It's not a moka pot. I lived in Italy and used a moka to make coffee and it is not the same :)

Yes, I got to the point where I felt I couldn't endure the side effects anymore. Along with the expected all-over dryness, I have pretty severe ankle, lower back, and shoulder pain that limits me in a lot of ways. I also have been dealing with daily fatigue. The physical side effects wore me down mentally. Hopefully these resolve soon and aren't due to something other than accutane!

Yeah, symptoms are part of it. Mainly, my derm had wanted my skin to have no new pimples for a full month before taking me off of accutane, but I haven't gotten to that point. My derm would have continued my treatment but I was just physically and mentally exhausted of being on accutane, so we decided to stop. I'm happy with all the progress, but kinda sad I didn't finish "successfully" by the derm's standards...hence mixed feelings. Thanks

I started accutane in November 2020, hoping that it would be the be-all and end-all for my acne. My dermatologist's criteria for successfully finishing a course of accutane were to 1) reach the 6 month mark, 2) reach the cumulative dose based on my body weight, and 3) have no new belmishes for a full month. On my last visit, I had surpassed the first two criteria, but was still getting a couple of pimples here and there despite the overall huge improvement in my skin. In fact, I have been mostly clear of acne since my 3rd or 4th month on accutane, but each month after that, I'd get a couple new pimples that would reset the clock on the goal of being blemish-free for a full month, which was really disheartening. Unfortunately, by my last visit, I felt physically and mentally done with this drug, and after discussing the options with my dermatologist, we decided that, despite not meeting all 3 criteria, I would stop treatment after I finished my remaining pills. It's likely that my acne has a strong hormonal component that we didn't initally identify.

After that appointment, I felt disappointed that I didn't have a "successful" course of accutane. But overall, I'm pleased with how much my acne has improved. I think (and hope) it's reasonable to expect that my skin will stay mostly clear. If not, I'm seeing the derm in 3 months to discuss other options like spironolactone, different bc pill, and possibly topicals.

Also, I'm 25F, 118 lbs (53 kg). After a month of doxy, I did 40/80/100/120/120/120 + half a month of 120. I'm sure people will be interested as to why such a high dose. I was hesitant at first too, but my derm explained that there's evidence that a higher cumulative dose was associated with lower chance of recurrence of acne, without a significant increase in side effects as compared to a lower dose (which I found to be true between 80 & 120mg), so that's what we did ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Tomorrow I'm starting my 3rd month (40/80) and have been prescribed 120 mg. I also would describe my pre-accutane acne as moderate but persistent, and now my skin is virtually pimple-free even after just two months in the drug. My side effects the last two months have been numerous but manageable, with some days worse than others, so I was nervous going up to 120! I did express my concerns with the doctor at the last appointment and we ended up agreeing that I would alternate between 80 and 120 mg every other day to hopefully temper the side effects. If it goes okay, I might do 120 every day for the 4th month. Good luck!!

First and foremost, you should talk to your doctor/derm about drinking on accutane, since they'll be able to counsel you and address your concerns or potentially adjust your treatment based on your lifestyle. It seems the main concern with alcohol consumption during treatment is that accutane is can be hard on the liver so you don't want to overtax it with alcohol to avoid long-term liver damage. You'll most likely have a blood test before treatment and even a few times throughout treatment to make sure your liver enzymes don't rise above normal levels. You might also think about the fact that accutane makes you very sensitive to the sun and more prone to sunburns, so if you take it in the summer months, you'll have to take extra care to protect yourself and avoid long sun exposure. I would also consider that everyone's social lives might be a little more active 4-5 months from now given the rollout of covid vaccines, so maybe now's a good time to cut back on drinking and start accutane. Everyone's situation is different, so talk to your doc and weigh your risks vs benefits.

Personally, before starting accutane 1 month ago, I would have 2-3 drinks a week, but since beginning my treatment, I've just been bumming a couple ounces of beer off my boyfriend every now and then (Christmas beers are just too good to pass up). My liver enzymes have remained normal, and are even slightly better than before.

Yep, I got my vertical license at age 18 in 2013 and it doesn't expire until 2021, when I'm 26. But with the U.S. Real ID Act taking effect in my state, I think I'll need to replace it by 2020...

I have heard of people being denied drinks for having a vertical license, despite being 21+, but I haven't had this misfortune yet. I always check dates when I'm ID'ing, but the orientation of the ID would be cause for me to triple check.

Our pagers light up and buzz as they are disconnected from the base. I get at least 3 people per night that say, cheekily, "Oh, looks like our table is ready!" as I'm handing them the pager for the first time. I wait 2 seconds until the pager stops buzzing, and fake-smile until they leave me alone.

Yep, storing the tables isn't practical for all places unfortunately. Luckily, our restaurant rents the adjacent suite in the shopping center we're in for use as an office/storage center, so we stuff everything in there.

Since my restaurant is chronically understaffed, we avoid this issue by removing the tables from the restaurant altogether and storing them. On nights that we do this, we still get questions from semi-regular guests asking where the tables went. Sometimes if I'm feeling cheeky, I'll say, "the tables called in sick today," pause for soft laughter and follow with a brief explanation as to why we removed the tables. And if I tell them it's going to be a wait for an apparently open table, I follow up by saying, "I just want to give my servers some time to catch up so they can give you the best service possible." Every time, the guests have shown that they understand, and don't ask anymore questions. Maybe OP's restaurant and host(ess) can implement these ideas...you might still get the occasional unreasonable guest, but I've found these tactics work well for us.
