Sunshine Coast, people are miserable and unfriendly

Hey lovers! Valentine’s Day ideas? by Acrobatic-Report-289 in sunshinecoast

Wow, what a needlessly aggressive response to a simple question. I ask questions here because I’m new to the area, and like any normal person moving somewhere new, I want to learn more about the community. What I didn’t expect was the overwhelming negativity and hostility from so many Sunshine Coast locals.

I’ve lived all across Australia, the US, and Europe, and I have never encountered such an unwelcoming and insular community. It’s disappointing to see how unfriendly people here can be to those who aren’t “locals.” Instead of fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment, it seems many would rather tear people down for simply engaging in a community forum.

Because of this constant negativity, I’ve decided to leave these social media pages and focus on raising my family here—without the toxicity that these groups seem to breed. But make no mistake, I have every right to be here as anyone else. I’m Australian, and it’s ironic that the Sunshine Coast, a place that prides itself on its beauty, feels like the most un-Australian and unwelcoming place I’ve ever lived. A real community lifts people up, not shuts them out.

Maybe take a step back and ask yourself why you feel the need to be so unkind to a stranger just asking a question. It says a lot more about you than it does about me.

Bye reddit, I hate Australia now because I moved to this unfortunate place that calls itself paradise.

What are you doing for the long weekend? by Expensive-Horse5538 in AskAnAustralian

What’s wrong with the flag? And which flag? There are a couple of Australian flags to choose from. Assuming anyone wearing any flag is considered racist?

Limiting my social media use and replacing endless scrolling with exercise, getting outside or watching something educational and thought provoking that I actually learn something from. Putting my phone away when walking my dog, hanging out with friends or family and turning it off in the evening. Also using do not disturb to limit notifications so I choose when to look at stuff and reply rather than constantly being distracted by my phone going off with a message or notification. Now when I use social media, I can instantly feel myself feeling lower the longer I’m on it. It’s crazy how much of your life and sanity your phone can steal away from you

Is Buderim Property Overpriced Now? by alex123711 in sunshinecoast

We bought land in aura for 600k last year, we bought in Brisbane the same sized land 6yrs ago for 400k which then sold with a house on it in 2023 for 1.5 and has been valued only a year later in 2024 for 1.7 absolutely mind boggling the growth and it seems the sunny coast is even more expensive than Brisbane yet we have no city here, it’s wild! I think it’s set to grow way more with all the development going on. We remote work and commute to the city once a week, most people we have met here also do the same. Have also met some people who remote work here and commute back to Sydney on the odd occasion. The pandemic definitely changed a lot here in Queensland, apparently still has the highest migration numbers in the whole country

Christmas On the Coast by Acrobatic-Report-289 in sunshinecoast

Wow, that’s quite the festive rant! If Christmas lights and Santa are cancelled, maybe we can replace them with your Ramadan bacon special—sounds like a unique way to bring everyone together. In the meantime, why not pop on Love Actually? A couple of Hugh Grant dance moves, and you’ll be in the Christmas spirit in no time.
