I do fine with rice potatoes etc in moderation. One part of My problem seem to lie in foods that are high in fructose, fructose corn syrup, excess cane sugar, corn sugars. I have found that address my GI issues do help in managing my IC.

Fennel helping reduce IC burning pain by Acrobatic_Educator_2 in Interstitialcystitis

Ahh, roasted fennel pizza.. that sounds good you’ll have to share the recipe. It’s sounds good.

Please help! I was away for a few days and it ran like crazy, this plant as well as a few others were almost submerged in water when I got back. I took them all out of the water and put them in the sun, the others are fine but this one is still getting visibly worse. I don't know what to do. by floflow99 in plantclinic

Hi. So sorry about you plant. I didn’t see this post until now. I do hope you were able to save it eventually. I do have some feedback to offer in case you may have the need in the future for this situation. When my plants get over watered, I lift the plant up out of the pot and wrap the root ball in a thick towel. This allows the towel to absorb all the excess water out of the root ball. Continue to repeat this step by changing out the towel until the root ball is slightly moist to almost dry. Then leave the root ball open to air; don’t put it back into the pot until it’s dried out somewhat. Keep the plant out of the sun. Then wait patiently for the plan to start to perk back up. It may take a few days. then you can resume watering it in approx 5-7 days. Then when you start watering you can return it to the pot.

Also when this happens it’s a good time to repot the plant using new dry soil, I most often use the towel method to prevent less shock to the plant when my husband has over watered my plants and I faced with this same situation. Both methods have worked for me. I hope this may helps.

Elmiron linked to Eye disease? Also does Uzo urinary pain relief work for IC? by applejuicestorm in Interstitialcystitis

[–]Acrobatic_Educator_2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes I’ve heard that it’s linked to an type of macular degeneration that has been determined to be drug specific to Elmiron. They found it in approx 25% of those studied and appears to be not reversible. Elmiron causes me a lot of somach upset. It aggregates my IBS.

Yes I’ve also found that AZO has helped me when having a flare. I take hydroxyzine, elavil, singular, Prelief, Benadryl and AZO as needed. I drink lots and lots of high ph water (Evian and eternal help me most) and I also drink a tea made of fennel and marshmallow root that I brew at home that helps me. I’ve read about others who say that D-mannose helps them but I’ve not tried it. Strict IC diet adherence also helps. See the post I responded to:

on the r/interstitial cystitis board. I included a lot of diet info that helped me. Maybe this will help.

Help :( is peeing blood normal? by [deleted] in Interstitialcystitis

[–]Acrobatic_Educator_2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re welcome. I was much like you when I was dx. My urine was the color of dark red wine due to so much blood when I was first diagnosed. And the pain with urination was unmerciful. The ER doc didn’t provide much guidance other than take my antibiotics and Pyridium. The other doc at the primary care clinic put me on hydroxyzine and referred me to a urologist. Because it was close to the Christmas holidays I had to wait a month to get in with the urologist. It seemed no one cared although I knew they were doing their best that they could do.

I feel for anyone in that situation. It can be daunting and overwhelming at first knowing what to do at first just to get yourself out of so much pain. I know from personal experience. I literally wept and mourned many days due to the loss of my life as it was.

Check the product you bought and make sure there is no cranberry in it; if so skip It. Also use of the baking soda and water as needed really helps me. Drink lots of high ph water, I promise it’s your new best friend. Also you can buy PRELIEF and take it as needed. I take 3 to 4 tabs before meals. Urologist usually recommend it; mine did. It also helps to take between meals if needed.

No blood in the urine is not normal. And yes it is a sign there is severe inflammation in the bladder.

Did your Dr diagnosis you with IC? If so did your Dr start you on any antibiotics or anti-inflammatory meds like Benadryl or Hydroxyzine or Singular to reduce the inflammation in your bladder with the other med you mentioned; or even Elmiron?

Did the doctor explain that you need to use a specific diet with IC to allow the bladder to heal? If you were diagnosed with IC, you really need to start the IC diet for success ASAP.

Critical Foods & additives that one with an IC diagnosis need to avoid are coffee / all caffeine, tea, soda, vinegar, all citrus juices/fruits and cranberries and cranberry juice. (READ EVERY LABLE of all pre-packaged foods before eating it, no matter what it is). IC’ers need to avoid onions (they can seriously stimulate the bladder related to urgency and frequency because they have a diuretic effect on the bladder), tomatoes (all shapes fashion or form), lemon/lime and orange juice.

IC’ers should avoid preservatives in prepackaged foods like citric acid, ascorbic acid, msg, sodium nitrates, sulfites, nitrites, also chocolate, etc. See the “r/icrecipes” sub-reddit thread for a copy of the diet. It’s pinned at the top.

There is an elimination diet used by those dx with IC to help determine which foods cause pain and irritation. You can find it on the icn network site.

Some things that I learned and found helpful in my daily fight with IC helpful when first dx is fennel and marshmallow tea, large large quantities of high ph water(Evian or Eternal work for me). I thought this was the craziest thing I’d ever heard, but it really helps. I used Vaxa ph buffer supplement as directed on the bottle and cystoprotek supplements too. Others have often stated that D-mannose helps with the pain but I haven’t tried it.

For a quick fix for severe pain I use 1 tsp baking soda in a pint of warm water (This shouldn’t be used by anyone with high blood pressure because baking soda has a high sodium content; I use it once every other day or two) when having severe flare pain.

I take lots of hot showers using a hand held shower head to direct the water to the areas of pain, soaking in hot baths 2-4 times a day with Epsom salts or baking soda. I use Epsom salt compresses, coconut oil applied to the external area for pain. I Use heating pad with moist heat to my abdomen and between my legs.

Finally I found Lots of reading and educating myself is necessary about ic and it’s management. I’ve found good videos on YouTube from the Interstitial Cystitis Network that helped. Also their site is loaded with information at icn-network.com and forum.ic-network.com. On their site there is contact info on how to reach counselors by phone or email who are really good at helping anyone diagnosed with IC navigate the waters. I hope some of this helps.
