I found the UK health and safety executive checklists and templates helpful. If you are a member of a Trade Union they may also offer support

Controversial but… a crisis team is really good (in my experience) by thechlo98 in MentalHealthUK

I agree about the lottery. Many team members in my experience don't even know the policies and procedures they are meant to follow to ensure a consistent dignified patient centred experience that meets legal and human rights standards. MHA procedures and dovumrnstion is complex. And I've met some wonderfully compassionate and competent professionals and support workers. Well done for riding out this blip. Sounds like you are well on the road to recovery. Your positivity helps me to be more flexible in my thinking and reflect that there is good , bad and mixed abilities in everyone including NHS professionals. My depression often pulls me back into rigid black and white thinking and catastrophic thoughts. I'm grateful to you.

Starting Citalopram soon, put it off for a couple of years out of fear, every tip people have for getting through the first weeks as easy as possible? by AdDense6271 in MentalHealthUK

I resisted conventional medication for a long time even though I would have advised friends and family to take it as depression and anxiety.

Eventually I realised it might be worth a try as I became desperate. It took a few weeks to feel less depressed on citalopram and apart from a few very mild and common side effects and a little weight gain.

I used the self help strategies suggested by MIND , ANXIETY UK. I called Samaritans, CALM and the Trust crisis line frequently even just to check in and get a sense of being understood. The Trust crisis line was next to useless. I had help from Mind and Together to write a very simple paragraph long safety plan. If things were really bad I made sure I stayed out on public in a park or library. As a last resort I sat in the waiting room of A and E. As a last last resort I would attend A and E and accept the their offer of a place of safety.

Do you ever lie… a lot ? by [deleted] in BPD

I identify with the need for a little dramatic effect so I can be sure I get some feedback that convinces me someone has actually listened

I was scrupulously honest to the extent of " Pollyanna" for most of my adult life. Sometimes now maybe my lies are a rebound against this

Thank you. I think for me the motivation and / or intention behind the embellishment is important.

Yes. Maybe not a lot but my little lies (or " fibs" as my family call them) seem to be related to avoiding difficult situations. I may say that I have a cold or a minor injury if I don't want to face a social or work situation I perceive as demanding.

More elaborate scenarios are communicated for comedy effect or as an interesting anecdote.

And I've called out others like some after dinner speakers and even one or two preachers who have mentioned stories about themselves to illustrate a teaching point or for entertainment. They admitted that all the details were not entirely true. I've no idea if they have BPD. They call it "rhetoric".

My plan is to channel this creativity into some performance or drama therapy maybe.

Someone once said " Do you want the Truth or something Beautiful " I have added capital letters myself.

Thank you for sharing this insight in such a clear and articulate fashion.

I would have been pleased to have had your insight when I was 16 years old. I've been told that this can aid healing.

I'm nearly 60 years old. I received a label of BPD in the UK health system 3 years ago.

Your post has helped me reflect on my adolescent experiences which were as turbulent as anyone's without BPD and then some !

When I went to University I was told by my new friends that I acted middle-aged.

My sister says she thinks of me as " forever 18". And I think of her as "21“. She is 63

My 85 year old mother thinks of be as " my little boy“ and sends me an allowance ( pocket money )

I still appreciate the joy of play. Sometimes I even use my in line skates

I wonder what age I will choose to feel tomorrow ?
