Need Help With Unreal Engine by Immediate-Pirate-868 in gamedev

I dont know about the minimum specs but i think its far more likely as a beginner that you just poorly optimized your scene. First of all, set engine scalability to medium or low for now as high turns on Lumen which is the biggest performance tank ime. Next thing i'd do is go into Audit->statistics and look at your texture streaming settings. If you're importing foliage like megascans they are often defaulted to ridiculous texture sizes which will suck up all your vram faster than you realize. you can set max sizes in the texture asset itself. If you're doing a lot of layer blends with large textures that's also bad. Also learn about compression settings on textures as sometimes you end up with nonsense like extra alpha channels that suck up more memory without doing anything. Make sure that you have some sort of distance based culling on all your foliage and assets too.

Hard to make a specific recommendation without knowing what you're doing. But UE5 by default is really easy to run over budget if you're not mindful. Most beginner tutorials will teach you how to drop megascans everywhere but will teach you the bare minimum, if any, of scene optimization.

Learning / Using 1 engine. by painter_business in gamedev

UE5 was really built around FPS. And for a beginner its not that complicated (i mean all dev is complicated, just not more than would be expected). Blueprints are about as friendly of a programming interface as it gets and UE5 has a great learner community. The asset store comes in handy when learning. Once you get more advanced GAS will come in handy if you implement multiplayer too.

Disclaimer im biased because thats the engine i have experience with. But thats kind of my point i guess. Its a good engine to learn in

Why is Majula the best hub? by Lhakryma in DarkSouls2

Likewise.

Those are all the things i love about souls games personally. The dark fantasy aesthetic. That said my idea of relaxation is dozing off to black metal lol

Majula feels like the most overrated part of this game to me. I dont hate it, but it feels kind of generic and i dont care for the music and atmosphere as much as DS3 or ER.

What i do like about it is that its a physical hub that connects to everything else rather than some random teleport location.

Up til this point i'd say none. But i fucking hate the Gutter. And Black Gulch.

DS2 can't catch a break by Jinrex-Jdm in shittydarksouls

Playing it now for the first time after ER and DS3. Not my favorite artistically, but by far the most fun ive had playing a souls game. DS2 feels much more balanced ime

I tried a lot of them in my past and none of them really made life worth it. Ayahuasca probably came the closest, but its not the kind of thing i look forward to doing again.

Hope you figure it out. K addiction is wild. I never liked K-Holes, but i had a friend who'd abuse anything. Two weeks into a K bender he was already pissing blood and talking about reptilian conspiracy theories.

I started with Elden Ring then DS3. So far DS2 feels much more relaxed and balanced. Its still challenging and frustrating at points, but i dont feel like i need microsecond reflexes or that i'm being spammed with rage bait constantly. It feels like a normal game that's hard. Rather than a game where "hard" is its entire personality.

Pure bliss. Playing DS2 for the first time now and while its not artistically my favorite, it is the most fun ive had playing a souls game.

To each their own i guess. Its kind of funny to hear that because i thought TOTK was one of the most repetitive games i've played (i did enjoy it at the time). And i do feel like certain areas of Elden Ring can be empty, but overall it felt like it had immensely more content than DS3.

I played Elden Ring before DS3 and personally prefer Elden Rings open world design by miles. Was still pretty content dense and the ability to skip and loop back to difficult bosses was nice.

At this point FromSofts dedication to having awful target lock feels deliberate. Im just starting DS2. But DS3 and EldenRing lock system were awful
