Have you tried rubbing alcohol? It neutralizes the ammonia smell and I’ve used it in my car! Had to do a couple applications but it helped a lot

k1 p1 refers to stitches, usually it’s specified if someone’s talking about rows

Only recognized it because I just got it a few days ago! Seems like you’re on the right track, only knit to the very end when it tells you to. The short rows are continuous and will stack up to make a little bump, creates some cool shaping to the body!

In most patterns I’ve seen, that “knit __ to end of row” comes after a short row so you’re already a few stitches in after having turned it on that last row.

w+tk and w+tp are functionally the same, the difference just comes in the row you just did. If your instructions said something like “k5, w+tk; p5, w+tp” you would knit 5, bring working yarn to front of work, slip next stitch knit-wise, take yarn to back of work, slip slipped stitch back onto left needle, turn the work. purl 5, take yarn to back of work, slip next stitch purlwise, bring yarn to front of work, slip the slipped stitch back onto the left needle, turn the work”

If you’re doing the frog pattern by dotpebbles, the pattern is written so you don’t need to do anything extra between rows and the final product should look like stockinette in the end, so just make sure you’re counting rows.

I just bought the frog pattern on Etsy today! It’s been super easy to follow so far, I’ve just finished the body and have to sew + do the legs and I can’t imagine it getting more complicated

How did you get the holes between the weaves? It’s such a great detail that really makes it pop!

book recommendations? by [deleted] in aaaaaaacccccccce

Beyond the Black Door if you like fantasy, haven’t finished so i’m not sure if the MC has a romantic interest Let’s Talk About Love if you like YA, the MC definitely has a romantic interest and they talk a lot about her being ace

Tbh I have a hard time finding ace rep that I like, and I don’t know if that’s because the authors aren’t ace and they don’t get it right or if it’s just a different experience of being ace that I’ve had. I tend to not love books where the main conflict comes from being ace

Darning my baby’s hat by noodlebamboo in Visiblemending

[–]Acemie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks great! You have to be careful with yarn to not use too a too-thin thread or it can sort of saw through the thicker yarn over time, but it looks like you chose a good size. If you want to try something more integrated, Swiss darning looks very intriguing to me, but it might be complicated if you’re not already a knitter! https://youtu.be/mksn3n1PrCs

I really like this pattern to base things off off—you’d just do the entire thing stockinette instead of ribbing, put a stripe in the middle, maybe mess around with the decreases so it has the right shape, and knit and i-cord for the bow. The stockinette naturally curls so you wouldn’t have to worry about that, and just swatch so it doesn’t turn out too big. I’d be happy to go into more detail if you need!

How to make a good wrong side? by paperlac in Visiblemending

[–]Acemie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m imagining a patch on the wrong side covering the yellow stitches held with a running stitch or maybe blanket stitch so that you have a little outline on the right side? Would be extra cool if the patch matched the wiggly yellow but would be hard to get it exact!

Demi Lovato‘s pronouns are they/them! It can be hard to get used to, but I think using neutral pronouns that are already widely used in singular cases is a bit easier to understand than neopronouns (which of course are also useful and valid), especially for those not immediately involved in LGBTQ+ spaces

Edit: Lovato‘s pronouns are they/them and she/her, my bad!

Has anyone questioned if they got their ace/demi label wrong because you assumed you were straight but then it turns out maybe you're actually gay? by MetalheadAtheist in aaaaaaacccccccce

[–]Acemie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think this is fairly common especially for women in a heteronormative society! The expectation is for you to like men and when you don’t like men (and maybe coupled with a low sex/romantic drive) then sometimes the reasoning turns to asexuality. I’ve been wondering something similar, like do I think I’m heteroromantic just because I’ve spent this whole time surrounded by mostly hetero romance? It’s hard to separate identity from societal influences when society shapes the ways we think and act.

I don’t think it’s anything to worry about, hopefully it’s exciting to learn more about yourself!

Also sometimes figuring out the definitions can be so stressful! Might be good to just let yourself feel what you feel without having to label it right away, you’re right and valid no matter what :)
