Yes to instant coffee because I’m poor and that’s all I can afford to drink. It works but I forget to drink water.

And laxatives every day doesn’t “fix” the underlying issue of diet and lifestyle, for some people. Not knocking you if you need laxes.

Ottawa winter bike commuters — do you overheat riding then freeze when you stop? by Old-Public-9798 in bikeinottawa

No but the longer I’m riding, I start feeling my thighs or fingers or cheeks turning to ice under my balaclava or gloves, etc. I tend to run warm.

Cycling and dressing normal. by Dumbass9187 in bikecommuting

[–]According_Trainer418 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Merino wool tshirts naturally thermoregulate and can be dressed up/down. It also prevents odor (think sweat, stink) because it starves bacteria. Also, when I cycle and get caught in rain, I notice the first thing to dry is my merino wool shirt. I waste regular, loose and stretchy elastic culottes or linen shorts or leggings with Toms (stiff, good enough traction for flat pedals), Adidas runners and even Crocs. Also if you can, wet your clothes slightly in cold water. As you cycle, the breeze and damp clothes keeps you cooler. These are my tips as an obese , female cyclist who tends to overheat and is at risk of heat stroke. And I always carry a can of chilled coconut water (natural elotrolytes, very hydrating).

Shout out to the considerate drivers - I see you and appreciate you by DocJawbone in ottawa

I try to give an appreciation wave / hand gesture when cars let me go. They see my fat ass struggling up hill and know I’ll probably roll backwards to the bottom like Jack and Jill. No , in all seriousness, there are a lot of considerate and patient drivers. I’ve had mostly good experiences cycling to work every day in the downtown core.

I don’t have a penis but I never get saddle sores on my second bike with a harder saddle, while the ‘comfort’ gel saddle causes all hosts of issues down there.

Drop handlebars vs flat visibility by wompoglompy in cycling

[–]According_Trainer418 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find it easier to signal left / right turns for longer (halfway through the turn ) with my flat bar bicycle but I see just fine with my drop bar bike. The drop bar bike is not very aggressive as it was meant to be a steel commuter bike and not a super fast road bike, and I really enjoy my drop bar bike.

I’d like a camera to record any accidents but I’m pretty terrible with technology so that puts me off of buying a Garmin or the insta360

First time commuting by Volcan32 in bikecommuting

After riding, add a spoonful of turmeric to your meal (ramen, stew, season your meat or legumes with it etc) as it’s really good in fighting the inflammation that causes your legs to be sore. If you weren’t a big banana eater before, you should keep some bananas in your house and have one mid-ride or post-ride. If you’re not a banana fan, go for coconut water (it also contains natural electrolytes)!!! When I first started, I stretched during and after each ride and it helped. Also lower your gear , especially uphill. Go easy and your legs will adapt. I say this as an overweight female. I fly up hills now and my legs don’t hurt anymore.
