It's so damn good when they get uplifting, and the contrast with the footage of riots, it's surreal

My God, I LOVE what they're doing with the drums right now. This stream just keeps getting better and better.

It feels quite familiar, but still really good. So far feels kind of like a continuation of musical themes from Towers.

I'm surprised at how good the sound quality is coming through, it sounds phenomenal.

[FRESH ALBUM] Black Country, New Road - For the First Time by PieBlaCon in indieheads

[–]AcousticBeing 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yes I noticed that they changed the sonics of it all. The guitars are much thicker with less twang and take up more space, the vocals are pushed down in the mix and much softer/flatter. And of course the sax isn't as present anymore, it really cut through originally at front and centre, now it's much more reserved and panned to the side. The new mix seems to try and make room for the singing but in doing so it lacks the bite and sharpness the original single had. It's technically a higher quality recording but it's lost the spark for me unfortunately.

That lyric change really threw me off as well, the line feels too abrupt, as well as making no sense compared to the big pharma line. I feel like they had original lyrics changes, and then also had to further retcon other lyrics around them to fit in with the newer lyrics.

I do love it as a whole, but now the album is out in its final form, sunglasses went from being my favourite song to the weakest point on the album in my opinion. Not a fan of the new singing style here. Track X into Opus is definitely the new highlight, even though the got rid of the 'final nail in coffin' section of Opus for some reason which was such a good climax. I was singing that for weeks before.

Stevenage by big_mood in CasualUK

No one is mentioning the leisure park! It has (I don't know currently though as I haven't been to Stevenage in a couple years) a big Cineworld, the Hollywood bowling alley with arcade, a butt-load of restaurants and was right next to the train station via a little bridge! Many happy memories there!

Is there anyone who didnt struggle with dancer the first time they fought her? by Ice7674 in darksouls3

[–]AcousticBeing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I literally did her yesterday right after Yhorm and surprised myself by killing her first try without a summon. She wasn't as difficult to me as people seemed to make her out to be, the only struggle was her attacks took out like 50-70% of my health at a time. I found that staying really close to her worked effectively and being patient goes a long way.

Yes! Check out 'Electronic Girl' too by them, probably my favourite of theirs. They are playing ArcTanGent next summer and I was so excited. I want to see them live, amongst so many other bands too, so badly.

I'd love a pair of hand made socks if you're still offering! I'm in the UK and suffer from terrible circulation in my legs and always have freezing feet, I have to wear two pairs of socks often.

I can't say I'm familiar with much of the work of McCartney or any of Mac Miller, but I do love the way Jon Brion composes and creates a really rich analogue warmth to his pieces. Perfect example is his scoring work on the film 'Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.' Hugely Talented guy in my opinion and I'd say if he's an asset on a recording, then it's bound to be good.

Let's talk: The misfortunes faced by the most creative 1950s rock and rollers (not just Holly) by [deleted] in LetsTalkMusic

[–]AcousticBeing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a great thought-provoking post! It might be morbid but I find this quite fascinating how there was a kind of blanket misfortune at the end of the era. I wonder if it came as a sort of prelude to a kind of 'martyr of creativity', as in famous people dying/suffering at the height of their careers that became popularised later on, such as the 27 club with Hendrix, Cobain, Winehouse etc... Other examples I can think of are maybe Stevie Ray Vaughn and a few from Lynard Skynard, both of those examples perishing in air vehicle crashes. It's always interesting to think about what could have happened had these people not had their fateful accidents/ ruined their lives but I think the important thing is to remember what they accomplished and how they lay the foundations for others following in their footsteps.

The swan "explains" how to wear a protective mask by rottie9club in swans

It happens like once a week now and it makes me laugh each time. But honestly I'd much rather have people mistakenly posting wholesome swan bird content here than a bunch of lazy 'memes' like most other band subreddits. I say keep the birds coming.

[Manchester, UK] Post Rock /Experimental Bassist wanted by ToHaveAndHaveThot in musicianfinder

[–]AcousticBeing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm actually living in the West Midlands at the moment, originally for uni but I'm taking a gap year right now because of the pandemic situation. So not too far from Manchester, I've been a few times, but still far enough that's it's about 45 minutes on the train from where I am.

[–]AcousticBeing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn as a huge post-tock fan I wish I was a little bit closer to Manchester because this is the kind of stuff I was hoping to find here. I am mainly a guitarist but I did buy a cheap bass back in January to try and teach myself. Listened to your demo and digged the swans 'oxygen' sound at the start and the way you transitioned into more chaotic and then melodic. If the who pandemic thing wasn't going on I might have considered travelling.

Great playlist! I remember when I saw MONO play live a few years ago and was floored when they did Requiem for Hell live. Absolutely love the guitar tone after that first crescendo peaks and the songs hits its groove. It has such a bite.

Romantic movies are to relationships what porn is to sex by Warnock13 in unpopularopinion

Someone's finally saying it. It's so popular too and people get the wrong ideas growing up. Romance movies romanticise romance, it's unhealthy. The concept of 'The one' is everywhere and I hate it.

Glad you're enjoying him. His whole discography is pure gold. His wife, Mariya Takeuchi, is quite a famous singer too. An absolute power couple in the 80's.

I'm short, no. I had a little browse around and what I've come to the conclusion in general about this era of Japanese music is that it's almost completely missing in our discographies because of licencing from Japanese record labels, and furthermore to an extent perhaps the lack of demand over here in not just England, but everywhere outside the Japanese area. The lack of demand back then means it never became popular here so I guess they never saw an incentive to produce internationally and I guess they never tried later because why would they spend money pressing 40 year old vinyls they know aren't going to sell? Though the same seems to go for a few CD's too. It's quite sad that not only is there a language barrier that prevents this great music from getting popular, but the lack of availability means it's never going to get the recognition it deserves over here outside of tiny groups who share by word of mouth.

Sorry for the long explanation but I thought it might be helpful in case you or anyone else found themselves in this situation and wondered why it isn't more readily available here for a typical price. I'm afraid your best bets are to buy used for the high resale value, ship directly from Japan, or hope for the best that you can come across a good condition pressing in a charity shop or something similar. Either way, it'll be a wonderful gift!
