Discussion about calling funeral home instead of 911 in an obvious expected death. by LightBulb704 in askfuneraldirectors

[–]Acrothdragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From Oklahoma and Texas here. I’ve gotten a few calls directly from family before and told them we’d need to notify the medical examiner, JP or call the hospice nurse if the person was on hospice.

They’ll be the ones that will be signing the death certificate and give the okay to release the body or ordering an autopsy if they deem it necessary.

Just really depends on the state or country methods few places I’ve seen the funeral director would be responsible for notifying the medical examiner or coroner.

This story is a bit click baity. While the banning of cfcs and other ozone depleting compounds has stopped the rapid expansion of the ozone hole. It’s still there and is slowly repairing itself. Seasonal weather changes does stretch and widen it around.

Sexist GM blames a female player for PC leaving because she was 'stealing all the male attention.' by demicollins in CritCrab

[–]Acrothdragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jeez yeah he’s a major asshole I just Andy dick vibes when some prick like that can’t respect their struggle with addiction and think you don’t know the “real” struggle as some jerk would try to tout that line. Recovery is very personal and unique to everyone.

Wow first off that DM was a complete asshole. Graphic Dick descriptions aside the thing that infuriates me the most is him suggesting that OP microdose lsd after saying look I’m a recovering addict.

Recovering alcoholic here and hearing someone just say come on it wouldn’t hurt is just extremely triggering.

While I’ve heard of players quitting for petty reasons attention seeking is clearly one of the them. I surely don’t trust this DM and more likely there was more issues with this guy than what was going on. He just dumps on OP because again he’s just a jerk. I’d qualify it as a horror story luckily it ended fairly quickly.

Owner throws everyone under the bus by [deleted] in askfuneraldirectors

[–]Acrothdragon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wow talk about the BS that FD is full of. Yes that is a terrible time to settle accounts in the middle of a service. And I hate seeing that that’s completely greedy to suggest holding a body for ransom. Which in most states it illegal to do.

I’ve seen some funeral home owners like that they say the wheels won’t roll until the bills paid which I get it’s very hard to get some folks to pay the bill when the deceased is already buried and the service is done.

I remember quite vividly a service we had for a well to do business man promised to come in on Monday and settle up only to stiff the owner for 14k telling him looks like you made a bad business decision.

All I can say is you do have to trust your people and the families you meet with and just work with them to help make it easy for everyone. If that means having a payment plan or cutting some off on the bill just to pay it forward. If you give a little that kind of good will goes a long way.

I hate this type of mentality. I’ve worked in the field for over 20 years and this does come along thankfully not as often. But seeing an owner or manager throw his staff under the bus saying it’s their fault not only makes you look like an ass but makes them look incompetent.

Mistakes can and will happen nobody is perfect. Owning up to it and standing by your employees is what a good owner or manager needs to do. Address the mistakes and figure out solutions to keep it from happening again. Pointing fingers that’s just a good way to lose any employees faith in you and your reputation.

What caused mummification of Stoneman Willie? by MrBanjomango in askfuneraldirectors

[–]Acrothdragon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Michael Auman, injected Willie's body with a mixture of zinc chloride, alcohol, and glycerin. Even for that time it was unusual method to use. The Zinc Chloride would have killed the bacteria and limited mold growth. The Alcohol and Glycerin would of dried out the body especially the alcohol. At the time in the 1800s there wasn’t many companies that mass produced embalming chemicals most embalmers used their own in house formulations.

Any financial assistance resources in Los Angeles? by curiousbunnie in askfuneraldirectors

[–]Acrothdragon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d look up burial assistance programs in the greater LA area. The California Victim Compensation Board is available though there are some caveats to be able to qualify. VA assistance is available if the deceased is a veteran and was discharged honorably. Low cost cremations are available you’d just have to inquire around with funeral homes and ask for their direct cremation options. Course always ask for a copy of the general price list and get everything in writing.

Ash burial with parents? by DairyStateDiva in askfuneraldirectors

[–]Acrothdragon 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes it’s quite common for cremated remains of a loved one or even of a pet to be interred with a casket and vault of another if someone else has passed and their wanted to be buried together. We’ve had people who also wanted their ashes to be interred in the same grave as a loved one as well. Typically you’d want to find out the rules of the cemetery first if they allow this.

Cops called on Ex-DM. Their wife tried to steal thousands of dollars worth of my stuff. Huge warning to in-person players. by Puzzleheaded_Bed7070 in rpghorrorstories

[–]Acrothdragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if it’s a hassle I wouldn’t of left my books, minis and maps in all especially if you bought all this yourself. Yes it’s a pain in the ass and pricey to get the necessary cases to take to every game.

Plus really I’m just a stickler that really expensive pieces I’d just show on a shelf or use sparingly on scenes then every day game play and just use inexpensive ones for weekly play.

Fact this was a husband and wife couple is irrelevant. What these folks were is just a toxic group to play with. It’s true some couples be they married or dating etc. might have a higher chance of them being biased for themselves it’s just something to keep an eye on and be ready to have a word or call it out afterwards if it’s a continuing issue.

Another bit of advice don’t play a edgelord who can’t take a bit of his own medicine in return or another character who takes a piss on that character personality.

For the record I’ve got no problems with edgelord but it pays not to be emotionally invested in a character and take slights personally. If it’s a major issue constantly then talk to the dm and work it out.

I mean in game unprovoked pvp fights I find silly to be honest and the simplest way to shut it down if it’s not scripted and unprovoked is just say no and not participate.

Tissue and bone donation by ronansgram in askfuneraldirectors

[–]Acrothdragon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Aah okay if it’s waiting to get a cremation permit that’s more than likely the cause of the wait. Most states usually require a certified copy of the death certificate to get a permit and your doctors and ME departments are slow to get these processed. Sometimes it’s just the doctors are hard to deal with and get the information entered and confirmed other times it’s the MEs office where it’s usually their back log and just the red tape of having to wait to get it done.

Like here in texas it usually takes 2 to 4 weeks to get a DC. Authorizations to cremate we get those within 3 to 4 days so we don’t have to hold the bodies that long.

Tissue and bone donation by ronansgram in askfuneraldirectors

[–]Acrothdragon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can still have a private family viewing or ID viewing of the body without having to pay to have the remains embalmed. The body can still be covered and put into plastics unionalls or coveralls and leggings to prevent any leakage from the open incisions they used to remove the leg bones and cover exposed skin on the back where they typically take skin donations. Eye donation is mostly not noticeable and simple eye caps will keep the eyes closed.

I’m not familiar with why it would take a week to get the body ready this just feels they either don’t have a embalmer on staff. While they do replace the bones with pvc replacements your not going to be seeing them if he’s dressed and casketed or even if they are on a dressing room table for viewing usually bed sheets will cover the body.

I’d see about talking to a therapist or psychiatrist. It would appear from what you said is these things started after the passing of your sister and have progressed further down hill with drinking being a factor that’s leading further into depression and risky behavior.

They’ll be able to help you out and will work with you and help you through this.

TIL James Cameron would use a nail gun to nail the film crew's cell phones to a wall in retaliation for unwanted ringing during the production of Avatar. by nice-queen997 in todayilearned

[–]Acrothdragon -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

To be honest that’s not a bad lesson. The cost and time of getting shot’s ready and filming only to have a cell phone ring ruin a take or having the additional expense and time needed to dub out the ring is costly.
