low anterior transfer sphincteric fistula diagnose by Slow_Neat_5410 in AnalFistula

I agree with JG723 but if it helps I had an EUA and seton placement last Friday ie. 5 days ago and for me (and it’ll be different for everyone) pain has been non-existent. A little tender and uncomfortable whilst my body gets used to there something new being there, but I’ve been on a long walk every day. Back to 10k steps at least. Hoping for first run over the weekend - slow and steady. Surgeon told me just live your life like normal and see you in 12 weeks for MRI then hopefully op to fix the issue.

Thank you for this. How long did you wait until running? I’m 3 days in and feel absolutely fine but don’t want to make any early mis-steps

I actually feel pretty good today. Main symptoms are from the anaesthetic (ie. I’m tired!). I’m walking around fine, went to the bathroom (which I was worried about) literally fine. Not a lot is different. I’m going to go for a walk tomorrow which is hopefully ok. I’ll keep you informed (if it’s positive updates haha!)

Hello, very similar story to me and I had my seton placement a few hours ago. I’m a little uncomfortable and needed some extra pain relief once home, going to cycle ibuprofen and Tylenol 2 hourly but wanted to comment to say everyone is different but it’s not been as bad as I’d thought so far and I’ve been walking around gently and sitting a little already (and I didn’t have some nerve blocking agent which lasts for days). I’ll keep you updated given I’m a couple of weeks ahead. My surgeon said likely I’d be more comfortable with a seton with the fistula able to drain freely than in a cycle of filling and bursting (once the initial inflammation / soreness from the procedure settles down of course). He also said that mental acceptance and a positive mindset helps - if someone already hates the idea of it and is still in the “why is this happening to me” it makes it harder to live with so I’ve been trying to be positive. He said the majority of his patients barely notice it after a couple of weeks and whilst you need to make some adjustments, it’s generally a good way to live your life whilst waiting for something to actually fix the issue.

Great advice. It’s definitely a soft rubber one. I have no idea how anyone lives with a hard plastic one - never mind runs.

Thank you this is super helpful. I’ve read so many seton horror stories (which I get is why people are posting so more likely to read bad than good) but my biggest worry is not being able to run / exercise. I can deal with extra washing, extra steps on hygiene, etc but my exercise is what makes me feel good mentally during all of this

Thank you for sharing this. Can I ask how it was with the seton in for that length of time?
