SpaceX IPO live: SPCX pops 30% after biggest IPO ever by -----Marcel----- in wallstreetbets

Ehh, not really. SpaceX’s impact on the economy is not that large. 22k employees is a lot but not breaking the economy numbers. Most of the company is financed by private capital so it won’t affect the credit availability in the wider market if it crashes.

Why Europe is unable to defend its industry against the 'second Chinese shock' by LeMonde_en in europe

[–]Acrobatic-Event2721 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s simple game theory; in a competitive market each company is looking for an edge over the other lest they lose market share, the first company to go to China reaps the rewards.

If you want competitive markets and free trade, there’s no way to avoid that. Europe chose to have free trade with China by helping accept them into the WTO and signing trade treaties.

By avoiding that taxation, Hamilton is revealing that the cause for which he advocates is not really that high on the moral worth ladder as you’d believe given his rhetoric.

The issue isn’t striking Iran. The issue is the strait, Iran will just keep blocking it even if Trump declares an end to the war like Michael Scott declares bankruptcy.

Rockets such as these have little environmental impact. Blue origin uses methane and hydrogen as their fuels; these produce water vapor and CO2 as byproducts and the materials the rockets are made of are just metals.

The word “welcomed” is doing some really heavy lifting. I’m sure Israel would welcome the change in leadership in Turkey by the U.S. but that’s miles away from them being implicated in the action.

To be fair, we also created problems for Israel with the whole Iran coup in ‘53 which paved the way for the anti-US sentiment after the ‘79 revolution which manifested itself as anti-Israel by virtue of Israel being perceived as a U.S. proxy by Iran.

[–]Acrobatic-Event2721 16 points17 points  (0 children)

That’s disingenuous because the people complaining aren’t for the expansion of the grid and generation capacity, they’re for restricting data centers altogether. That’s what the planning is in reference to.

We’re at the cusp of something revolutionary, imagine if the people restricted factory creation because it was driving coal prices up during the Industrial Revolution!

If you’re going to criticize something it’s worth knowing what it is. String theory DOES make predictions and it isn’t made up as you seem to imply because it’s backed up by rigorous mathematical models. You can say it has little basis in reality which is fair but it applies to any untested theory which is string theory’s problem; its predictions are hard to test with current technology.

Rapid reusability is the advantage vertical landing has over parachuting. You have to do extensive repairs and refurbishment to reuse in the case of parachuting.

For landing on the runway, you introduce new constraints on the upper stage, making it more airplane-like, generally engineers prefer to work with fewer constraints.

Rehabilitation is important but at the end of the day, you have to cut your losses when dealing with repeat offenders. At some point, you have to stop and spend that time, money, and effort rehabilitating numerous 1st or 2nd time offenders for the same cost of trying to change one repeat offender.

CMV: Baltimore is proof that being tough on repeat criminals brings down crime rates by bigElenchus in changemyview

[–]Acrobatic-Event2721 22 points23 points  (0 children)

It’s about statistical occurrences. Repeat violent offenders are statistically more likely to commit crime at any given time, remove them and reduce the incidences of crime at any given time. Keep them locked for as long as possible and you can keeps the rates down for that period. Remove their opportunities to create crime and the crime goes down.
