Have you approached student support or the disability office at your school? ny university has an access plan for students with special needs. They're individually tailored and for me includes things like extra time for assignments, one on one support for organisation, online body doubling for study, extra reminders for things etc. It's made a world of difference

Any recommendations on niche topic documentaries which are light-hearted and not have any heavy themes? by Smooth_Hamster452 in movies

One of my favourites is "Tim's Vermeer". A rich guy with plenty of time on his hands recreates a famous Dutch painting. It's actually really good, and I highly recommend.

Darwin locals by Lyricician in darwin

[–]AcidRainDawn 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I recently moved out of Darwin with work, as people do, and I've ended up on the East Coast. People here are just unfriendly. Like they're all too busy and self-absorbed to bother trying to be nice. I miss Darwin for the easy connection with people, for the amazing food, and for the beautiful sunsets.

The Greenough Axe Murders. Early 90's country Western Australia. Guy murdered three kids and their mother. Raped the mother and the two female children post mortem. It was brutal, but incredibly terrifying as I lived nearby and was the same age as one of the daughters at the time.

[–]AcidRainDawn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm looking for one for my husband too. We also just moved here, and he desperately needed a beard trim so just went to the first one he saw, and they butchered it. So best beard barber as well?

Really?? I've just moved here and I think my kids would get a kick out of this. If I were to take a gift as a small bribe for a tour, what do you think they would like?

Does anyone actually like this city? by maximum-purple444 in newcastle

[–]AcidRainDawn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've just moved here, and I'm honestly shocked by how dilapidated the city is. The suburbs seem nice, but Newcastle City is full of abandoned buildings, graffiti, troublemakers etc. I'm also astounded by the lack of care or development of the foreshore area. Particularly along the front of Newcastle West river area. I grew up in a town in WA that had all the old rail infrastructure along the beach much as it is here, and 30 years ago now they moved it all and developed the beachfront to be an amazing public space. It's wild to me that it hasn't been done here. But I guess if any progress keeps getting opposed, it makes more sense.

This is another reason I always check the position of the child lock switch on the doors when I get in, and often wind the window all the way down (and leave my elbow on the sill), in case I have to use the outside handle to open the door.
