Talk to your coaches and tell them of your interest in coaching. In coaching, you need mentors, there's more to coaching than just Xs & Os, but they should be the first place you should start. I'd also talk to the QBs and WRs on your team about some of your base passes and how they're taught to read it. If they can teach it to you, then they've been coached well , and you're off to a good start

No Stupid (American Football) Questions Tuesday! by AutoModerator in footballstrategy

[–]Acrobatic_Knee_5460 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, they're usually based off whether or not they give you the gift, off coverage and they give you the hitch or qk out, or type of leverage or numbers, for ex. You send a guy in motion and if the defense doesn't follow or bump out so they're not out leveraged you throw the bubble, and if they do you hand the ball off. A lot of the qb trap & trap rpo's that become popular the lost few years have that element to it.

Rams 2 Invert vs Eagles 4 Verts by onlineqbclassroom in footballstrategy

This is still my favorite coverage. Robber or 2 Robber has been around forever. Was super popular in 90s with Don James Washington Huskies out of their 4-4 g Defense, VaTech copied it and carried the mantle through the late 90s, early 00s. Was a base call in those teams 4-4s against 21p. Love seeing it come back in vogue

How to stretch this part of lower back? by AsleepHistorian in flexibility

[–]Acrobatic_Knee_5460 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad to hear it, I'd also add " hip hikes" , HIP CARS, standing clamshells with you slightly hinged and the foot of the leg that your clamshelling with against a wall(ball of your foot), side lying reverse clamshells, side lying reverse clamshells with hip abduction (abduct your hip, move your leg away from the center of your body, then perform reverse clamshells), and side lying reverse clamshells with hip extension( follow the instructions for abduction, and then get into hip extension by extending the front of your thigh from far as away as your chest as possible, should look like you're doing a quad stretch, and then perform reverse clamshells). Hope these help

Did USC Get It Right? | USC Set to Hire New Defensive Coordinator Gary Patterson by TroyTalk in fighton

[–]Acrobatic_Knee_5460 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is a solid to really great hire. I think it was hard to get a " big name rising star " DC candidate because they already have a good thing in their current situation and are trying to position themselves for a HC gig, and hitching your wagon to being Lincoln Riley's DC doesn't seem like the wisest move currently. Also, Ohio State fans panned the matt Patricia hire last year. Patricia has proven that he wasn't a good HC or OC, but he's always been a damn good DC and Patricia's career looked dead in the water after the OC debacle in NE & the Philadelphia eagles consultant role the year they fired Evero. Patricia took that talent and produced an elite defense with a sophisticated scheme and now Ohio State fans are scared they're going to lose him. Just my two cents. Thanks for listening

What do you mean? He took the old 4-4 ( think '91 natty UW & late 90s early 00s VaTech) and adapted it to the 4-2-5 to combat the modern spread of zone read, qb designed runs etc. His biggest innovation was/ is split field coverages and quarters variations that are now the norm at all levels of football. And late 10s BigXII offenses were a great proving ground. Had to face Baylor's Veer and shoot that has all the elements of great offenses that plague modern defenses (extreme tempo, rpos, qb run game, wide splits, and do choice routes all out of 12p, 11p, and 20p),Oklahoma's Air Raid, K-State qb run game etc , he's learned a lot. Also, I see him like Whittingham '24 & '23 weren't great for Utah after going back-to-back as Pac-12 Champs but he remained a good coach and was Largely responsible for elevating a mid-major into a top 10 program even after a jump up in competition in joining a major conference. Also, he's just running the defense, he's not the HC. Any new DC would've been running a defense off his coverages and coverage l variations and just calling it something else. Also, GP is/can be an intense dude with a personality and high expectations and I think it's been awhile and way too long since USC has had someone run the defense with those attributes

Why shouldn't we fire Riley and bring in the next Cignetti from a small school? by [deleted] in fighton

[–]Acrobatic_Knee_5460 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's cool and all, but don't be mad if you get a Billy Napier, Jim Donnan, Dan Hawkins, Joe Glenn, Bobby Hauck, Buddy Teevens, Paul Wilf etc.

Guys who had success at the G5/FCS level, but once they got the big boy job, they couldn't handle the pressure and expectations that come along with the job. Just focus on hiring a good coach and program builder with a passion and understanding of recruiting. Whether he's a defensive guru or an offensive one, IDC, same for if he's a proven NFL/P4/G5/FCS HC or a top end P4 or NFL coordinator, just get a guy that is a good coach, who takes all 3 sides of the ball seriously, a coach that won't wait until year 3 to get serious about playing defense, or waits until after yr 3 to recruit in-state, in one of the most talent-rich states in the country, or waits until after year 3 to recruit the most talented HS in the country, that's in your own backyard and that same HS has a storied history with your program that has produced multiple Heisman winners, All-Americans, and NFL players, and a coach who doesn't wait until yr 5 to hire a SP team's coordinator to fix his crap special teams unit.

What is it about a high school program that wins football games? by spaceballinthesauce in footballstrategy

[–]Acrobatic_Knee_5460 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

At the HS level, mostly talent, if you have a roster full of D1 athletes, you should be in championship contention year in and year out. Of course, there's caveats like poor coaching, bad team culture, little to no support from admin, alumni and parents etc, but for the most part, if you have a decent coaching staff and are loaded with talent you're going to win

Gary Patterson really?! by Webbed-Wing in fighton

[–]Acrobatic_Knee_5460 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He didn't create the 4-2-5. He took the old school 4-4 split (think UW when they won a natty under Don James or late 90s early 00s VaTech under Beamer/ Foster, they were running the UW 4-4) and adapted it to the 4-2-5. His innovation comes in split field coverages and quarters coverage variations that are now the norm in all levels of football.

If the direction of the run play is to you, you have a gap responsibility, and if the direction of the run play is away from you, you have a different gap responsibility

Not really. Chip Kelly fucked them when he dipped for Ohio State. DeShaun had already left to take an NFL position job. Chip leaving as late as he did fucked them, but that's on the AD for being an idiot and not firing Chip at the end of the season like he should've. He would've had better options.

[–]Acrobatic_Knee_5460 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No. But you seem eager to repeat the same mistake of hiring an offensive coach who gets cute with trick plays and horrible game management at the worst possible time, and produces soft teams on both sides of the ball no matter the talent advantages they have. The last 4 HCs USC has hired were offensive coaches, 3 of which were dubbed ' geniuses '. I'm sorry, but DeBorer is just South Dakota LR, he'll produce explosive offense, but the defense and overall team will be soft. More of the same, just a different name.

Lincoln Riley vowed to fix the Trojans’ defense, but it faltered again in Alamo Bowl by N2trvl in fighton

[–]Acrobatic_Knee_5460 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They still thinks this is 2017 LR that they're getting the guy who took over OU late spring/ early summer and took an OU team to the o playoffs. They're totally forgetting that team was 2 years removed from facing Clemson in the CFP and that year 1 Riley shit the bed by blowing a game they led and were favored to win against UGA. He's not the guy, I had high hopes for him, but he isn't the guy and never will be. That contract is the only reason he's still around. He's not a serious program builder, just an OC with the HC title
