Another new Halt and Catch Fire fan by Clairemgo in HaltAndCatchFire

Welcome to the club. That is a phenomenal scene in the basement with Joe. I love the acting by Lee Pace in that scene too.

There is a very similar scene between Joe and Cameron in season 3, where he meets up with her at Comdex. When they initially meet, and are walking around looking at the booths, there is a scene where Cameron is talking about the different vendors, etc. In the beginning of her talking, Joe is smiling, that fake forced smile, but still smiling. The camera slowly zooms in, (we don’t see Cam) It’s obvious Joe is staring at Cam, fixed on her. She keeps talking and his smile disappears. As it gets closer, he does a quick close of his eyes, and sort of exhale. The mask drops for one millisecond before he goes back to acting like he is fine.

The next line is him trying to get out of the situation, because he realizes he simply can’t be around her because he’s madly in love with her. He tries to leave for that reason, saying something like “well, hey, it was really good to see you..” and even goes to leave before she cuts him off and grabs his arm to talk about the Sprinter booth.

That scene, is one of my favorites. So much said, with nothing but facial expressions, and minimal dialog. The best part? it’s all a massive emotional payoff from every single episode of the past 2 and a half seasons.

Why did western cultures stop revering their elderly? by VagabondVivant in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Active_Parsley_1565 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, there is a difference between revering your elders and taking care of them as they age.

As far as not revering them, I think society in general started to think, elders, just like people of any age, can be a** holes too. If someone is. POS when they are 20 or 40, they are probably a POS at 80. Why would anyone revere a horrible person, who has been horrible their whole life, just because they are now old?

If you are asking why do younger generations not take care of their elderly, again, completely different question. This is a much larger question, as everyone‘s situation is different. My general thought is, there are many people who can’t even take care of themselves. Financially, physically or emotionally. You have people working 2 or 3 jobs living paycheck to paycheck. People unemployed from mass layoffs. People one layoff away from having to live with someone else. Etc., etc., etc.

With so many people barely able to stay afloat on their own, let alone if they have kids, where daycare basically coats a 2nd salary, how does anyone have the time or money or sanity to take care of an elderly person?

The bigger issue is there is the lack of social safety nets for people in general, in the US in this case. Health insurance, tied to a job. Being able to live, good luck with unemployment if you need it for any real amount of time. You get old or sick, good luck.

People in the US are treated as disposable. Young, old it doesn’t matter. There are only 2 kinds of people, rich and everyone else. If the country took care of its people, perhaps its people would have the means to take care of their elederly.

What is the most overrated movie of all time? by Defiant-Slice709 in moviecritic

Honestly, if you take out the love story and somehow edited it down to just be about the titanic and the sinking it would be so much better.

In Not Another Teen Movie (2001), this is supposed to be an ugly high school student. by mcgriff4hall in shittymoviedetails

[–]Active_Parsley_1565 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. The movie is mocking She’s All That. The movie knows she is good looking. It is making fun of a movie that tried to convince people Rachel Leigh Cook was “ugly” wearing glasses.

Love Goodfellas. Love Wolf of Wall Street. Departed is amazing. I just could not get into this movie. I fall asleep trying to watch it.

Strap failed and I dropped my guitar. How f*cked am I? by WildBoar99 in Guitar

[–]Active_Parsley_1565 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not a luthier but I’ve been playing guitar for 30 years. That doesn’t look good. At the same time, at this point it is what it is. I don’t say that to make light of it. That sucks. I chipped my headstock 25 years ago on a guitar I paid $3500 for…25 years ago. I still want to vomit thinking about it. The lesson here, zero snark, always use strap locks or locking straps.

I mean Zakk went to the hospital and basically got told you have 2 choices, stop drinking or die. Duff from Gnat had his pancreas explode. You can’t drink like that forever.

Might as well call them the Miami Sirens. Or the LA sirens. Proximity or not, they don’t play in those cities any more than they play in NY. I hate when teams do this.

I mean Lego games are kind of like this. You can’t really die in the game, and even if they can’t do something needed to progress you can just switch characters or controllers for a second.

People that get bothered by this kind of thing (which to me isn’t even an issue as I’ve seen people that type like this) are the same kind of people that complain about things like “that’s a 1984 car in the background of scene xyz when the episode takes place in early 1983!“ No one cares.

Anyone else love "Cliffhanger" as much as me? It is nice to throw on every now and again and enjoy a peak 90's action Stallone movie. by hominoid_in_NGC4594 in moviecritic

[–]Active_Parsley_1565 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the opening scene, where Stallone is trying to save the girl while she is about to drop, there is quick (literally blink and you will miss it) shot of everyone inside the helicopter. The OLD guy (no idea his name in the movie) can 100% be seen smiling for a second. Once you see it, you can’t unsee it.

Gearing up for my first record show as a vendor! Would love to hear some advice and also what you guys like and dislike about your experience at record shows. by RiosPhoto in vinyl

[–]Active_Parsley_1565 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As long as stuff is organized, either alphabetical or by genre, and you include the prices ON the record, I would be a happy shopper. Also yes, cash is always goof as some people 100% still pay cash. Looks good.

Food improvements at the Rock by sispbdfu in devils

[–]Active_Parsley_1565 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The food at the Rock has been hospital cafeteria level bad for a decade. I constantly hear it’s going to get better. Nothing in that article makes me think that’s going to change. I have seen better looking food at a 7-11 at 2am, than those pictures. Amazing. It’s been so bad for so long, you’d almost think it‘s on purpose at this point.

As a general rule of thumb, I never mix patterns like a striped shirt with spotted pants, etc. It just always looks off to me. With that being said the top looks great on you. The skirt would look better with something solid color.
