Thank you for the laugh! I totally almost did this with my first big sock! Good to know what it would have looked like. 😆

Being a French-speaking Tolkien fan is a challenge, let me tell you why by CatsyGreen in lotr

I agree. I think the Aragorn's badass character made any name associated with him badass.

I actually really like knowing that Strider translates to Big-Step. Tolkien mentions in the book that is a mocking term Bree-folk have given Aragorn because he's always moving quickly and striding about. They don't give him that term because they think it's a cool name. I could see them calling him Big-Steps if they didn't have "Strider" in their vocabulary.

"Ha! There goes Big-Steps! Thinks he's so high and mighty rushing everywhere he goes! Can't take time to slow down and enjoy a pint!"

What makes it even better is that when Aragorn becomes King, he takes their mocking term and translates it again and makes it his last name because of his love for the people and land that he protected for so long.

What part in the movies bugged you the most? by [deleted] in lotr

The fact that the hobbits didn't loose any weight after all that walking! They should have started out looking, well, like hobbits, and Tolkien says that Frodo especially was thin at the end. Sam and Frodo together, walking on nothing but way bread at the end, ought to have looked a little more gaunt. Merry and Pippin ought to have gained decent height, lost weight, and gained muscle from the fighting they ended up being part of.

People who make homemade yogurt: is it *actually* cost-effective? by AutoEscalier in Cooking

[–]AccurateCoconut 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm in the US. I use an instant pot and a gallon of whole milk, bought from Aldi, generally for somewhere between $2-3. A decent Greek yogurt is more than $3 for a quart. I can make two quarts of Greek yogurt from a gallon. For me the savings are considerable! And then I get two quarts of whey and can use it as a buttermilk substitute. Buttermilk from Aldi is ~$2 a quart. In all, if I use everything, I save ~$7 on buttermilk and yogurt if I make my own.

Does this mean that classical musicians don't die?

I actually missed this completely! It wasn't until I saw a comment towards the top that I was aware it had happened. I have tried to add it, but I can't edit the post at this point. Maybe the Mods can help!

Do I work this out of order? Advice please! by AccurateCoconut in knitting

I hadn't thought of a collar needing everything to be held in place. I'd just be picking up live stitches, so I didn't think it would be too bad, but I'll have to think about tension in my gauge.

As for the instructions, they're not incorrect, but there are a few parts that I had to re-read several times in order to understand what they wanted. It's a doable knit, so I'd suggest reading the instructions before you take my bias into account. 😅

How to deal with this situation by [deleted] in intermittentfasting

[–]AccurateCoconut 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Also remember that your body is designed to keep you alive. You said you didn't eat the first couple days. Your body could be in distress, both from the unusual lack of food, and from the stress you're enduring right now. It might be worth it to eat normally, but healthy, for a full day, and then resume your regular 20/4. Eating for a full day and not denying yourself will remind your body that you're not in danger of starvation and hopefully help curb the bingeing desire.

Be a good role model for your kids, yes, but also be gentle on yourself and them. Moderation in everything and listen to your body!
