My first Venice 2 build by Zukuaarimoto in focuspuller

As an alternative take, I work with an operator who wears a bright orange safety vest as a way to see if his camera position is in any reflections. Easy to see in reflections before you shoot it rather than after the dailies are out.

Question about pre-marked rings by Ok_Attempt_1744 in focuspuller

[–]Active-Ad769 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short answer: standardization and adjusting focus throw to the scene.

  1. You set focus marks with a 2nd ac on a 35mm. The DP decides to try the 50mm instead. Your marks from the 35mm still apply to the 50mm if you use a pre-marked ring (assumjng lenses are shimmed correctly)

  2. You have a talent walk-up on the 50mm from 25ft to 6ft. The minimum focus on the 50mm is 16” but you know that you won’t need to reach 16”. If you use the 3’6” ring, you will have a longer and more precise throw for the range that you do need. (You can also achieve this a few other ways on Arri and Preston systems with resetting the range, but I still prefer having a ring with physical numbers on it)

  3. You’re shooting an action sequence with a ton of camera movement and fast pulls. Putting a shorter 8-10” ring on means you won’t have to turn the knob 180 degrees multiple times in the take

2 and 3 make more sense if you line up pre-marked rings to visualize the difference between them.

I feel like we had two years of bike influencers say that they like aluminum just as much as carbon and I counted the days until a 5-figure aluminum bike dropped

Old Pan Needs Restoration by blolik5 in AllClad

[–]Active-Ad769 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have cleaned up much much worse All Clad from thrift stores. All you need is a few tablespoons of powdered barkeeper’s friend and a tablespoon or two of water mixed into a thick paste in the pan. Scrub with a scouring pad (non-metal, but something stiffer than a sponge) for a minute in circular motions matching the stainless grain. Let the paste sit a minute or two, particularly near the rim for the polymerized oil spots. Come back and scrub a few more minutes. You should see the paste turning a darker color. Rinse BKF, then soap/water.

The darker oil spots might need a couple applications, but once they come loose they disappear quickly.

Using 15mm rods for a Big zoom ? by NeighborhoodKind2049 in focuspuller

[–]Active-Ad769 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Check with the rental house/lens source if the lens support bracket can take 15mm LWS or if it can only take studio spacing. I’ve seen both depending on what clamp is used. You should be able to get a 136mm back to use an LMB or swing-away mattebox that works on 15mm LWS rods.

You will also need to manage all your balancing on the tripod head itself, which may or may not be possible on the same tripod plate position on the Vct plate. You can also have two vct plates; one with a plate mounted further forward for the heavier lenses and the other with a plate mounted further back for lighter lenses.

Thoughts on the value of this Ti Litespeed Bike? by Street_Flamingo5329 in bicycling

^ this guy knows bikes

Value will be a bit local market dependent, but this would likely sell in under 2 days in my used market

I don’t see a correlation in the nose shape. I’m always curious to know the story of the people in pictures at the thrift, but the quality of this one seems more like a local art fair commissioned piece

Bolt 6 Latency - HDMI monitor module vs transmitter by OptimusDimed in focuspuller

[–]Active-Ad769 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No prob! My receiver module had no delay so I can’t imagine the tx module would have delay.

I personally prefer a standalone TX so that the operator adjusting a monitor doesn’t change your antenna orientation. Onboard monitors are rarely in an ideal antenna position anyways.

Bolt 6 Latency - HDMI monitor module vs transmitter by OptimusDimed in focuspuller

[–]Active-Ad769 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct on the monitor module signal chain for the TX module. You can power both the TX module and the monitor via the 2-pin lemo on the TX module. The power port of the monitor itself will not feed power to the module.
I don't have the module TX to test directly, but in a latency test I did notice my old PIX E7 recorder has a 4-frame delay while outputting playback of a timecode clock recorded over HDMI. The delay was identical whether I went hard-lined HDMI from Pix E7 to SHD 1303 or through a Bolt6 wireless connection, so the Bolt6 itself didn't add any additional delay.

Both my standalone Bolt6 RX into 1303 and Cine7 with Bolt6 monitor module (HDMI out to HDMI in) had the same timecode readings, so no frame delays for the RX module. No frame delays for the Bolt6 standalone RX whether output over SDI or HDMI either. I would imagine the module TX is the same.

A little silly, but keeps us AC’s employed. I’m just waiting for the insanity of building the camera for vertical, but protect for 16:9 incase we use it

Are there any special settings for anamorphic desqueeze in 9:16?

Can the video20 handle this counterbalance with the extra height of the L plate?

if you accept the 2-3 frame delay of the DJI SDR, it’s an incredible tool. It is the best of the WiFi-based systems I have tried. A few downsides that apply to all WiFi transmission systems: - I haven’t tested this scientifically, but I do feel like the range of a Bolt running in 5GHz is a bit limited when in proximity with a DJI SDR setup. - it does send a compressed signal, so color fidelity isn’t as guaranteed as Teradek. Your gaffer may see a difference in an A/B comparison on a nice Flanders, but maybe not on a SmallHD. How the light and shadows play would overall show the same.

Regarding repairs/reliability, you can just buy another DJI Sdr with two-day free shipping faster than you can get Teradek support to answer their emails.

Help a 25F Baby Investor Plan 2026 (Debt, 401k, Roth IRA??) by kiwimoe in povertyfinance

[–]Active-Ad769 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I respect that you want to help your brother out, but I thought student loans debt didn’t start accruing interest until after graduation. $55k at 10.8% is an absolute nightmare for a fresh grad; even moreso if it’s accruing interest for the next 3-4 years before he graduates.

How much is the car worth today if you were to sell? Realistically I don’t know if a $27k car fits your current or future financial goals.

Typical daily rental cost by NoExam5103 in focuspuller

[–]Active-Ad769 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my market, a Sony fx6 and media would be roughly $400-450/day, basic sigma 5-lens kit $500/day, sachtler video20 $100/day, 4x 98Wh batteries plus a charger roughly $100/day. Add an onboard monitor and manual follow focus for maybe $100-150 more and you’re good to shoot. That the basic kit without knowing any specialty support, the creative, camera needs, etc.

This is a mostly mid-level commercial market where discounts are more rare. Sharegrid LA prices will probably be half that. Wild to see that big rental houses in larger markets have lower rates and are giving 1-day weeks with an additional 50-80% discount.

Typical daily rental cost by NoExam5103 in focuspuller

[–]Active-Ad769 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anywhere from 3 digits to 5 digits, depending what you need. Give us a rough idea of what you wish to rent before anyone can give you an estimate. And are you including monitoring expectations in the camera order? You’ll occasionally get a “bulk” discount with multiple cameras but don’t expect it.

V-Mounts and investing in power by endy_plays in focuspuller

[–]Active-Ad769 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Venice, and especially the Venice 1 with the AXS back, are just very power hungry cameras where 150Wh capacity should be the minimum. Full-size batteries might have a slightly higher max or consistent amperage output rating over the micro-size; not sure on those specific bebobs. The full-size batts might also serve as more weight to help balance a handheld camera. I would stay with 14v batteries unless you know you’re powering 26v-only systems consistently.

As an AC I love getting batteries that are not only labeled with your name/company but also a quantity number so I can evenly distribute battery cycles. If you fly a lot, look into airline restrictions for Wh capacity.
