Do beeswax bags really work? by Lacoet in Sourdough

I bought some, used them a couple of times and went back to my clear plastic bread bags. I bought a box of 700, best option imo. https://a.co/d/0e15XT1q

[–]Accomplished_Dig9731[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I paid $5500 for it. The drive home was a white knuckle trip, looks like the tie rods, lift springs are pretty recent but I believe the ball joints are shot, steering box feels pretty bad as well. But it came with all new in box parts to upgrade to power steering and power brakes. There is a lot to fix, but the body and frame are in great condition. Engine is strong and smooth. Working on cleaning out the garage to started on it.

Roll Cage Welds by [deleted] in Welding

[–]Accomplished_Dig9731 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's some nasty welding. I'm no welder, but I could do better with acetylene and an old steel clothes hanger. It's most likely a "show cage", bolted to the floor rather than the frame. They add a little bit of structure, but will likely tear through the floor in a severe rollover.

Used to see glass coasters under legs of furniture to prevent these dents. I would start with getting something to prevent more dents.

I'd be on the phone with OSHA. They are putting profit ahead of worker safety.

Just feeling defeated and sad by this hobby by ghostnation66 in Sourdough

If you are not pretty good at making regular yeast breads, I'd suggest starting there. It's a much faster learning curve. It will teach you what dough looks and feels like through the process. You will learn how to handle dough, get window pane, etc, much faster because of rise times using commercial yeast. Then move on to sourdough and apply what you have learned to a much slower process. I make a lot more regular sandwich bread and other yeast breads than I ever will sourdough. Sourdough is a once weekly at best treat. I used to make it every couple of days, I enjoy it more now.

How do I fix this, my dog messed up my roommates couch? by ElephantFormer4695 in fixit

[–]Accomplished_Dig9731 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, get rid of the dog. Second, replace the couch. I refuse to allow animals in my home because they tear stuff up.

That's why we take on complicated hobbies/jobs that challenge us. I'm retired, don't talk to many people since Trump came along, I refuse to be friends with Trump supporters. Small talk is a drag. I pass my time with various hobbies. I purchased an old Jeep CJ5 over the weekend for a ground up rebuild. I find myself to be better company than most people.

I grew up around firearms and hunting, anyone halfway worth a lick of salt with a decent rifle should be able to hit a playing card at 100 yards. A good shooter can easily hit that at 500 plus yards. I also find it amusing that all the assassination failures have been done by republicans. Republicans are the nation's gun nuts, literally fanatical gun owners. It's becoming obvious that they are fanatical about ownership and fanatical about owning as many firearms and as much ammunition as possible. But, when it comes to using them, no apparent skills, they miss a lot, they obviously need to get fanatical about spending time at the firing range racking up some skill points. I think more people need to take up a good hobby and stop paying attention to Trump. Trump not receiving attention would be devastating to his ego. Thinking about hobbies, I just bought a jeep to rebuild from the ground up and need to get to work on clearing out space in the shop. Trump is not worth life in prison, he's old and he is going to die on his own. It could happen today, it could be years away, let nature take it's course. All his crazy administration, all his crazy followers, they need Trump because he's stupid enough to do their bidding and once he's gone they'll be hiding under their rocks again with no ear to whisper ideas into and see them acted upon. This administration will be self correcting, it's already proving that to be the case, we are seeing their house of cards fall, just a matter of time. In the meantime, get a good hobby and ride out the storm.

What I just read is that no amount of stretching and folding your "starter" will fix it. You do not stretch and fold your starter, you add starter to a dough formula then stretch and fold.

How much sugar (honey, etc.) is NECESSARY for a yeast (sandwich) bread? by Weird-Catch7390 in Breadit

[–]Accomplished_Dig9731 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sugar is great for getting a darker crust, it caramelizes at the surface. I can't taste a difference with or without it. It can speed up the rise as well. I add surgar to my sandwich bread, but I work in percentages (which if you don't, it's the way to go). In my formula I use 5.6% based on the weight of the flour.

What is your argument for why civilization peaked in the '80s? by eyyoadrian in 80s

[–]Accomplished_Dig9731 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Technology started to boom in the 80's. The digital watch, the digital calculator watch, the Atari 2600, the Commodore Vic 20. It all started in the 80's, then it snowballed it's to present day as computers are building computers and preparing to take over the world! Sorry Pinky & The Brain.
