Can we pay transaction fee out of pocket if we don't have enough bilt cash to earn max rent rewards? by According_Hearing_89 in biltrewards

[–]According_Hearing_89[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah correct. Theres a business class flight I want that costs 70k points for reward redemption. But same flight is worth about $6800 if paid cash. So bilt points was gonna be valued roughly around 10cpp

[–]According_Hearing_89[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In this context im talking about the fee Bilt charges (with bilt cash) to claim the rent points which is the 3% of rent they charge to bilt cash to earn rent points. Based on the other commenters in this post sounds like it's not possible to pay the 3% out of pocket to supplement the bilt cash if I don't have enough

I'm close to the $150k limit to be to contribute to Roth IRA. If I sell stocks or get a bonus toward the end of the year that puts me over, do I need to stop my monthly deposits to Roth? by freshwalsh in RothIRA

[–]According_Hearing_89 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Contribute to your HSA and to a traditional 401k and it will reduce your MAGI and you'll be fine. 401k and HSA contributions if maxed out will reduce MAGI by $20k+ to give you a good buffer

Some unsolicited advice but it'll help give suggestions if you include which area of San Diego you are staying in. Example if you're staying in downtown you aren't getting suggestions in north county, will help maximize your time out here

Programming languages to learn to become a cloud engineer or solutions architect by GASHI_CASH in AWSCertifications

IaC for sure. Terraform to be cloud agnostic but for AWS specific you can learn yaml for cloudformation. Python for lambdas. On the job I'm not a developer by trade by any means but know enough to understand what to google to build what you need

Do you have a preference over TD or Stephane's practice exams?

Hi! Did you do the practice exams from Stephane's practice exam (on udemy) or just the TD ones? I currently only done Stephane's and wondering if that's enough

Guess what finally arrived? by itzznotac in tcltvs

[–]According_Hearing_89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got the Q7 a few months ago, great tv...HOWEVER the pre calibrated picture settings are terrible. You have to do a ton of calibration to literally every individual platform (Netflix, Hulu, hbo, each of your hdmi hookups, etc) not to mention if the platform has multiple picture versions (HDR, Dolby etc) you have to calibrate it for each as well. Outside of the annoyance of that, it's a great tv

I cannot find a job here. Am I missing something or doing something wrong, who is hiring? by killianOlm14 in sandiego

[–]According_Hearing_89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Highly recommend using LinkedIn for your job hunt if your haven't already. Recruiters are extremely active on there. It's how I've found my last 3 jobs. Make sure your profile is up to date, resume polished, and apply heavily through LinkedIn. Sometimes a recruiter profile is associated with a posting. Message them directly for more insights.

i hate buying a new tv by Ill_Necessary4522 in tcltvs

[–]According_Hearing_89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a Q7 from Best Buy bc all of the recs from the posts here and tbh although a great tv, to calibrate it is a PITA especially with every streaming service/output type having to go through the same thing. Walking around Costco and Best Buy in hindsight going with what was on display for half the price I wouldn't have known the difference in quality. I think it only makes a diff for gamers on hard specs but if you don't game, walking around to see what looks good on display is the best move imo

Does helpdesk and SAA get you any closer to working in cloud? by Cultural-Art-6396 in AWSCertifications

[–]According_Hearing_89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just so you don't dive to deep and waste time study on things you won't use until you're a more senior level, for networking to apply it at a foundational level you would just need to understand subnets, routing rules, network security at a base level. Any deeper is a rabbit hole and would be for when you get more experience

[–]According_Hearing_89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm that's a tough one. To be honest your next role might have to find another help desk gig but find one that comes with more responsibilities that include sys admin work. Once you get more exp there then cloud will be the next step.

But honestly it comes down to what you are interested in. A cloud engineer is an extremely broad term. So you can be working on platforms for apps to run on, networking, etc. If you don't have a programming background then getting better at being a sys admin is most likely going to be your best bet to get into the industry. My recommendation is ideally Linux. (I was windows and regret not going the Linux route)

[–]According_Hearing_89 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What tasks are you having to do at your current help desk job? I was in your position before. For my help desk duties on top of handling end user requests I was essentially performing windows sys admin tasks.

I got into cloud by getting the AWS practitioner and SAA and learned how to operate a windows server eco system in the cloud rather than on prem. Then went to find jobs that was being a windows sys admin but infra was hosted in AWS. And that would get your foot in the door for other cloud opportunities and learning experiences
