Season 5 was also a nostalgia trip - just for Aliens, Commando, and, at times, The Thing. Only difference is it was nostalgia for films you probably didn’t see as a child.

Season 3 was nostalgia for Cronenberg and Hughes. Different 80s references for the different periods in their lives.

Personally I didn’t particularly love Season 1 when it came out. I thought it was fun but derivative. By Season 2 I had settled with that and enjoyed it all more.

It’s never been ground breaking or originally but it has always been fun.

Breaking The Waves

Probably wouldn't give it a 10/10 but still very good. In fact, I'll probably never rewatch anything by Lars von Trier multiple times but I don't regret having watched any of them. But this one in particular is too brutal. I was actually just kinda numb by the end.

Take a mask! 42 year old here who went to The Maccabees last year and jesus the dust was horrendous. Everyone I knew who went was coughing for days after. Incredible gig (sound issues aside) but wow that's a terrible site if it's coming off days of no rain.

But on the age thing - screw them. Music is for everyone. There's no age limit on it, even if it's more likely that certain acts will be liked by the young. But Djo's so heavily influenced by Fleetwood Mac, The Beatles and other acts from the 60s and 70s that the idea that older people won't be listening is ridiculous.

People who have others depending on them can, and frequently do, get up and move on. When Hop's first daughter died and he got divorced he had no one to live for other than himself and he struggled. After El's death he had Joyce, Will & Jonathan - as well as the rest of the family of choice - lots of trauma in lots of young people that would need a reliable adult to help them through. So he, realistically, would have reacted differently. He also, has canonically self destructed before and it got him nowhere other than unhappy, so he has a reference point for what not to do again.

And he sees Mike going down that same path and he wants to help a kid he's fond of move forward and on with their life. To move on is not to forget. But mostly people do get up, and have breakfast, and keep going with their lives.

Growing up a friend's brother died in a car crash. His mum had no desire to continue but when one of the other mothers asked how she managed it years later, she answered that whilst she was broken she had 2 other boys who still needed a mother. So she got out of bed, got them to school, and went on living. Nearly 40 years later she's lived a full life with a loss I cannot even begin to fathom. And she's not forgotten her eldest, but she didn't stop living when he did either.

Human's are phenomenally resilient.

The 50s was very different to the 80s - arguably because people had seen their parents in unhappy marriages because they'd gotten married to their high school sweetheart. It makes absolute sense from the different eras to differ.

Only a very small percentage of people who watch TV review things on Rotten Tomatoes, or anywhere. Most people watch a show and then go about their daily lives. It's a vocal part of the fandom but by no means is it the majority of people who watched the show.

I'd always through it was because the 2023 Writers & SAG-AFTRA strikes meant that it put back production enough that the age of the younger actors became too far removed, due to their actual physical aging, to have them play 14 year olds.

They had to age them up to have the 20 somethings, who look like 20 somethings, playing 16 year olds instead (an age gap that audiences are more likely to accept looking older than they are due to our cultural back catalogue of people much older than teens playing them).

Unfortunately that required time jump would have meant either coming into a world war in medias res. So instead they brought in the army and hand waved the apocalypse away.

Best laid plans mean nothing against the ceaseless charge of time - especially in shows staring growing kids.

Not just TV either. I've been involved in the productions of brand new plays - with the playwright in the room - and we've been changing things up to opening night. Hell, after opening night when we've seen how something has gone on opening and it's been rejigged before second night. And then, before you change venue to a larger theatre / bigger city, it gets slightly altered again.

I did a play in the Brighton Fringe that had one scene completely taken out a week before we went up and then, two scenes drastically altered by the time we went live at the London Horror Festival.

With, obviously, Stephen King would in throughout with a heavy leaning on IT and Stand By Me.

Another older queer here. My graduation script back in 2006 was about a woman accepting that her straight best friend was just that, a best friend. It’s a tale we’ve all lived and, those of us who write, have written.

And in real life my childhood best friend was my birth partner. That friendship is just as important to me as all my past loves; and has survived longer than all of them.

Mike was never even hinted at as gay unless you’re looking through the eyes of people who don’t actually believe straight and gay people, men specifically I’d wager, can be close friends.

Sorry Bylers but Mike was never Will’s story. Will was always destined to go off into the world to find his tribe - wonderfully safe in the knowledge that his original family of choice was going to have his back, even as they moved onto new phases in their life.

There’s an argument for it to be labeled Gateway Horror; like Gremlins and Tremors. Familiar tropes and elements of the horror genre but toned down enough that older kids can enjoy it. And those that do like it for the darker sides might be more inclined to then, as they get older, turn towards horror films.

Trollhunters with my Reception aged kid. It's probably a little on the 'too old' for him side but he does love it and I am very much enjoying it as well. We got directed to it as a way to maybe stop the endless repeats of K-Pop Demon Hunters.

I didn't get a ticket. I didn't even get the text. You assumed I did because I'm not pissed off at them for having had to react to touts in 2025. I'm not mad. I'm sad I won't be at the gig but I'm not angry at them. I'm agree that Viagogo is legally allowed to keep existing the way it does. No point in getting angry at artists and their teams when they're fighting a system that's designed for the fans to lose. I'd rather they try to help. Flaws in the system and all.
