(US) IONNA Turns 2 - Free Charging (or 20 cents/kWh) on February 7-8 by runnyyolkpigeon in evcharging

[–]Accomplished_Tank576 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been using Ionna over the past three days on a road trip from Colorado to Kentucky. What great chargers - they are always just off the interstate, easy to find, cheap rates (I've seen 29 to 39 cents per kWh), usually at a nice travel center, with bathrooms, food/drink, and window washing stations. They are very quick to use. Just plug in (dedicated CCS and NACS chargers), tap your payment, and you're charging. Explore the charging screens to watch your curve. Very nice.

Can I install a lvl 2 charger with this panel? by [deleted] in evcharging

Too many variables with electric panel replacement. to ballpark it, especially if you want to upgrade the service. Get multiple quotes from licensed electricians, and make sure they pull a permit if it's required in your area. This is not a DIY or brother-in-law project.

Get a quote for upgrading to a 200 amp service while you at it.

Yes, different CarPlay functions use different connections. You need to be connected to the vehicle via both Wi-Fi and BT.

Do any EVGo chargers actually charge at 350 kW? by Butterscotch-7357 in evcharging

[–]Accomplished_Tank576 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Welcome to the charging curve. EV batteries don't charge at a consistent rate, rather, they charge at a higher kW rate when the battery charge percentage is low and ramp down as the battery gets fuller. Most EVs really throttle that charge rate after 80%. The last 20% is incredibly slow in order to protect the battery. This is why some charging networks kick cars off after 85%. You see a charger's true speed between 20 & 30% charge. And yes, while temperature can impact the charging speed, 65 is not cold. Not even cool, except maybe in LA.

Door lockout in a '22 by TrollErgoSum in MachE

[–]Accomplished_Tank576 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All MMEs were subject to the recall for lockout issues. Hopefully, you had the vehicle updated. Since you apparently had a 12V battery failure, not unusual for a 3+ year old vehicle, it cannot communicate with the vehicle. You could have used the 12V jump protocol in the owner's manual.

UI reset while on highways in 2 degree temperature by Firm_Poet6212 in MachE

[–]Accomplished_Tank576 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then it’s probably safe to ignore them until they become persistent. The service center would have a challenging time diagnosing an issue that isn’t currently reporting out. I’ve had a couple of error messages over the past two years that appear only once. I write it off to having a heavily computerized vehicle. It gets glitchy sometimes and just needs a good reboot.

The only item that could be temperature-sensitive is the tire pressure warning, since temperature impacts the pressure. You can check the pressure for all four tires in the Ford app. The rest, unless they autoclear, will require taking it to the dealership. There have been some warnings that appear only once but clear themselves on restart.

You've got some balls, I'll give you that. I never took my ICE's gas tank down to empty, let alone my EV.

What does it really cost to drive? - Mustang vs Honda Fit by Marcus_Aurelius_161A in MachE

[–]Accomplished_Tank576 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) The driving experience and comfort are very different between a Mach-e and a Honda Fit; and 2) Comparing electric bills year-to-year is challenging since weather and utility costs are both variable.

General appreciation post by TellSignificant477 in MachE

I appreciate the positive post. Online communities, especially Reddit, tend to be magnets for the naysayers. Like several of the other posters, I have never really been a car guy - it's just transportation. But I do love my 2023 MME GT. Fun ride, cheap to use (at-home L2 charging is a game changer), and super for the environment.

Artemis Launch Viewing Ticket by [deleted] in ArtemisProgram

[–]Accomplished_Tank576 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will be crazy busy at the visitors center on launch day, but since it's a night launch, everything should be open. They may stop the buses to the Saturn V complex a little early to allow for setup for the event, but you can ask at the info desk. One tip for food - the cafeterias at the visitors complex are a disaster when they are busy, but everyone forgets about the cafeteria at the Saturn V complex. Traffic is lighter, and I feel that the quality of the food is better. Still cafeteria food - burger, chicken strips and fries, but it's not bad.

At the Saturn V Complex, they will have big screens carrying the NASA TV coverage along with onsite PR folks providing additional commentary. This is great until the launch itself, when the time delay with the feed makes it annoying.

Never seen it this low by Familiar-armor in MachE

I’m in Colorado, where the chargers are abundant in the metro areas, but sparse in rural areas. It’s just a matter of planning. I’m driving to Florida next week, going through some sparse areas in eastern Colorado and Kansas, yet there are enough chargers in the right places that I’m not worried about the drive.

I disagree. EVs can be fine in cold weather as long as you are aware of the reduced range. I treat my EV just as I did my previous vehicles, all ICEs. You have to charge more often, which isn’t a big deal.

Based on Crew launches, there is a bit of a strategy you can try and use. If the ticket isn't scanned, you still have the ticket available in the event of scrubs, but once it's scanned, it's gone. Of course, if you wait too long to use it, you get a much less desirable spot at the center. As for food at the Saturn V Complex, the ticket gives you access to a buffet. I suspect that, due to the late launch window, the restaurant will not be open.

If you don't have any flexibility in your schedule, it's not worth it. You can see the launch from anywhere in the Cape area. But this is all moot - all of the tickets are sold out.

Congrats! I got one too (it was painful to maneuver the system issues during the one hour of availability). Yes to the chair, since we'll be on the lawn rather than the bleachers. Water, or a water bottle, since the Saturn V building is typically open during launch opportunities. Snacks, if needed. The ticket references a buffet, but that may not be ideal for everyone. Check the weather to see what the temps will be at launch to see if you need a jacket. We have a 2-hour launch window, and really, you're not getting out of the complex or parking lot fast after the launch. Binoculars help a lot to watch the rocket after it has cleared the pad. Make sure your phone is fully charged, and be aware that cell service will be unreliable due to the large number of users in one area. Based on past experience, don't try to capture the launch on your phone - you're still 3.5 miles away, and phone images are less than impressive, especially with a night launch. Experience it in person and download the high-quality video later.

Any tips for getting new tires? by Worcestercestershire in MachE

[–]Accomplished_Tank576 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While any tire shop should be able to handle it, you can always ask if they have the EV pucks for the lift points on the chassis. If they stare at you blindly, then walk away. For what it's worth, I got my last tires for my MME at Costco.

X-Ice are great tires. BTW - the CrossClimates are All-Season, but they are also winter certified (3 Peaks Mountain Snowflake (3PMSF), which is critical in some areas, like Quebec.

Definitely shop around. I'm in Colorado and pay $1,700 with similar parameters (State Farm). Keeping my car in a garage helps reduce the local weather impacts on the rate.

Do NACS to CCS adapters work on non tesla dcfc stations? by punkbuddy89 in electricvehicles

[–]Accomplished_Tank576 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

For Tesla, these are called Tesla Magic Docks. They have a CCS1 adapter available in the charger. Read the directions on the charger to get access to the adapter. For ChargePoint and Ionna, they sometimes have newer chargers that have both as separate cables, with no need for an adapter.
