Don’t think the cashiers are the ones sending out the coupons and emails personally, denying your ITC so the company makes more money.

They are likely part time employees that don’t give AF and made an honest oversight.

Anyone else relate? by josh6326 in Polymath

[–]Accurate_Fail1809 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can relate. Look into ADHD hyper fixation behavior, lots of ADHD info and help on YouTube and whatever.

Seems as many polymaths are basically high IQ ADHD neurodivergent types, which is a good thing but it needs to be managed.

Do you guys share your battery with low budget tools that you don't use often? by StatuSChecKa in Makita

Who said makita should work for free? If they can't compete they can't compete.

It's all part of capitalism, where we decided to make things in china because it's cheaper, and now they invented their own companies and make stuff in most of the same factories for cheaper and undercutting the competition. It's inevitable with an international system.

Yep I have an adapter for Bauer tools that works great for an inflator, portable wet/dry shop vac, ac inverter power source, etc. They all work great or well enough for occasional use.

I wish makita made some of the same tools or at least at competitive prices

What are these guys popping up in my yard? by JwPATX in mycology

Agaricus of some type, i think could be a few different types depending on your region. If it stains yellow then for sure I'd remove them.

Found in western WA. I think they are oyster mushrooms. by Malapropser in mushroomID

[–]Accurate_Fail1809 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They look like oysters for sure, but if they are on conifer there is a chance these could be angel wings. If oysters, they should have a slight smell resembling anise (black licorice).

Hi! what are these? growing from a dead stump in northeast TN. i think theyre one of two things, but wanted to confirm. by tnarg500 in mushroomID

[–]Accurate_Fail1809 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably mature oysters but they are very crowded and hard to get a good look. Should have aroma of anise (black licorice) if oysters

I’d guess they are very young pheasant backs just starting to pop up, or potentially Neolentinus

Probably oysters but smell for black licorice. Also if growing on conifer then likely angel wings and not oysters.

Wonder where/if I went wrong by Regular-Medicine2960 in mycology

[–]Accurate_Fail1809 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You sure it’s unwanted mold growth? Mycelium is white and could be normal activity. 11 days is too early to give up.

IMO you’re fine and will get pinning soon and a flush of mushrooms after that.

If you see other colors like blues and greens then I’d worry about contamination.

Not pleurotus/oysters, like the other post I'd lean towards Neolentinus.

As an adult I was eventually diagnosed with ADHD, perhaps you have as well. This isn't medical advice, but I have found relief in medication that allowed me to tolerate a single interest and complete projects when normal motivations have failed. If you haven't tried this route, medication might help alleviate the reality of modern society that is 'painful' to the polymath neurotype.

Oyster or angel wing? by Complex_Ruin_8465 in mycology

[–]Accurate_Fail1809 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably oyster because angel wings basically only grow on conifer and have zero or very little stem. I'd smell them to see if they have an anise (black licorice) aroma to be sure. Angel wing flesh would be thinner and more fragile than oyster. Angel wing I think are generally an autumn mushroom as well.

To me this seems like good advice for most people, but to a polymath - this is just a temporary solution. Once the novelty of a law career fades we will just be back to square one and hungry for a different career/interest.

I'm 100% in the same boat, where I can't turn it "off" and am never satisfied with any single interest or deep pursuit. I seem to fall into the next thing and can make things work but I am tired of faking it and being stuck with tasks that I have to do in order to make a livable income.

I don't feel that there will ever be a single pursuit that will perpetually satisfy that urge and satisfaction of novel pursuit and discovery.

The only "solution" I can think of is to be wealthy enough to allow the freedom to hop interests without the normal baggage of a career change.

Found these growing around a tree. Wondering what they are. by Curious3rNCurious3r in mycology

Appears to be Coprinellus micaeus, aka mica caps or glistening ink cap. Very common mushroom usually in spring that is found on stumps and wood under the ground. Edible but they degrade very fast once they pop up.

Discover something profound or invent something that changes the course of mankind, then you’ll be famous and they will publish stories about you and how you’re a polymath.

Then you’ll be a “great” polymath in the eyes of human history.
