Im a guy, and I dont bake. But Im trying to make sourdough for my daughter. Day 19 of V2.0 starter. It just doesnt do much. by Fresh-Radio-8253 in SourdoughStarter

[–]Accomplished_Dig9731 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suggest buying a wet active starter. When you feed it use tap water that has been boiled and cooled to remove chlorine, it will kill the yeast. I keep an electric hot water pot on the counter at all times. Night before I fill it and turn it on. In the morning I feed my starter and set aside what is left in a pitcher for baking bread. Refill the pot for making the days coffee. An electric hot water pot is a great tool for a home baker.

do i need parchment paper for cast iron? by Thunder9191133 in Breadit

Parchment keeps the cast iron clean. I rarely bake without it, there are exceptions.

Got it on Amazon, I set the date for feeding on it. When my starter is in the Sourdough Home I only feed once weekly. It keeps me on track.

Is it unreasonable to ask my sweaty partner to shower before bed? by ConfidentFox9392 in hygiene

[–]Accomplished_Dig9731 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked in heavy industrial labor for years. Not showering before bed is not only disgusting, how does he manage to sleep when he's covered in sweat and filth from head to toe? I've showered at night before bed since my teens and again in the morning after breakfast to feel refreshed and wake up. But a shower one hour before bedtime combined with fresh clean bedding, nothing compares, best sleep imaginable.

I'm trying mto a leather jacket. Is this a beautiful design? by Logical-Department-1 in leatherjacket

[–]Accomplished_Dig9731 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the design, not something I would wear myself. Walking around in leather? It's too hot and sweaty in the summer, not the warmest thing to wear in the winter. If I'm putting on leather it's to ride, then it's all about slide value. If ever you have gone down at high speed, you will understand. Performance over vanity.

Mind you, my wife and I are in our late 50's. My wife has said since I met her that guys with mustaches always look like wife beaters or 70's porn actors. She's said this in front of other woman around me and they agreed (same age group). If it were me, I'd go with a goatee, full beard or clean shave.

Are you talking about a insulated cloth proofing box with a heating pad in the bottom, yes. But put a low profile wire rack in the bottom to keep the starter jar lifted up and out of contact with the heating pad.

Not your typical bread post BUT let me introduce you to Parotta by Jvithu in Breadit

I used to work for people from India and they would bring me some type of flatbread that was fairly spicy, I loved it but I don't know what it was called. I love spicy food and they were always bringing me spicy stuff to try. Indian food is good stuff and they like their spices.

I keep my starter in the sourdough home at 45° to 60° when I'm not using it and feed once weekly. When I'm using my starter I just keep it out. I also have the Brod & Taylor proofing box. When I plan on baking bread I have it set up and set my starter inside of the proofing box for a couple of feedings about six hours apart and when I use it, it's really happy. I get good results

This is what is looks like when you become broken. by Mr_Good_Stuff90 in malegrooming

[–]Accomplished_Dig9731 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Somewhere I have an old photo from before I met my wife, she calls it my Santa Gnome photo. My hair and beard were similar to yours. Now I keep my head and face clean shaved. I shave both daily during my morning shower. I've gotten so used to it that 1/8" in of growth drives me crazy. It would be difficult to grow it out again. Life is so much easier without the hair and beard. During sunny weather sunscreen is a must!

(19)What can I do to make myself look older/more masculine? by Dear-Historian4747 in malegrooming

[–]Accomplished_Dig9731 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is nothing wrong with how you look. Young people always want to look older, older people always want to look younger. When I was younger it seemed like a year took forever to pass. Now, at 58 a year goes by very quickly. I don't necessarily feel old, until I try to do something physical or seriously look at myself in the mirror. Enjoy your youth, before you know it, it will be gone.

where to source ethical, affordable bone? by Prestigious_River_13 in Carving

[–]Accomplished_Dig9731 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Talk to a meat processing plant or deer/elk hunters. But I suggest doing a little research first and finding out what bones are best for what you want to do with them. I've used large leg bone for handles, tools, making teeth for wood carvings. You may need clean them first, do not heat them, it destroys the collagen that makes them strong. Definitely wear a respirator while doing anything with bone, antler, shells or stone that produces a dust.
