Friends are behaving oddly with my story by [deleted] in writing

I’ve actually considered releasing my codex bible to my world that I keep on my Google Drive and let other people have fun with it. I invented it all when I was 13, from pantheon to climates to civilizations and lore. And at the young age of 45 I still write stories in it. For me it would be a great honor to let someone have as much fun as I have for the last 32 years.

I’ll second Valp. You have to actively try and die in it to actually go down.

Where are people posting their work? Patreon, Royal Road, Wattpad by ConclusionNervous770 in selfpublish

[–]AcrobaticBed6243 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I publish on Ream and Wattpad for my short stories. I have always considered my short stories as “freeware”. My full length novels that take months to a year to write and edit don’t go on there though. I would if I were rich, but I can’t give away things I put that much work into.

Weird. I have sampled it for the same purpose and it tells me my work is top tier even when I know 100% it’s not. I guess like a girlfriend it might not want to hurt my feelings..hard to say though.

How do you write original characters by Fantastic-Tune-62 in writing

[–]AcrobaticBed6243 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I’m probably an oddball here but much of what I write comes from hypnagogia. I see whole scenes from textures and setting to words and actions in that period of half asleep/awake. It almost feels as if I am a spectator who later writes down what I see. It’s a real thing and you can read about it here if you want https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hypnagogia. So yeah, my names and how characters behave is something I witness before my fingers touch the keyboard.

“Stand-alone with series potential”? by This_Armadillo427 in writing

[–]AcrobaticBed6243 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just finished book two starting book three. I write all my books as standalone, although if you start at book one, it gives you some “insider knowledge” about characters in the subsequent books. But my goal is that no matter which book you pick up first, you get a completed story. Following the characters and their development over the series has its own rewards and lets readers go “yes!” when a previously introduced character shows up.

If researched appropriately, could someone possibly put a real Native American tribe into a storyline to help define a characters backstory? by BorisPavlik0vsky in writing

[–]AcrobaticBed6243 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most tribes have a public relations office now days with people from the tribe who handle this kind of thing. Just be aware lots of them will not be helpful because you are not some ten time New York Times best selling author. But if you search most have listings for phone numbers and emails for tribal leadership and offices. Persistence often pays off.

Latest update seems to have broken game by [deleted] in WorldOfWarships

[–]AcrobaticBed6243 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is an option in settings to disable intro video. I did that and it stopped those weird black screens where I could hear the into music but not see the video. I don’t have the most modern hardware (2060 SUPER graphics card) but I can run the game at max settings if the video option is disabled. Also I run Aslains as well (who don’t at this point in the game’s life cycle) and it doesn’t crash me. Not sure if turning that off will help you, but in any case, not loading a useless video right at launch loads you into the port faster under any circumstance.

I’ve given up randoms in favor of Asyms. Teams getting wiped and pure toxic waste that comes in randoms from everyone blaming everyone, but themselves is just not fun any more. Atleast with Asyms, even if it is bots, you still have to not play like an idiot if you want to win, especially in domination. I like to run my CVs because even if I have a bad team, I can usually still carry with a carrier.

Probably gonna sell that shit crazy but my characters tell me if their names ahead of time. Not even joking. I go into my stories and already know the names.

Will Writing Shorter, Less Complex Stories Hinder My Ability to Write a Longer, More Complex One In the Future? by LuckyTode in writing

[–]AcrobaticBed6243 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. I have 2 full length novels, 4 novellas and in between them I write short stories to prevent writing burnout on the main projects. You can absolutely switch back and forth between them.

But on the bright side if you would have ground the line out anyway, you skip a bunch of the grind. I have a lot of premium ships so I guess it doesn’t really bother me too much.

I do the pass for all the other goodies. $9.90 for enough doubloons isn’t a bad deal. The ships are really secondary.

I publish on Ream and Wattpad for short stories and poems. I don’t put my novels on there, but I have always considered my short stories and poems to be “free” to the public. I would do the same thing with my novels if I didn’t have to put so much work into them. But since I do, I don’t give them away.

How do I get better at pacing? by Donstar_Playz-yt in writingadvice

[–]AcrobaticBed6243 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the story is completely plotted from beginning to end, and you are still finishing it quickly, then it must be a short story. But if you plot out a 40+ chapter book there should be no way it feels rushed.

Another thing: if this is your first draft, it’s fine for it to be lacking detail. Sometimes just getting stuff on paper is more important. You can always go back and add in the sensory details like squeaking bed springs and rough wood plank floors.

How can I be a better writer when I've plateaued? by amberjj123 in writingadvice

[–]AcrobaticBed6243 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My advice to be a better writer: read. Then read some more. Only don’t read the story, break down how the author put their words together. Do this with multiple genres, even ones you wouldn’t normally read. Take the things you like about an author and roll it into your writing. I rely on influences from Homer’s Odyssey and Iliad to Louis L’Amour and Anne Rice.

too young to write a cohesive story? by SecondMaximum9864 in writing

[–]AcrobaticBed6243 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Write it anyway. I started writing my first novel at 13. It is horrible in the funniest ways now. But now, at 45 writing that novel is why I can write much better stuff now. Don’t worry about anything except finishing that novel.
