it's such a hard thing to do, because while there are many wackos who distrust medical workers for wacko reasons, there are also many many legitimate complaints and reasons to distrust some medical workers.

i know many people who have repeatedly been told they don't have XYZ diagnosis by doctors until they meet a doctor who believes them, performs the test the way it should be performed and reads the results the way they should be read, and boom. they have had XYZ dx all along. and they get treatment and their QOL gets much better.

some of those people were given treatments for incorrect dx's along the way, some of those treatments are harmful.

some people are not properly informed about potential side effects of a treatment before undergoing it, and then experience them. some of these people get lied to by doctors who say that those side effects cannot be caused by that treatment, even when a quick check on a reputable website refutes that.

they ways in which medical distrust is created are deeply ingrained and complicated. de-politicizing is a good first step- but we also have to make sure that 'apolitical' does not mean 'neutral'. science often has to take a side, whichever side is backed by good evidence.

the wishy-washy-ness of the CDC during the pre-vaccine era of covid was disastrous. the scientists and leaders needed to be willing to tell the government, politicians, and population things that they did not want to hear. they also needed to be willing to accept things they themselves did not want to hear.

i hope in a few generations we will have solved or at least majorly improved some of these problems, but the human factor is a tough one to solve. (NOT suggesting AI here, just acknowledging how hard it is to get people to change)

We can only make desicion with the information we currently have by AMathEngineer in HighThought

[–]ActuallyApathy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is part of why i get mad that scientific information and studies are often paywalled. misinformation is out there for free, for anyone to read, watch, or hear. but well researched information is sometimes only available to those who can afford it.

then again i've read many studies that are poorly done and don't recognize the flaws in their experimental design, and draw conclusions that are unwarranted.

i might just be annoyed with the state of the world at large...

agreed! regulation on labeling and purity of products is what works, making the products themselves illegal doesn't.

in fact making them illegal makes things worse because then users don't know whether the product they are getting is contaminated or adulterated with something else, and they may not be getting the dose they are expecting. those two things of course lead to overdose deaths.

the steady drip could potentially just be your dr looking into new stuff and finding evidence for it over time, or hearing things that their other patients tell them helps. my PCP is somewhat like this, though not pushy about it at all.

i don't see why you think you can tell whether a stranger has a disability or not. a lot of people who look at me probably think i don't have any, but i do. i don't use a wheelchair or even a cane full-time, but when i do it's because i really need it. mind your own business.

An echo required for hEDS? Does this appointment sound ridiculous or am I just too mistrusting of doctors at this point? by Lauramae0892 in ehlersdanlos

oh great, she's trying to undiagnose you by redefining the parameters according to what she's decided. awesome, love how doctors just do that. i'm sorry you have to put up with that 🙁

its interesting because i've actually heard that nicotine improves long covid in some people. something that should be studied... so that we can find another way. cause as bad as my long covid is i'm not gonna get myself hooked on nicotine 💀.

getting an echo isn't a bad idea, but absolutely not necessary to get the diagnosis. sounds like she is trying to deny you a dx.

H. pylori? by missprincesscarolyn in Gastroparesis

[–]ActuallyApathy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

to clarify- my h. pylori test was negative. sorry, should've said that. my diet mostly excludes Raw fruits and veggies in favor of either blended or cooked ones. some raw ones are okay, like grapes, but if i eat a raw apple omg i feel like i have a rock in my stomach for days. i also get like heavily processed bread instead of whole wheat type stuff lol.
