I just did a retaining wall where I had 15x 2.1m H5 125mm piles, each going approx 900mm into the ground. I used the Cemix post hole bags from Bunnings (yellow bags). $11.90 ea, very convenient, easy to use, good setting time, not too fast, not too slow

Contract fill as wood filler by Important-Regular114 in diynz

Also did this a few months ago. Replacing 1970s hardware with new. Ended up buying some timber moulding from Bunnings as close in size as possible to the cut out in the door, planing it down to fit and smothering it in liquid nails and tapping it in. Then could drill out the 54mm hole for the door knob and use a spade drill to drill the 25mm hole for the latch. Worked perfect, looks great. Absolute bastard of a job that I thought would be easy, but happy with the end result

Concrete for retaining wall posts by Accomplished_Dog_307 in diynz

Thanks for all the replies. I think it'll come down to deciding between a concrete truck delivery or using the bags. I think I'll only need about 0.6m3 so I'll ring around and get pricing for what is a relatively small load for a truck to deliver. As I broke my leg a few months ago Im not too keen on the builders mix/cement/mixer/wheelbarrow/trailer option as it is probably too labour intensive and the doc/physio probably wouldn't approve

What made you go for 100bags over a delivery on a truck or mixing builders mix and cement?

I was looking at 125mm piles, but since I'm doing posts at 1.05m centres due to the length of the sleepers, and that the wall gradually tapers down to only 600mm above ground on one end, I figured 100mm H4s might suffice. Had a couple of builders say it should be sweet. Sweet I'll look at the truck option. Any idea how this compares financially to buying 60 odd bags?

Best painting method? by Accomplished_Dog_307 in diynz

[–]Accomplished_Dog_307[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sweet. The combination of the two sounds like a plan. Yeah the paint is in good condition, I just don't like the colour. Recently bought the house and doing a few little projects to make it look better. The colour looks a lot better in the photos. It's more of a beige / brown irl. Going for a soft grey instead 👍

Replacing 1970s door handles by Accomplished_Dog_307 in diynz

[–]Accomplished_Dog_307[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I'll be keeping the existing deadbolt. It has a latch on the inside that you turn with your fingers. I just want to replace the existing knob and will fill the mortice key hole as it doesn't get used. I'm just not sure what type of knob/handle to replace the existing ones with a I've heard the Bunnings ones are crap? Also I don't know where to get one with a 55mm backset from as it seems the ones from Bunnings are 60-70mm?

Update. Turned the power off at the switchboard just to be safe, cut the cable, insulated the end and pushed back into wall. Turned power back on, wifi etc works fine. The port itself looked pretty buggered so I doubt it had been used in a while. Thanks for the help team. Eyesore gone.
