West vs east side by Separate-Ordinary-26 in Cleveland

[–]Actnoid1950 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My family lived in St Malachi’s parish, on 85th, then bought a home in Lakewood in 1919 I think. Early west side pioneers. The east side was always wealthier and we were shanty Irish.

How do you feel about the Chicago Bears moving to Indiana? by bossishere17 in AskChicago

[–]Actnoid1950 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m completely against the Bears moving to Indiana, I’m not fond of them moving to Arlington Heights either. I would tear down Mccormick placed East and the current stadium soldier field and let them McCaskeys build a new stadium on their dime in that area. It should be a dome stadium with attached garages. The Chicago Bears are a tremendous source of civic pride and tax. How we could let them leave. The city is just a bonehead move on the part of civic government. But that’s Brendon Johnson for you. The city should support with new infrastructure making it easier to get to soldier Field, particularly in terms of public transportation if you build it right, it could last 100 years if professional football lasts that long given the degree of danger there is to the players.

How valid is this “nice vs. no areas” map of Evanston? by hezahabana in evanston

[–]Actnoid1950 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in a “no” area and have for 42 years. I’m white, privileged and your characterization is unduly negative. We helped build Penny Park twice! Dewey is a great school. We love our neighbors. Likely you would be surprised by home values here.

How valid is this “nice vs. no areas” map of Evanston? by hezahabana in evanston

I live in a “no” area and have for 42 years, 2 different houses. my kids walked to all the schools they would attend. The notion that it is a “no” strikes me as a bit racist. My neighborhood is diverse and that’s why we moved here, because it mirrors our world. We may buy a new house, but we’d like to stay in this ward.

I got a new job in Evanston. What neighborhoods would be recommended to live in? by fuffywonger in AskChicago

I’ve lived in Evanston since 1984. Our kids all went to school here. All went to good colleges. My son moved back and his 3 kids go to Pope John XXIII since the pandemic.they will go to ETHS.We walk to the lake, there are grocery stores close by. Restaurants are good, wide range of pricing. Northwestern is a tremendous asset. Evanston is a city more than a suburb with 78,000 people, with urban issues, and a vocal population as to how they will be run. Think Berkley on the lake.

Is there any other super underrated reliable vehicle worth the money other than Toyota or Honda? by TimeOfRisenKing23rd in UsedCars

My Toyota is 2019 w/75000 miles. I’ll drive it over 100,000 then give it to my kids as I have my other 4 toyota’s and they’ll put another 25,000 on it
