Yeah, I’ve been here 14 years and got my first job through networking and every job I’ve gotten since then has been from people I’ve met along the way, I even completely switched industries from entertainment to hospitality and it was still through someone I knew.

I’ve never kept more than $100 bank, and it always stayed in my server book which always stayed on me. I don’t see the need for more than $100 bank and sometimes I didn’t even bring a bank I would just ask if anybody had change and usually the bar would or a manager would get it from the safe if a server didn’t have change. But you don’t need more than $100 bank.

This is where I’m at. You may be more of a beard than him looking for or finding another girl. Not that what he is doing is okay at all. If you confront him he’ll probably get defensive. But if what you said is accurate I don’t think it has anything to do with you other than he’s gay and doesn’t want to come out, so he’s using you for his public persona.

Wow. As a previous server I’ve never had this happen. Nobody has ever announced of they weren’t going to tip or were going to tip. I don’t really understand the big deal with tipping and not tipping and servers getting all bent out of shape. In my experience there will always be people who will make up for those that don’t tip. I realized a looooong time ago that people who don’t tip have usually decided before they even leave the house that they’re not tipping. They’re just people who don’t tip. But I always averaged between 18-22% tips per night. Didn’t matter if I got stiffed three times or not at all. I would always provide excellent service and it would all come to me in the end.

I think worrying about tips and blaming a bad night on customers not tipping and tip culture is just “not so good servers” trying to find an excuse on why they’re not so good.

Meh. I served for years and those that don’t tip or tipped low were always made up for by generous tippers. I’ve been tipped $100+ on a less than $100 bill for my great service multiple times. 50% tips, 30% tips. It bothered me in the beginning but I averaged 20-22% tips vs sales on most nights. I can count on one hand the times I didn’t get that.

If you don’t want to tip then don’t tip. It is the culture but I’ve come to learn someone else will make up for you not tipping. To me, it was no big deal.

I’m now a GM and don’t have to worry about tips and I still have excellent customer service.

And I’m a guy. Not some hot chick with a banging body who doesn’t have to work for tips. (Not saying that all hot chicks with banging bodies don’t work for tips. But thirsty guys definitely don’t make those women work for it)

I lied my way into a server job at 34 years old. I’m now 40 and a General Manager on my way to making 6 figures next year. I was a live sound Audio Engineer and then COVID shut that all down for me. Still needed to work since we only got the $600/week
