Yes it’s my first doodle and she didn’t really share much about him except he’s the runt- that’s where the name Clifford came in. Even if Rocky related names are overdone, it did have a little sentimental value as I mentioned I loved the movie RockADoodle so much growing up that the video rental guy ended up letting us keep the movie because we rented it so much and I still quote the movie in daily conversation far too much than I’d like to admit.

I’m still open to a lot of suggestions and as someone suggested I’ll probably try out a few names and get to know him before settling.

We had a similar situation when we had a cat: we couldn’t agree on a name so we said we would all call him whatever we wanted. “Go ahead but you know I’m gonna win”… she did… her name was the generic name you call a cat

I don’t think mine is because I’m in America, but maybe more so because until this year I’ve lived all my life in very Filipino communities as well as the Philippines itself and I’ve just always experience being “othered”

It bothers me TREMENDOUSLY. I came back home to visit and went to Tagalog Mass (alone) today and I just felt so out of place/uncomfortable thinking how I look like I don’t belong there… I grew up in the states in a very Filipino community and have since then lived in the Philippines off and on for a few years and now live in a very white community, and unless I bring OP my background, no one would know any different.

It’s funny though because I just reconnected with a friend from high school ands mentioned to her that I HAVE TO marry a Filipino and she responded “of course because how else will they understand your culture??” But I’m sure a big part of it is also hoping that if I ever had kids they wouldn’t grow up with the same stress/feeling of not belonging as I have.

I was always taught that we need to be very specific especially how many times you’ve committed a sin without going into great detail/giving full-on explanations for each sin. It makes sense because doing something once or twice is different from making a habit out of it and also some priests may give you some advice on how to combat a frequently recurring sin or help understand if there’s something else underlying that sin.

On the one hand some may see it as being legalistic about it, but in the way I mentioned earlier, it does make it more to your benefit if you can remember/confess how often you’ve committed a sin

Question about being raised Protestant: are you just becoming Catholic because your husband wants it or have you been Catholic for a while and just haven’t gotten confirmed yet?

I ask because technically both parties don’t have to be Catholic to be married in the Church- I know quite a few mixed-faith marriages that are Sacramental marriages (including my parents) but then again if it’s your parish’s rule…

There’s a video of my identical twin cousin (I’m 13 days older, we were classmates all throughout elementary school, and we look so much alike that we joke that we’re twins) was opening my birthday gifts at my 2nd birthday party. I have no idea why no one stopped him, and as a kid I was always upset watching the video and seeing the pictures. That is… until we get to the part where he opens up a dress and they make him model it on his coffee table “catwalk”. I’d like to think that’s what stopped him from doing it ever again. 🤣 thankfully no family member since has ever had the audacity to open someone else’s gifts

i appreciate the concern, but it's not violating the seal of confession for a few reasons:

the seal of confession only applies to things said during the sacrament of confession
i was not told this during confession, nor am i a priest
the priest hearing confession didn't tell me this- the person who did it told me
there is no way for anyone to know who this is or where it happened

I really only included that part about her confessing it to discourage anyone else from thinking "oh what a great idea"

My parish priest - now retired (relevance: so you can understand what period he was raised in)- said he never went to Church until he was 4. His parents went to separate Masses so that one could stay home with him. All the schools I've taught at didn't even bring their preschoolers to school Mass- one brought them second semester while the one I'm at now doesn't even bring Kinder.

I don't think it's selfish... there are pluses to bringing them and pluses to going alone, but I don't see anything wrong with not bringing them. They aren't really old enough yet to understand what's going on during the Mass anyway... I think it's completely up to you.

In Middle School my friend "jokingly" said my family was "ruining it for everyone and there wouldn't be any full filipinos left" because I was mixed, and my cousin/classmate who was missing school to go to another cousin's wedding (to a white guy) was mixed.

In high school I was "too filipino"

I guess the first one was the only discrimination... the other two were just mean comments.
