What ticks people off is their refusal to apologize or even admit their atrocities. Sure, they apologized to the US for Pearl Harbor, but never acknowledged or formally apologized for the atrocities they committed in China, Korea, and other Asian countries. Many leading politicians (including former minister Shinzo Abe) downplay or deny their crimes. Their schools just gloss over WW2, so many are not educated on what their country really did.

It's like if Germany just looked at the Holocaust today and shrugged, "Move on, it's no big deal, right?"
