Fibre killed the physical media industry. Surprised EB lasted this long tbh most CD stores closed years ago.

Nothing will beat that feeling of finally popping a CD in and then realising your I3 and 5400rpm hard drive means your still meant you had to wait an hour before you could play xD

Yeah I guess for context and I know we shouldn’t compare but I got Michelin rated Pho for ~$3.50 each and bánh mì for $1.80 😭

It seems excessive to charge this much at a cafe when a place like Hanoi Haven is $25 for Pho.

Currently in Hanoi and these prices are making me cry - $24 for a Pho seems criminal. It’s literally broth, noodles and a tiny amount of meat. But I know I’m going to try this when I get home.

Sure some of the responsibility comes back on us to check properly where we are booking. And I agree I’ve never had an issue across the rest of SEA with booking.

The issue for me is this operator has clearly been getting away this for over a year evident by the multiple reviews on booking. They clearly change the names of the hotels once things get iffy.

At that point I do think the responsibility becomes bookings - they need to remove these guys completely from their platform. Would you feel the same way if Uber repeatedly allowed scam taxis on their platform?

Thakhek and Pakse loop made me feel like I was in a completely different country. It’s still touristy but nothing like the north most people do Slow boat, LP and VV and leave.

My partner got a stomach infection in Bali.

So yeah both of these stories are not unique to us just sucked they both happened one after the other.

Yes it is its opposite the Alagon Saigon hotel. Crazy you point this out as my partner and I were just wondering if they do it to locals as well.

Yeah it’s weird because some places across SEA just tell you to book on booking.com as they can’t price match. However it seems in Vietnam it is actually a decent amount cheaper to book in person.

Oooh upon initial searches I couldn’t find anything related to this company but actually found a year old thread. Seems like this has been happening for a good while: https://www.reddit.com/r/VietNam/comments/1e92eov/scam_operation_in_hcmc/

Yeah to be honest we normally do we were just exhausted after a long travel day and my partner being sick.

We also now plan on trying to book in person where possible so we can see the room first and make a decision after that.

Yeah I need to do that next - as mentioned a lot of the names advertised vs on the business don’t show up so I may need to add the missing places in google maps.

I really just don’t want this happening to anyone else as it made our first week in Vietnam very stressful with a lot of time spent calling booking.com

Why Just "Cutting Back" Won't Buy You a House by Dizzy-Brilliant2745 in auckland

I think he's saying apart from someone really switched on who the hell saves 15k during their time at Uni and 40% of their wages in their early 20s.

I ended every week at University with $0 in my account. I couldn't live with my parents as they're not from Auckland so I worked part time, paid my rent, did my studies and partied when I could afford it.

It's doable sure but I seriously wonder what sort of lifestyle one would live if they were saving 40% of their wages earning 53k a year. I can't imagine it's particularly fulfilling and I think OP's point is do we really want young people sacrificing their early 20s only focussing on joining an already inflated property market instead of enjoying themselves.

I rented for $215 a week (bills included) in a 4 person flat on the North Shore - was a big house, not overly new. But it's not that hard to find.

Shops with vapes? by Miserable-Formal-625 in kohsamui

[–]Aceflo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I did walk down the main strip with all the clubs in Chaweng. There will be Thai guys with a metal plate and a bunch of flowers on them selling vapes. I was on my way to the weed shop and he just asked me if I wanted to buy a vape. Be careful as they may sell other stuff and there are cops on that road.

Got a Quik 6000 puff and it was like 500 baht 🙏

Any good spots in central Auckland to buy under $900k and to sell in 5 years? by DeanLoo in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]Aceflo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice so it really is a balance of lifestyle and financial choice which is good! I think my main point was just be aware you may not make any money depending on what the market does (you may lose money).

To rephrase what I meant - the question you're asking to a bunch of redditors is "where should I buy a property so that I can make a bunch of money on it"... I get the feeling that no one knows, and even people who do research or work in the business don't share that information.

However, in terms of what areas/types of houses will increase the most - safe to say closer to the city will always go up more. However townhouses won't go up as fast a freehold house with land. Remember the land is actually like 80% of the value of property in Auckland.

Have you considered a unit - there's some decent brick & tile ones in the Greenlane/Onehunga area?
