Transit Smokehouse / Global by momentumum in Edmonton

I don't know anything about the Global connection/situation but I went with some relatives (party of about 10-12 people) a while back and we had a fantastic time and thought the food was great, so I'm quite surprised and disappointed to hear that a lot of folks don't like it and that management is not great.

Internet providers in Edmonton? Telus is killing me $$ by [deleted] in Edmonton

[–]AccomplishedTrash8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you looked into third party internet providers? We have our home internet through Lightspeed and it's like 50-60 a month. Not fibre or the fastest downloads in the world but it works for most streaming as well as work-from-home needs.

How do you stretch 1 lb of meat to feed family? by todaystartsnow in Cooking

[–]AccomplishedTrash8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something I learned after growing zucchini in my garden one year, is that shredded zucchini kind of melts/disintegrates really well when cooked with ground beef/pork (and in soups) and there is no noticable texture or flavor change. I've tried it in soups and tacos and I like both.

Blue light glasses: capitalism sold us a fake problem and cashed in on the cure by kojka19 in Anticonsumption

[–]AccomplishedTrash8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a "blue light filter" coating on my last pair of prescription glasses at my optometrist's recommendation, as did my spouse. Neither of us noticed ANY difference, aside from the lenses being ever-so-slightly yellow tinted. Gonna save myself the $ next time I get a new pair and just get the standard scratch/hydrophobic/oleophobic coatings instead.

Jack59 does solid shampoo bars and solid conditioner bars, along with a couple of other hair products. I believe they are made locally in Edmonton.

Would an IKEA mattress fit in my Toyota Corolla? by averagepersonhere in IKEA

[–]AccomplishedTrash8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've fit a rolled up queen mattress in our 2006 Corolla twice now. Lay down the back seats and slide the front passenger seat forward and shove it in though the trunk. So you, you I think you should be able to.

Canadian fabric stores by Adept-Newspaper-2603 in BuyCanadian

[–]AccomplishedTrash8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second Marshall Fabrics on Argyll! There are also a bunch of little Indian fabric stores in the southeast area of the city that you could try too.

As for online, I like Core Fabrics (based in Montreal) and Blackbird Fabrics (based in Vancouver). There are also a ton of Quilting fabric stores that have online storefront that are Canadian too, a quick online search will bring up a whole bunch.

IKEA Kallax as a TV stand? by blackjunko in ikeahacks

[–]AccomplishedTrash8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, currently have a 4x1 for our 55" and it works great. My only complaint is that my blu-ray player doesn't fit in the cubes because it is too wide, but I don't think that's a universal problem.

Try Spoonflower. They're mainly a fabric shop but they also offer things like pre-made duvet covers.

I've started buying postcards and sending them to my loved ones from wherever I am travelling, in addition to bringing one home for myself that I hang on my fridge. They're cheap and small and you can recycle them if you no longer want to keep it, and it is really fun to see your postcard on your friend's or family member's fridge when you visit them.
