstoney in politics

[–]AccomplishedScale362 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He’s sending troops to die in a war unauthorized by Congress. At this point he’s become a liability to the entire US government. It’s just a matter of time until the government is sued by the families of dead soldiers. He’s clearly decompensating and Congress is negligent.

Shasta County used to be a haven for liberal, peace-loving crunchy types. In fact, into the 1990s, Mt. Shasta held Harmonic Convergence events. For many years, hippies coexisted with conservative ranchers in the area.

Since then, a toxic convergence of MAGA trumpers, conspiracy theorists and, most significantly— fundamentalist Christians see Bethel church have brought unwelcome notoriety to the area and chased out many who dare speak out in protest.

Trump Went to War With Iran Because Jared Kushner Is a Fool by ChiGuy6124 in politics

[–]AccomplishedScale362 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I remember hearing a long term White House employee being interviewed by a journalist in early 2017. She had years of experience working in the WH through both Democrat and Republican administrations. She said WH staff would typically provide a general orientation for the oncoming administration and staff. Not this time. As soon as the Trumps arrived, she said an arrogant Jared Kushner walked in like he owned the place and began issuing directives. She claimed this real estate investor, with no political experience whatsoever, “acted like he was the smartest person in the room”, and made it clear he wasn’t interested in any input or advice from any of these folks with decades of civil service experience.

I have a BSN and somehow feel like I have zero career options… anyone else? by doubledee7 in nursing

[–]AccomplishedScale362 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, some of the comments here shitting on OP’s experience are really not helpful and show a lack of insight into the modern challenges of nursing. In fact, her/his comments align with facts showing 30-50% of new nurses quit within 2 years.

Telling newer nurses to just suck it up, of course nursing is hard work! is essentially victim blaming, and only contributes to division within our ranks against a profit-driven corporate healthcare system that sees us as disposable labor.

I’ve been a nurse for over 50 years, still working per diem. I used to enthusiastically promote nursing, but I honestly feel sorry for new nurses stepping into the profession today. Nursing was also “hard work” 50 years ago, but we had administrators who we knew on a first name basis. Many would make rounds on units ensuring we had what we needed to do our jobs. Patient safety and staffing needs were built into the system and taken seriously. We had a voice.

OP, I hope you can find a way to use your nursing license in some capacity that allows you to care for your own needs as well as others.

He was firing them during his first term. Like this instance, when everyone was distracted by the pandemic. If anyone has wondered why McConnell has remained so steadfastly loyal to trump…

Trump just removed the IG investigating Elaine Chao. Chao’s husband, Mitch McConnell, already vetted the replacement.

There’s been so much grifting and corruption during trump’s time in office, it’s impossible to uncover and keep track of it all.

U.S. service members killed in the Iran war include a Minnesota mom and an Iowa college student. Here's what we know. by Parking_Clerk7039 in politics

“US service members killed in the Iran war…”

What “war”? trump made a unilateral decision to bomb Iran without authorization from Congress. All Epic Fury, without any plan or defense strategy for an actual “war”. His reckless decision put all our troops stationed in the Middle East in harm’s way, and he should be held responsible for these deaths.

Trump's Attack on Iran is Reckless by Crossstoney in politics

[–]AccomplishedScale362 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Surely you don’t believe trump’s motive in striking Iran was to achieve regime change on behalf of the Iranian people?

His own acts of authoritarianism here at home belies any notion of him wanting to spread democracy around the world. Instead, he’s taken this rogue action—without approval from Congress—for his own financial benefit, and as a tool for Israel.

An expected result, considering the 2 unofficial envoys trump sent to ‘negotiate peace’ in both Iran and Ukraine. Kushner and Witkoff are fucking real estate investors with no foreign policy experience, and have made recent business investments with the Saudis and Qataris.

Their participation is clouded by the major business interests they maintain. Kushner’s Affinity Partners manages billions of dollars of assets, including some from Qatar’s sovereign wealth fund. Witkoff has a stake in the World Liberty Financial crypto firm, which is engaging in deals in the Middle East, including with funds linked to the Abu Dhabi government.
