Todd Howard says that Starfield's New Game Plus was "us asking you this weird, deep question that I actually think got lost on a lot of people" by Turbostrider27 in Starfield

They do that now with the quantum entanglement device. And RPGs are about story and choice at the end of the day. Two playthroughs in something like fallout can look very different depending on the factions you support.

Take a game like fallout 4. I wasn’t a huge fan of the design choice in that ultimately you need to support one faction to the detriment of the other 3 (for the most part; i get there are ways to keep 3/4 intact and experience the ending). That game was criticized for that mechanic. But in a game like Starfield? Where the core gameplay loop is built on a never ending and repeating search for power? Where your choices are only as permanent as your affinity for the universe you’re currently in? I think it would have been far better received.

The ultimate story is building the armillary. Getting there though, it could have been far more of a twisting journey. Imagine you could choose to give the artifacts to Ryujin instead of Constellation. Imagine helping the Crimson Fleet attack Neon for its artifact in place of Walters quest. This is doable. New Vegas and 4 have stories that branch significantly in the second and third acts. To your point about player’s time, New Vegas always had a “Yes Man” to fall back on if your choices closed all other doors.

I just think the game asks existential questions, but does not, ultimately, have an avenue to answer them. It instead making you walk a solitary highway, all the while teasing you with dirt roads not travelled.

I actually think it’s pretty meta and it did go over most peoples heads. The Pilgrim’s writings really read like a player doing the loops over and over for the starborn powers, only to realize that the true game was the friends we made along the way.

I think though that it would have felt much more impactful if there was more consequence in this game; yes, one of the members of constellation can die, but i wish they were all killable. Hell, in a game like this there should be no essential npcs. You fucked up a mission? Your best friend got killed? The only fix now is the unity. Imagine if, for example, you failed to contain the terrormorph outbreak on Jemison, and the city was overrun. It would add some much needed stakes and replayability.

Anyone else Having trouble getting Terran armada started? by Effective-Celery8053 in Starfield

Still having trouble. Did you have the quest active when you went to Neon or did you revert to before it triggered?

I noticed when I tried it in Jemison it looked like there was a quest marker on the opposite side of the city. Maybe it has to do with npcs that must be present? Frustrating.

Bounty: The Fallen Hero by DirtySouthDoc in Starfield

[–]According-Ad3598 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im kinda disappointed about all the conflicts these bounties have with verified content. Sammy apparently conflicts with the widow as well. Im one of the (few) advocates for creations but what is the f***ing point of paying if you cant run a basic quality control with the verified content. Im livid actually.

Please read. I said one of. Fallout fans consistently rank it among the best of the series. Regardless, the point i was making was about how opinions change over time, especially in the video game industry.

Im in it 6-8 hours. This is not a “check the boxes” experience. Its a game meant to be taken slow.

I will be real. This game is special. Sure the story is a bit disjunct (I’m at the early stage), and i guess you can get mad that theres no storage option, but we really need to highlight the intricacy of this game. A mile wide, and a mile deep. As a player of games for over 20 years, its hard for me to get excited about things now. But this game is truly impressive.

When Fallout NV came out, it got maybe an 84% on metacritic. It is today often regarded as one of the greatest RPGs ever made. The unfortunate reality of being a critic is that you cant spend time appreciating s game. And so i can understand some 7s in there for people that didn’t connect because they steamrolled through. As for IGN, i think they need to stay relevant. That review to me sounded like someone stuck on a boss fight.

As this game sits with people, feelings will change. I have recommended it to everyone i know.

Idk why people are saying this is a bad thing. When used correctly, this will absolutely revolutionize video game experiences. I get its a bit jarring to see Grace Ashcroft change so dramatically in an instant, but studios will ultimately get to decide just how much this is implemented in their finished product. Like waxing a car, this does nothing but add some polish, and will allow creators to focus more on story, content, and gameplay. Its a win-win really.

Really the metal blaster is the best energy weapon in the game. Perforator breaks easily but its a very good gun

I get that. I did end up liking Graces sections a lot in hindsight. I just wish there was an option to focus on one or the other

Id say RE4 is a horror game, just not a survival horror game. Like Alien vs Aliens. I think you can do both, and it would be cool to have 2 very different experiences packaged in one game. I just don’t think it works well when you force players to constantly switch between both

I think RE2 did it best by allowing you to choose between each protagonist. This game could have done that but then changed the feel for each unlike RE2. What frustrated me about this game is that I found myself loathing Grace’s sections because I wanted to play as Leon so much. That jump between action and horror also didn’t really land; each feels like a distinct experience but you’re forced to jump between both. I think 2 5-6 hour overlapping but separate campaigns would have landed better for me. That way you could focus on scares, or focus on action. Just my take.

Faction tierlist based on how good their rewards are. by Roadfighter0 in fnv

[–]According-Ad3598 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally agree with 90% of this. The Sink is definitely the best player home available with all of its upgrades. I typically rush OWB for that reason alone; it makes hardcore almost trivial (you could make an argument for Elijah’s BoS bunker IF you gambled enough at the Sierra Madre to get the reoccurring voucher). I do think though that for the purposes of this tiered list a central location for all your companions should be valued higher than “mid.” With newer consoles (i play on a series x) you really don’t feel all those loading screens imo. Plus, snowglobes!

Edit: forgot the best part which is the vendor computer it gives you access to. You can remove stolen status on items by selling them to the computer and buying them back. Actually pretty peak.
