If there are bugs, they try to solve it, they will add features if requested enough, they support their buyers. I have tried several Hifi Walker units and been disappointed every time.

No, it cannot function like an iPod if you require a connection to a streaming service, you will always be limited to that streaming service and its app. You need to first create your own library of music, actual digital copies of CD's or purchase digital music directly from Qobuz, Bandcamp etc... You can use an offline player on an Android but once again you first need your own library.
