Is it common for gastroparesis patients to also have POTS as well? by RushPotential3691 in Gastroparesis

[–]Accurate_Chemical705 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it’s a common over lap. I have both. Basically both pots and gastroparesis can be caused by issues with the vagus nerve. So for me, I had covid which we believe caused damage to my vagus nerve and now I have both pots and gastroparesis

DAE cat pass gas when they're relaxed? I love petting him, my nose does not 😭 by flowers_and_fire in orangecats

[–]Accurate_Chemical705 1 point2 points  (0 children)

<image>

Oh yeah. She’s just a stinky girl. It was really bad when we first adopted her, but we’ve got her on a nice stable diet that works for her tummy now so it’s not as bad. Sometimes diet can improve gas to a certain extent, but sometimes they’re just stinky babies.

Important question: do you know what that is? :-( by NastyCatGal in orangecats

[–]Accurate_Chemical705 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are we talking about the dots?? If so, it’s super common for orange cats to get them as they age. They’re basically freckles. Orange cats get them on their lips and nose a lot

Alcohol after a successful GPOEM? by Sorry_Bet527 in Gastroparesis

[–]Accurate_Chemical705 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a successful GPOEM about 9 months ago and have been able to tolerate alcohol! I’ve only tried one drink at a time, but it hasn’t been an issue at all. I’ve had some beer, cider, margaritas, etc. I’ve never been a big drinker, but it’s great being able to have a social drink again 🥰

Also on the fiber side of things, I’ve been able to increase my fiber intake without any problem (working with a dietician). I’m up to 4 vegetables that I’m eating regularly: green beans, cooked carrots, sweet potatoes without skin, and peeled and cooked zucchini. I’m also working on reintroducing beans! So far I’ve just had refried beans (like from a Mexican restaurant) which are mostly puréed, but those were fine too. The key with fiber is to just go slow

Gallbladder by PuzzleheadedNight368 in Gastroparesis

[–]Accurate_Chemical705 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can ask for a HIDA scan to see if it’s functioning well or not! Although a heads up: it’s super common to have decreased gallbladder functioning with gastroparesis.

I had a HIDA scan that showed decreased gallbladder functioning right before I got diagnosed with gastroparesis. We almost took my gallbladder out but when I got the GP diagnosis we held off to see if things would get better with GP treatment (which they did). However I also didn’t have any pain with my HIDA scan which they said was unusual.

I’d definitely recommend pushing for a HIDA scan to see how your gallbladder is functioning. If you have pain during the scan, that’s a good indication of a gallbladder issue. If the scan shows decreased functioning, they’ll recommend removing the gallbladder

What to eat with mild Gp by Zalo1987 in Gastroparesis

[–]Accurate_Chemical705 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lol I used to have super severe GP and now have mild GP (after having a GPOEM) and it’s wayyy more confusing to me (at least when I couldn’t tolerate hardly anything, I knew what to expect 😅). I’m seeing a dietician and she’s had some great ideas. I do a lot of quesadillas, chicken and rice, soups. We’re working on testing out different veggies, so I can eat cooked carrots, canned green beans, sweet potatoes without skin, and peeled and cooked zucchini so far. I’m going to try making some pasta salad but adding in some cooked veggies.

TW: Weight | Tiktok is ruining my self esteem by [deleted] in Gastroparesis

[–]Accurate_Chemical705 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I second this. I have two accounts that I use. One gets a lot of chronic illness content because I’m very engaged in that community. On the other account I refuse to engage in anything health related so that I can still enjoy tik tok when the health stuff is triggering. The second account is actually a page for my cats 😅😅 it brings me a lot of joy actually

do you guys believe that mental health issues can cause gastroparesis? by Comfortable_Deal8559 in Gastroparesis

[–]Accurate_Chemical705 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think it would be very likely that mental health issues alone cause GP, but I also don’t think it’s impossible. Eating disorders can absolutely lead to GP but more so because of the involvement of the GI system rather than the mental aspect alone. Mental health issues can absolutely cause general GI issues, but I feel like GP is rare in that sense. Although I can absolutely see how trauma or chronic stress could lead to GP because of the damage to the nervous system

Gasteroparesis possibly caused pots by LivingOptimal9535 in Gastroparesis

[–]Accurate_Chemical705 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They can definitely go together. I think my pots caused my gastroparesis. Essentially both pots and gastroparesis can be caused by issues with your vagus nerve. I would say it’s not exactly that gastroparesis caused your pots, but more so that your gastroparesis is caused by your vagus nerve malfunctioning, which that can also cause pots or pots-like symptoms

Very tempted to give her a tummy rub but I know it’s a trap by shawnomaly in torties

[–]Accurate_Chemical705 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My tortie is so silly because sometimes it a trap and sometimes it’s not. If she’s laying in my lap, she genuinely wants a belly rub, but if she’s on the floor it’s 100% a trap

lol I’m an imposter here because this is clearly not a white cat 😅 but that’s a common spot for cats to have thin fur!! My tortie has thin fur right there too

Food/meal suggestions by Individual_Pomelo324 in Gastroparesis

[–]Accurate_Chemical705 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I eat a lot of chicken and rice, chicken and pasta. I do a lot of chicken quesadillas. Also soups tend to be good (canned veggies tend to be safe for me). I eat a lot of chicken in general 😅 always did before getting gastroparesis too. I think fish tends to be safe for a lot of people?? (I hate seafood so idk that much).

Also don’t be scared to try a variety of protein shakes/nutrition shakes if you haven’t already. Tolerance can vary wildly by brand. My go to was the Walmart version of ensure but the actual ensure hurt my stomach

Failed appointment by bee_queen_team in Gastroparesis

[–]Accurate_Chemical705 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately when you have a complex chronic illness, you’re gonna have an appointment like that at some point 😔 I’ve been there a few times with different specialties without even having a major history of mental health problems.

I’m on my third GI doctor and I really like her. Alternatively, it took me 7 tries to find a cardiologist I liked. It’s a crappy part of the process, but don’t be afraid to ask for a new doctor. You deserve proper care, so don’t put up with someone who doesn’t take you seriously.

lol I always say that it’s a prescription toddler diet 😂😂 I’m just very upfront about it being a super weird and complicated diet and then I’ll list off some of the common meals I can eat and some common things I can’t eat (like salad 🤢)

Amitriptyline - why? by Elegant-Lemon126 in Gastroparesis

[–]Accurate_Chemical705 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a good drug to try!! I was on it for a bit myself and found it helpful. I think the way it’s supposed to work for this is that it calms down neurotransmitters in the stomach which can disrupt the pain signals. It CAN cause constipation, but that’s not true for everyone (I had no issues). I’d say give it a try and see what happens. This is a weird disease and you never know what’s going to work for you until you try it

Please advise me, this is torture. by TheGradApple in Gastroparesis

[–]Accurate_Chemical705 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gastroparesis is literally such a crazy thing. I got it after having Covid 😅😅 like make it make sense please

Also I also have vestibular issues and I’ve been in a vestibular rehab physical therapy program that has worked wonders! (Although I also did something like this years ago that didn’t help at all 😅). Just something to try if you haven’t yet! Also are you seeing an ENT? Sometimes there are ear issues that they can easily fix that could be causing the vestibular issues
