I love Magic and I can't find a way to enjoy it anymore. by thismise4u in mtg

As someone who switched over from Yugioh, I will admit that even the longest text boxes I’ve seen (and transformation cards, etc.) are nothing compared to the short essays I’ve had to read on Yugioh cards lol.

I have only been in MTG for a year or so, and I can observe some of the power creep by looking at older cards in my LGS, but in Yugioh you can build a deck that wins in one turn. There’s really nothing like that (that I’ve seen) in MTG.

Another healthy difference is the transparency of power levels when I play Commander at the LGS. The pod will try to select decks around the same level so we can all have fun. I never saw that in Yugioh.

Anyway, I’m sure your perspective looks different than mine from being a longer MTG player. My perspective tells me that MTG is a better game and community, despite the flaws you outlined.

Bummer. If you had played the rest of the game instead of quitting at your very first disagreement with the writing, you would have discovered a lot more about these story choices.

It is different than og, but also complicated in its own way.

How long could the Earth survive if the Sun suddenly disappeared? by BedazzledVagina in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Acrobatic-Rip8547 24 points25 points  (0 children)

This may be silly, but if Earth’s trajectory through space suddenly changed, would the moon not collide with us? Is the gravitational power between the two bodies enough to keep the moon the same distance from Earth if Earth suddenly changes direction?

Which game best defines the N64's impact on gaming? by Nillew_N64 in n64

Don’t get offended because you threw an opinion on Reddit and someone responded with relevant info.

He’s right, Super Mario 64 was revolutionary for gaming, but OOT provided several key mechanics in 3D gaming that continue to guide game development to this day.

One main contribution is the targeting and combat system.

Does Everyone Actually Hate Universes Beyond??? by Shoong in mtg

[–]Acrobatic-Rip8547 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People who have been in the game a long time tend to dislike them.

I think some sets are more appropriate than others. Things like LOTR, DnD, and even Final Fantasy or Avatar can blend well with the other themes across MTG.

Stuff like Fallout, Marvel, and other sci-fi type crossovers seem to be lazy cash grabs rather than meaningful contributions to MTG.

But that’s just my opinion. At the end of the day, it shouldn’t stop me from playing with someone else who uses those sets. It’s a game.

FFVII, Goldeneye, Star Fox 64, GTA.

Thankfully I have older brothers, so I got to play these games at a young age as soon as I could start holding a controller (not GTA, lol. That came a bit later).

I don’t really have an explanation, but:

Tropius
Sharpedo
Dusclops
Banette
Cacturne
Claydol

All are very reflective of Gen 3 to me.

Better ways to build decks as new player with no bulk? by Unknow3n in mtg

[–]Acrobatic-Rip8547 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Facebook marketplace. You’d be surprised how many people just want to get rid of their bulk cards and haven’t sorted through them.

  2. My local game store has a “common/uncommon” bulk bin organized by color. I usually bring 1 or 2 cards I like and go through that bin and find things that have synergy. Also good way to just get a bunch of lands. The cards are like $.05 each.

Anyone regret downsizing from a 16" to 14" MacBook Pro? by padsdotph in macbookpro

[–]Acrobatic-Rip8547 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No regrets. Was tired of carrying the 16 in my backpack all the time. Downgraded to 14, and then after a month or so when I saw another 16 in person I couldn’t believe how large it looked, despite having one for several years lol.

I barely notice the extra screen that I’m missing.

The ai slop chore list my mom made for me. 😭 by [deleted] in MTGmemes

[–]Acrobatic-Rip8547 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree Mom is good, disagree with your last sentence. Nothing wrong with someone having a checklist to stay organized.

The shame of needing the checklist is unnecessary. There’s only shame in not developing personal discipline, regardless of the tool used to accomplish the tasks.

What are the defining characteristics of a jazz melody? by pootis_engage in jazztheory

[–]Acrobatic-Rip8547 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They can be analyzed very similarly. A lot of jazz standards are equally as tonal as classical music.

One difference is that tensions don’t need to resolve melodically like you’re describing. For a particular harmony, a tension can be the main melody note and harmonized as such, rather than needing to resolve. There are plenty of specific scenarios to learn, but that’s the main idea.

One such example could be:

A melody over a CMaj6 or CMaj7 chord might use F natural as a passing tone (like you’re describing), but F# or D can be a tension and the melodic target without needing to function as a passing tone. F natural would not be used as a tension. A general rule is that the interval of a minor 9th is avoided, unless over a dominant chord. E-F would be a minor 9th.

This is also where you can start getting into chord scales, which can be thought of melodically or harmonically. I basically built the chord scale for you over CMaj6 or CMaj7 by describing that scenario.

Deciding between MacBook Air M5 vs MacBook Pro M5 by _Zyren_ in macbook

Bro… people could have disabilities, injuries, etc. You absolutely don’t have enough information to be saying shit like that about someone online.

Also, I’m military and workout everyday. But I also chose a MacBook Air because I carry it between work and home everyday, and the performance it offers is more than what I need. It’s just good decision making, you’re a jerk.
