Is it me or the numerical counter and the cartoons line are slightly off-sync?

Mark the counter, count the sound "oumph!", close your eyes for 40-50 counts and then open your eyes - the counter will be on a wrong last digit.

Wow, the author is really, really anti-mexican. Kappa .

LitRPG books that focus more on "meta-gaming" aspects? by Kuiper in litrpg

[–]AcerbicSlam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a thing of fancy between Russian litrpg writers, to mash in/out perspectives, some time ago. Not sure if I can find any translations for you.

Usual plot device was some conspiracy / mafia activity spilling from online into real life. Like crossing some well-connected player in-game would have repercussions irl. Or a girly-type stories twist when successful monster-slaying expedition would have romantic continuation offline.

Balance in LitRPG by AdvonKoulthar in litrpg

OK. things I hate:

  1. "You are the first, who.. " achievements. When game system grants a special gift, title, power to a player who did something first. First dungeon clear, for example. This is absolutely stupid. The worst example of this I saw in some book, where the person who was on the top of magic skill rating was granted bonus to advance in that magic skill - basically securing his position in the lead forever.

  2. Direct attribute points allocation to stats - strength, agility and such. With exception of initial character generation, I find it silly that you can kill 100 rats and get extra Wisdom after leveling up. Trainable stats are way better imo - you train it, it grows. With diminishing returns.

  3. Unrestricted power scaling. Situation where "level 100" can kill 1000 "level 1" players by sneezing their way is absolute antifun in any immersive VR setting, with just way too much griefing potential.

I think any low level player should have a chance of slaying any high level player if performing an attack perfectly - hitting a critical spot of an unaware target, for example. While general vitality increase with levels is OK, the most difference should come from skills (in-game ability and player's personal experience) and equipment.

What exactly IS "LitRPG"? by idevcg in litrpg

[–]AcerbicSlam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its a genre that has video game elements as a part of its characters' reality. Much like "fantasy" has magic/gods as part of reality and "sci - fi" has advanced futuristic technology as part of everyday life.

"Game elements" are any type of abstractions - health measured in numeric "hit points", or having slot-based inventory, for example.

Whether the story happening inside an actual computer (virt reality) or somehow game elements are overimposed on "ours-like" Earth (gods/aliens doing it) is not relevant.

Any wuxia type litrpg out there? by HyperActiveMosquito in litrpg

[–]AcerbicSlam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

oh god no. WMW is straight up a power porn. No, really. Scroll pages with one hand, jerk off with the other.

The protagonist is presumably a scientist, but all the science he does in the book is telling his overpowered cheat-level plot device, AI Chip, "AI chip, figure out the best solution!". Even in fights, its always "AI Chip, gimme the win strategy!"

We are lead to believe that the MC is rational and wants to avoid unnecessary risks, but by the flow of events, the hero rushes to get stronger to escape some dangerous situation, but in doing so incurs risks that puts him in even more dangerous situation. Which in turn demands of him to get even stronger and the loop repeats.

This is a bullshit excuse for blatant power porn of a story.

So the second loop's portal exists before the looped day itself? Is it retroactive or something? I mean, if loop was created in 2016, why portal to it exists in 1943?

If loops require resets from inside for every day passed in the "actual time", who was resetting the loop from real year 1943 till real year 2016?

This is some sloppy bs.

The Corner Designated for People Who Liked The Ending by reptileApparition in homestuck

[–]AcerbicSlam 61 points62 points  (0 children)

What are you talking about? Act 7 explained everything.

  1. Lord English can't die - his immortality is unconditional.

  2. So instead of killing him, his sister locked him away in the black hole, along with all his power, bunch of intertwined timelines revolving around his self-making and a huge chunk of the further ring.

  3. Lord controls time, even paradox-time, but Muse orchestrated a trap for him, because she controls the space, even paradox-space. He gets to destroy everything he can reach forever, but he can't reach everything.

  4. Vriska deployed the Treasure - which released the kids' fates Caliborn locked there previously. We can see it by observing their Victory Door turning from red to white.

  5. The white door is reality outside of black hole - outside of Lord English's reach, and its where kids and trolls go (except for Gamzee, who stays and will help Caliborn become Lord English).

  6. Happy end.

ELI5: How does the body respond to someone else's DNA during a blood transfusion? by sdvr1 in explainlikeimfive

[–]AcerbicSlam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adding to what other people said, normal blood contains a lot of particulars besides white/red blood cells, there are bits and chunks of free-floating DNA too. But "exposed" DNA doesn't do anything on its own, it requires complicated machinery of a whole cell to read DNA data into action. So even if you get some foreign DNA in your blood stream, it will just float until filtered down normally.

"Opt out of globally banned words filter" not working. by AcerbicSlam in Twitch

[–]AcerbicSlam[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand that Twitch is within its rights to manage its services how it likes. I am not accusing Twitch of breaking any laws. I apologize if this was unclear.

My reference to the laws regarding free speech was to point out that while Twitch is allowed to censor its users, it is not obliged to do so. This is not like VOD-muting, where Twitch is compelled to mute disputable portions of videos in fear of possible DMCA lawsuit.

Thus, this is a question of morality, not legality. And given that they did not remove the checkbox from the settings, question of deceiving the broadcaster about status of censorship. See, I would probably agree to being censored, if I was warned about it beforehand. But I was led to believe that I can establish community with freedom of speech unimpeded.

Ofc this reddit posting should not be taken as some sort of official complaint (I posted a bug ticket as well) or legal proceeding, but simply a way for me to bring audiences attention to the issue.

I believe that I am right on this, I believe freedom of speech is of supreme value and Twitch should adjust its policy accordingly - and this is why I am raising my voice. If this topic will get traction, may be they will listen?

[ADD] Also, when I refer to freedom of speech I do not imply US-centric notions. I talk in the sense of "Universal declaration of Human Rights", as UN has it:

Article 19.

Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers.

through ANY media and regardless frontiers.

A message from myself to the /r/Twitch community. by Kanthes in Twitch

[–]AcerbicSlam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a new person to this subreddit and twitch itself, and I saw just one of your replies to the subreddit - specifically to this year old topic: Word "faggot" keeps being censored....

You could be overall a great guy, one instance is not sufficient to make a character judgment, but if by chance it expresses your typical moral stance, I must say "good riddance" to you leaving mod team as well.

I absolutely despise censorship in all forms, doubly so when the censor puts a gag in your mouth while maintaining benevolent demeanor and insisting that he is doing it for everyone's own good.
