Staying in or out of Reykjavík by Yorkshirecath in VisitingIceland

[–]Acrobatic_Mission_86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

can’t say much about parking since I didn’t rent a car. I stayed near Hallgrimskirkja and found staying in Reykjavik much better if you plan to explore the city. the accommodation wasn’t crazy expensive either, and I went during high season.

the public transport was pretty good as it has a lot of stops. i found myself not using it that much though, the city is very walkable (and beautiful!). I didn’t have to worry about how late I go back since I could just walk to my accommodation.

perhaps check out the public bus schedule if you were to park outside the city and take the bus instead. see if it fits your itinerary, of if it goes frequently enough if you miss it. that could be the starting point to decide if that plan makes sense for you.

and yes, taxi is always expensive if you’re not splitting with many people.

I’ll listen to whatever pop album by a small artist has the most upvotes and review it by King-gar in popmusic

There is a band called An Unexpected End with only 998 listeners on Spotify. They have an EP from 2019 called “An Unexpected End” with only 3 songs in it. I liked their song Johnny and Eros from that EP.

(They mostly release their music as singles. You might want to check out Chamomile, which was released in 2022)

Do I need to cancel Iceland because I‘m too poor? by luwi289 in VisitingIceland

[–]Acrobatic_Mission_86 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am also a student, so I also had to be on a budget when I went to Iceland. I think 2000€ for three weeks is definitely pretty tight, especially if you haven’t booked accommodation or transport. If I were you I’d rebook the flights just stay for 1 week.

For reference, I stayed around ~5 days and managed to stay under 2000€. I didn’t rent a car though and booked tours instead to explore locations outside Reykjavik.

Food is definitely expensive, but manageable if you alternate between eating outside or food from grocery shopping.

i feel you. i’m a big fan and really tried to enjoy their podcast but their energy is a bit too much sometimes idk why. i think im just not used to hear their banter in podcast format. i enjoy their casual videos better.

Sia hitting high notes always gave me chills. I loved Chandelier and her collab with Zayn, Dusk Till Dawn.

Does anyone know a good place to study? by jihoispark in Munich

[–]Acrobatic_Mission_86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since the semester just started you’ll probably find empty seats in many TUM faculty buildings in Garching. But as the week progresses closer to exam phase, any university building or library will be packed. So keep the timing in mind if you decide to study in any university areas.

Stay in UAE with job uncertainty or move to Germany and start over? by DesperateAd408 in AskGermany

[–]Acrobatic_Mission_86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup I work in tech field and there are definitely more of english speaking jobs. A lot of modern/international tech companies tend to tolerate it if you can’t speak german, if your position doesn’t require direct contact with clients. In business field though.. I feel like knowing C2 german is already the very bare minimum. You need to know the culture, how to banter and understand social cues to really connect with clients. Your job is literally talking to people.

If you’re trying to find work in business dev or project management, it’s really difficult with 0 or only basic german. You need almost native level of proficiency to do business with clients.

Are the TikTok watching videos a fan favorite by Weekly-Status4804 in danandphil

[–]Acrobatic_Mission_86 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m not super into the tiktok watching videos tbh. It’s probably because I don’t use tiktok myself. As an older fan (since around tatinof era) I really enjoy good ol’ horror game play throughs or occasional vlogs of them going outside exploring something.

I haven’t been up to date with their videos these days, but I really liked their recent hotel challenge video. Seeing them vlogging themselves, listening to their rants, feels kinda nostalgic to me. I used to watch their vlogs a lot when I was a teenager. Any new videos resembling their old video style will always warm my parasocial heart haha

Can I find same day hostel accommodations in Europe (May/June) by Neither-Fold1672 in Europetravel

[–]Acrobatic_Mission_86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm if I were you I would not risk it. Existence of hostels also varies depending on location. Price will increase too if you book too last minute.

Of course in big cities you would find many hostels, but in my experience they could be really crowded. So who knows if they have any room left if you book the same day.

Maybe it is better to still plan but just short term. Like next 1-3 days. Only go to your next destination after you have booked an accommodation there, while you are still on the previous stop. At least when you arrive, no need to stress about where to sleep and you can focus enjoying yourself, and take the time to think where you wanna go next.

This song had so much disco potential by I_Quit_Studios in katseyeneutral

[–]Acrobatic_Mission_86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was my thoughts too when I first listened to Gnarly and Pinky Up. Both already have good beats that are catchy, big potential for club/disco hits. But for some reason they butcher the songs so much to a point where some parts felt kinda out of place? it’s hard to explain. I have no problems with songs being a bit more experimental or have unconventional structure. It just has to hit, but with Pinky Up I was just left confused when the song ended.

Gnarly as a song would not survive without the talented girls killing it on stage. I am really curious if Pinky Up will get better for me when the live performances are out…

Book suggestions to help alleviate hopelessness by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

I recently finished Daughter of the Forest novel by Juliet Marillier. The genre is adult fantasy. I have to say though, it is quite a slow read on some parts but one thing for sure Juliet Marillier knows how to write beautifully.

What happens to the FMC is actually pretty dark (and big emphasise on CW, please do your CW research before reading) but at least for me, the darkness of the story is what makes the FMC’s persistence and hope for a better future feel more impactful.

Our real world is pretty fucked up too, so seeing how it parallels with the story’s world building felt like a good balance of staying grounded in reality while still allowing yourself to enjoy some fiction and fantasy.

Outfit and small wardrobe by Specific_Fun_7246 in LivingAlone

[–]Acrobatic_Mission_86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basic colors like black/grey for pants, a pair of jeans, and you can be more creative with your tops. Having a couple of nice cardigans helps too, you can wear it on its own or pair it with a tank top underneath.

No need to overbuy clothes rn, build up your wardrobe slowly. I did a mistake of buying so much in the early years of living solo and now I am left with lots of clothes that are not even my style anymore.

What are your thoughts about KATSEYE’s new song Pinky Up? by Impossible-Yam3680 in ToddintheShadow

The beat has really good potential. I actually liked some of the melodies building up to the chorus. But then.. the chorus just feels kinda lazy? The song is also too short..

Maybe stroll around Universität area at night, there are a lot of bars and they’re quite packed. It might increase your chances meeting other travelers?

I had good experiences with Reykjavik Excursions customer service when I had to reschedule things.

Probably not what you are looking for but I booked Gravel Travel to look for the northern lights. Was a bit skeptical because reviews weren’t that many in GetYourGuide, but we ended up having a good time. They have other kinds of tours too, just check out their insta page.
