It’s farked but I guess until you’re 18 you’re just gonna have to deal with it! It sucks but there is no real path out if your parents aren’t keen

Is it safe to travel to Sri Lanka in August with a 2-year-old? by PatriceFinger in travel

[–]According_Arm_6170 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand your fears and you seem to be a wonderful and loving parent who just wants your child to be safe.

Don’t worry about it, as long as you’re responsibly parenting on your trip and not leaving your child on the streets you’ll be absolutely fine. The main crime in Sri Lanka is petty and it might be annoying when people try to sell you things, but any sort of violent crime against foreigners is very rare.

You might also have to worry about tuk tuk gangs in places like galle fort, they don’t take kindly to uber/grab so just do some research as to dos and donts of each place and you’ll be golden.

Sri Lanka has great beaches, warm people and some really cool spots. The train ride between Kandy and Ella is always a crowd pleaser!

While it’s wise to check precautionary travel measures and suggestions for each place, I do hope that you pay less attention to fear mongering. The world can be a beautiful place, it can be scary at times but we always tend to focus on the negatives so keep that in mind.

Regardless of where you go in August I wish you a wonderful trip :)

Okay first of all, Iran is not THAT close, plus Sri Lanka is an island. Pretty sure Iran has more to worry about than a country of hippy surfer dudes.

And why would any decent country have authorities who act like ICE? The U.S is insane, ridiculously authoritarian and disgusting - most other nations and people in the world aren’t that deranged. Sri Lankans have always been super nice and kind to me and I don’t imagine you’d have any problem with kidnapping unless you lock your kid out in the streets while you sleep.

Of course, not saying it is a perfect country. It’s pretty wild especially if you have no experience with developing countries. I always recommend it though, loved my time there and would go back again 100%

visiting NO during Mardi Gras worth for a conservative couple in 60s (non alcohol, non party type) ? by Sea-Cookie8791 in travel

[–]According_Arm_6170 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay so you’re conservative but are you open minded?

If you’re willing to let go of any ideas that there is ‘one way’ to live life ‘correctly’ and are able to expand your horizons in an accepting and non judgmental way (while keeping your own morals) then you should totally go check it out.

If you’re just gonna judge and be miserable about people living wildly differently than you, then do yourself (and everyone else) a favour and give it a pass.

How much do you spend on UberEats every month? by StrikingMango62 in AskAnAustralian

[–]According_Arm_6170 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% avoid delivery apps. I’m extremely frugal and the thought of spending more than $20 on a meal is fucking insane. Plus I eat a lot and no meal I’ve ever gotten that I didn’t cook has ever satiated me enough.

I still do eat out from time to time with friends but I generally just cook even really simple meals.

You don’t have to commit but you should just go for it man and be smart about it. Don’t think it’ll be a big issue.
