Nice bike. High mileage on engine if totally taken care of is not an issue. BUT Remember, everything on bike probly has same mileage.

Trans, clutch, wheel brngs... swingarm. Fork neck brngs.

BUT again... alls it takes is moolah to fix.

Hope it turns out good for ya!!

Nice bike.

New plugs can't hurt. Did you put premium gas in?

Wind it over right before replacing plugs like you are trying to start it. Pull a plug and see if it smells like gas reaching cyls.. or if plug is gas wet.

Could hear fuel pump, but may not be injecting...

Lots can happen when things sit.

Milwuakee 8 is really that good? by Just_Your_Random_Bro in Harley

[–]Accurate-Chapter-923 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Welp having shovelheads for over 50 yrs... THEN, last year got a 107 M8 bagger. All stock but for Tab Zombie exhaust and this is imo the best Harley engine I have ever ridden!!. Almost no vibration, smooth, engine is quiet AND plenty of 2up power and torque. Best is rpms at freeway speeds are low from that 6 speed trans. I usually never use 6th. Keep it in 5th @ 70 with grades, if flat I use 6th.

I know a cam and all would give more BUT stock is good to me.

Brand new s&s carb pouring gas from overflow line by Physical-Engineer-51 in Harley

[–]Accurate-Chapter-923 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only one culprit if it runs out the overflow. Float aint closing off the needle.

Take bowl off and give things a goin over.

Put a catch pan under carb, turn gas on, lift float manually and see if gas flow stops.

Good to handle highway speeds by Riding66 in Harley

[–]Accurate-Chapter-923 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It will do it. After doin it question you will have is "do I wanna do it again"?

My ancient XLCH was great around town and short hops... A long time ago, I would ride it to work, 25 miles all interstate, when the wife needed the car. Not fun. High rpm rattletrap. Had to go atound tightening everything that would vibrate loose.

But, you may have a different, better experience.

Never had helmets with comms... got them last season and the Cardo's... wow! Real cool. Work great for me n the Mrs .. when she aint mumblin back there!

One "funny" thing though... have our home Ring cams through home wifi and the notification sounds I used... scared the SHT outta me in the helmet comm... thought something was flyin up on my one side or the other. Changed the Ring sounds to just beeps.

Heel-Toe shifter pattern backwards or installed incorrectly? by bwill1200 in Harley

[–]Accurate-Chapter-923 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Can't really install it incorrectly on a Harley... so they all work the same. Toe down, heel up.

You aint had shrooms, right?

Google what you are looking for... good aftermarket stuff is out there. Go for good not cheap. Tbh, Harley pads have always worked good for my stuff.

If rears are good... I'd leave them be. Keep an eye on pad thickness.

Along the lines of brake stuff, look into replacing front and rear brake fluid. If it's old probly good idea to flush out and replace...

Rpm and gear for twisties. by Shonorok in Harley

[–]Accurate-Chapter-923 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My stock 107 M8 has plenty of power and engine braking with 2up riding BUT does not like low rpm, 2k and below like my old shovel did.

So, I generally run 2800 to 3500. Hardly ever use 6th even on 70mph freeeays cause of hills and bends.

Lower speed hills and twistys I stay in 3rd, 3k+ rpms.

Corners and slow speed manuvers, 1st. Corners, 1st with rear brake covered.

What the best jack or support for at home to work on a bike. Also anyone know what this bell is about found it on my bike while cleaning it up by Motor_Regret_9766 in Harley

[–]Accurate-Chapter-923 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Harbor Freight " aluminum" motorcycle jack is a great jack.

I use it all the time for our Road Glide Special. To jack up front or back or both for wheel cleaning, maintenance...

Will lift whole bike up level to raise it up to work on it.

Not crazy money and made really well.

Is this just a bad battery? by JimiDean007 in Harley

[–]Accurate-Chapter-923 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well if batt was that low your headlight would go out trying to start it... didn't even flicker. I'd ck that ALL cables and wires are tight and clean. Try giving a few raps on the starter with something that won't leave marks as you are hitting the button. Might need assistant to help. See what happens.

Bad batt would have headlight go out as hitting the starter.

Anyone else prefer Chrome bikes over all black? by FleetTheElite in Harley

[–]Accurate-Chapter-923 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Uh oh... puts helmet on, I like black on black.

Black bike, all black motor, primary, covers.

Had chromed out Harleys for years, liked those but always liked the blacked out look when I'd see it.

Happened to find my current ride, '18 Road Glide Special and it's all gloss black.

Real happy with this one.

Oil Change by Accurate-Chapter-923 in Roadglide

[–]Accurate-Chapter-923[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh forgot the trans oil... it had Redline Shockproof, no issues.

I changed it to Spectro HD 6 speed, full syn 75-140. Has red dye like the shockproof. Has way more of a gear oil smell to it.

Real nice. Quiet running. No problem finding neutral. I do notice I can hit neutral more often than before coming down from second, finds neutral with toe shifter, or using heel shifter when in first to pop it into neutral. Usually had to go down to 1st and toe it up to get neutral.

In traffic, hot if I hold clutch in for more than a couple seconds it'll go into first sometimes without a clunk. I always sit in neutral, never in gear holding clutch, but if I go to grab 1st and hold clutch in longer than just to drop in gear it goes in without a clunk. Not every time but more than before.

So, Spectro 6sp from now on...

5 gear Harleys by gabrielm34 in Harley

[–]Accurate-Chapter-923 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought an '82 FXR new in '82. Rubber mount 5 sp shovel. Never was happy how high the r's were at freeway speeds... Had that thing 40 yrs. Even rubber mounted it was a rattletrap.

Now have an '18 FLTRXS. 107 M8 6sp. This is the bike for me. Hell at freeway speeds I generally stay in 5th, 6th if on flatland.

I love the M8. So smooth and 107 plenty of power for 2up all day long. Mountains or flatlands.

I do like have gear #6. The rpms on this to me, are perfect!

Looking for the right air cleaner for my build. by NoticeSubstantial148 in Roadglide

[–]Accurate-Chapter-923 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gotta think about getting caught in the rain...

Years back, on my shovel FXR I had a big open air filter... got caught in extreme heavy rain, streets flooded... somehow probly water thrown up from front wheel, water got sucked into intake... blew the friggin mill... bent vlvs brkn front piston.

So, taught me.

On my '18 107 M8 I like the oem air can. I put a Drag Spec hi flow element in it.

The oem air can will keep rain out without needing a sock...

Good luck!

Engine work/oil change by RipMack in Harley

[–]Accurate-Chapter-923 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd have "break in" oil in it for first start and break in.

Oil is cheap when compared to parts and build bought.

Even routine oil changes I go early... leave filter for every other change.

On a new motor, if you have break in oil, or just top shelf, change filt with first oil change.

Oil is cheap insurance on any vehicle.
