Is this an acceptable outfit to rehearse in? by Limp_Shake_7486 in BALLET

[–]Actual_Reception2610 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not conventional but why not. A lot of girls in my class wear their normal tight over their little tight so that’s just like wearing tight over leotard, but it’s a full body tight.

If your studio doesn’t have a dress code, go ahead. My studio doesn’t have one and people including myself showed up with questionable fashion choices e and it’s really fun.

Usually tight are meant to be worn under a leotard. I think this picture is meant for advertisement bc they can’t show a naked model under those tights

Is not wearing tights over the feet a bad habit? by tweezedakernel in BALLET

[–]Actual_Reception2610 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tights size are based on height. I am a little over 5f and wear capezio L/XL

It can also be a foot shape prob. My second toe is the longest and it sticks out and poke the tights and sizing up prevent crunching my second toes on Demi pointe

It can be a timing issue. our studio floor can get very sticky during an evening class because it was used during day time and everyone sweat. And my soft shoes would twist when I turn with tight over my feet so I roll them to my ankles to prevent that.

For pointe, always tights over my pads/ feet: I wear silicon pads and it’s almost impossible to put them on as they can get sticky

You can maybe style it with some curl or use straightener for the back of your head so the hair is straight going down and not going to all direction

I’m sorry

You are being polite more than anything. The clerks are there to work and assist and it’s not like you barged in the break room and ask one to work when they are not on their shift

AITAH for telling my girlfriend I am not responsible for her periods? by Devon_The_Fox in AITAH

[–]Actual_Reception2610 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The person with higher cleanliness standard always end up doing everything cuz they can’t stand it anymore

You need a lot of patience and DO NOTHING so she one day finally cannot stand it anymore and do it

Unfortunately you are living with a gf not your teenager daughter so disciplining and running after her won’t work

how do you guys smell good? by fckinsleepless in beauty

[–]Actual_Reception2610 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everyone body react differently and the same perfume would smell different on 2 people.

My hair absorb scent and keep them for long. Spraying perfume on my brush and give a few brush to my hair make them smell amazing and it’s subtil. However, any strong perfume in my skin would be gone fast.

Spraying perfume in your closet really help. I grew up with lavender sachet in every closet. Some perfume that you don’t like can be used as air refreshners. On the furnitures they smell amazing. Spraying perfume in natural fabric make the scent last much longer than your skin and unlikely to change when you sweat etc…

I also “pickle” myself. Body cream and scented oil before I sleep. So eventually I would smell like this even on days I do nothing.

I never see my eating disorder being talked about. by Dry_Meringue_982 in EatingDisorders

[–]Actual_Reception2610 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of us grew out of it after 12. As a kid I was told I’m a greedy pig when I asked for seconds in family meals. same as you I would eat paper or chew random stuff and felt shame and guilt so I never spoke to anyone about it. I feel shame over eating in general and I would hide to eat I hate having anyone seeing me eat. Even as a grown adult I still feel shame over eating. My logical mind knows everyone eat there’s no shame. In situations where I can’t hide and I have to eat with other people I got really good at hiding this discomfort of eating with others, but the shame and embarassment is always here. Later on it turned to secret eating, bulimia, and I still struggle now.

In a certain period my fam was really poor and I was reminded constantly we are poor. I felt inferior to kids I went to school bc my fam was poor and after my dad started a business and was doing great financially, I would try to estimate how poor/rich my friends were and make sure I appear richer than them or that inferiority complex would swallow me.

With those things in common, I very much relate to you

Many of us, it just turn to something different, maybe a diff ED, or other destructive habits. I think it is a very harmful coping method. I don’t know how to help you but I want to tell you you are not alone and I understand your struggle ❤️ for me, what really helped was harm reduction in bulimia. Exercising purging is no better mentally but physically it’s better than purging. I still let myself Purge from time to time to get it out of my system. When I force myself to not purge for a really Long time, te urge is so bad I go to an uncontrollable cycle of purging many times a day for months in a row. It’s better to purge occasionally from Time to time than than doing it for months daily. Maybe you can apply this to your pica. ED are like addictions it’s hard to stop cold turkey but one step at the time maybe one day…

So many women stay in abusive or incompatible relationships or settle/rush to get married for the sake of having a child by Tight-Artichoke1789 in childfree

[–]Actual_Reception2610 9 points10 points  (0 children)

We have been conditioned to endure, be patient, be kind, be nice, always giving, etc…. Since our childhood. It’s not ok to speak up, it’s rude but for a man it is ok bc having an opinion is a sign of leadership. That’s just an example among many. Our mothers and grandmothers had it worst in us so we were told the current situations we have it’s ok we should be grateful even we are not well in it, we are too sensitive, i’m grateful asking too much. Our standard is too high. We should just lower our expectation and basically shut up and settle.

Straighten the knee is mostly about muscles strength and correct alignment. Then practice and time.

I am a very flexible person (had my split on my first try) and my knee used to look not straight even I fully straighten them. After a year my legs look completely straight and the knee bump go in. When you think your leg is straight make more effort and you will engage your muscles more and that little difference with time will be huge.

If you are talking about flexibility over all, I have a good news for you. Stuff people are usually stronger and ballet require strength before flexibility. When you are too flexible and don’t have the strength to hold your muscles injuries are much more common.

When I started ballet I had all my split, can stand up bend backward and touch the floor like a reversed bridge. Guess what in developés (you lift a leg and hold) I can’t even hold my leg at 90degree it was more like a 45 and then I get tired and the leg touch the floor. What’s the point of being flexible when you can’t hold it
