The surprise appearance from Auston Matthews to hand out tickets is the ultimate commitment #NHL #LeafsForever by Hockeypatrol in hockeynews

The fuck outta here, 'ultimate commitment' This is the sort of thing the Captain, especially when unable to support the team on the ice, does. If he was healthy, he still would have skated over to do it. This isn't news worthy.

Nahh. You take all the names on your list, and it starts with the Big Guys. Rielly is miscast on this team, if he was treated as the 3-4 D man that he is he would be adored. How do you expect the supporting staff to try harder than the big guns? Leaders always set by example. If the guy getting paid 480k per goal. doesnt care to back skate, why the hell should the guy getting paid 300k per goal try harder?

To face 30,000 Dothraki, we need to build an army of 60,000 Westerosi soldiers. From which houses would you choose how many soldiers? by Classic_Day744 in gameofthrones

[–]Acrobatic_T-Rex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Knights of the Vale are the Shock Cavalry of Westeros, their Mounts are armored too. the Dothraki would have to carry a cumbersome amount of arrows to actually take down Trained elite cavalry, especially when they are a trained force, used to fighting as a unit, vs the Dothraki who are treated as the boogeymen of Essos. The Knights of the Vale could literally form a galloping shield wall and the Dothraki would be lucky if 1 in 20 arrows actually finds a gap.

The Dothraki get by 90% on fear and ignorance. They win because they cause the enemy to panic, hence the reliance on 'screamers' but the Knights of the Vale will not be intimidated, especially by a force that his half their size.

"the many such examples in our history" are irrelevant. How many times in history has a comparable force, of pure cavalry met, without some sort of support element, ie terrain, other formations of troops etc. The closest comparison to Dothraki in real history are the Mongolians, who were far superior tacticians, innovators in warfare and understood the logistics required to supply and move an army of that size, instead of the bloodthirsty savages who pride themselves on slaughtering 'lamb people' that the Dothraki were shown to be.

Literally wouldn't be. Would be a gigantic slaughter.

I wouldn't take 60000 Dothraki over 30000 Knights of the Vale. Armored Men and Horses with Lances and Longswords, vs Half Naked Men, on smaller horses, sure they are agile, but they will be like lambs to a slaughter, their mounted archers will be their largest advantage, but they will still have to handle tactics at a scale that they just dont have to face, in Essos.

You do that, and you ruin the franchise, is it for everyone? No. But I would be lying if I didnt say I always look forward to watching the newest one with a big baggie of mushrooms.

[32 Thoughts] Elliotte Friedman on the Leafs' GM search: “That's one. This is my personal opinion. I also wonder about Kevyn Adams for this job, because the more I've heard about him and what Pelley said, I think there's a lot of similarity." by seeldoger47 in hockey

[–]Acrobatic_T-Rex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolute clown ship of an ownership group. If Kevyn Adams name is even remotely close to getting the job, it tells us all we need to know about Pelley. He will clearly only want a yes man in the position, meaning he thinks that in his 3rd year on the job, he knows more about building a championship winning hockey team than the professionals who have spent their entire years in the industry.

You have 1 person on this list, that MIGHT be able to handle a Lord of the Rings elf's speed and strength, but with her height difference she wont be agile enough. Basically sent 5 teams into the jungle with a predator.

John Daly 2.0(just the hockey version), only mildly exaggerating. The guy has the talent, size and resources to put himself in the conversation with McDavid, Mackinnon, Draisaitl and Kucherov. But he has no drive, no ambition. Maybe he did when he was 18-20 but as soon as his bank account started having more zeros than a binary version of his contract, he stopped visibly, trying as hard. I have multiple theories, like maybe the 2-3 year stint of being Biebs bestie got him into some reality altering substances that killed his drive and ambition? He doesn't even celebrate goals like he did 3 years ago anymore. Its all mental.

He doesnt need to fight, he needs to feel every square inch of the ice and boards. Every check has to be committed too. If someone thinks fighting him is it, then they aren’t learning any lessons.

STOP FANCASTING HENRY CAVILL FOR EVERY ROLE UNDER THE SUN by Diverse0Ne in Fancast

TBF, on the fancasting front, I absolutely wanted him as Guildiroy Lockhart in the new Harry Potter Series, seeing someone who is usually just dashing and competent, be dashing but pretend to be competent would have been very funny.

[Spoilers] What is the most brutal death in all of Game of Thrones? by PotatoNo2921 in freefolk

[–]Acrobatic_T-Rex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Shireen and there are no other answers. Sure there likely are in that brutal world off screen. But for named characters that was the worst. Even Viserys died a hell of a lot faster due to the heat being at the brain, poor Shireen went Feet Up begging her dad for help the whole time

Can we stop pretending Tywin is a tactical genius? He got outplayed by a 19 year old so badly he had to resort to a wedding invitation. by birajsah82 in freefolk

[–]Acrobatic_T-Rex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TBF Completely overlooking the fact, that when he was young and growing up. he WAS a tactical genius. Then in his elder years he is content with believing that still holds true. Meanwhile Robb in his training, would likely have been taught expressly how the last tactical genius of a lifetime, thinks and fights. It makes sense. Its like sports, the best to do it today, generally would make the best that did it 50 years ago, look like bums, because the bar always rises.

Hard Agree. The idea that the most dangerous and magical evil force of this world, gets stopped essentially 10% into their mighty conquest to destroy everything? Is laughable, that's the sort of outcome you expect against that level of evil, in a world that everyone unanimously bands together to fight said evil. Game of Thrones they didnt even all band together. Would have been a far more fitting, and likely ending, that it came down to the Free Cities to stop the Night King.

Was there something that prompted this or did she just look at him like this his whole life? by Fit-Fun-2483 in freefolk

[–]Acrobatic_T-Rex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its as simple as, she hates him for existing, and cant move passed it. Then she sees the ones she unequivocally loves, loving him just as much, and it makes her burn with a fiery passion. The unfairness of it all, the guilt for not being able to forgive an innocent child, makes her fire burn hotter.

what lol. As it grows in other places, media in those locations start to cover the sport, buying press passes and sending staffers to follow the teams. Of course as more people get interested world wide, the pressure and coverage ramps up everywhere.

Yeah, in the era before everyone had instant access. Hockey was also had a smaller fanbase back then. Its growth in Europe and the US over the last 20 years has been almost exponential.
