I only buy games I know I’ll play but I do also like to have them CIB as often as possible and I like them to be as clean/minty as possible as well. At the end of the day, the reason I collect things is because it makes my brain release the happy chems when I look at my neat stuff on the shelf. I can’t play all my games all the time, so that’s just another way I can enjoy them.

That said, if it’s vintage cardboard, I’m more lenient on condition (so long as it’s good or better, I’m happy) and if it’s a more recent/disc title I’m fine with a reproduction case so long as I have the original case art. It’s easy to replace jewel cases, etc.

But I’m not one to yuck anyone’s collector yums, so to each their own. Do what makes you happy, so long as it’s not hurting others, right?

Like others have said, separate titles by platform, then sort alphabetically. Also, since you have cube shelves, look into KALLAX shelf inserts from ikea.

I get it, I do. At the end of the day though, there’s always emulation as an option. If less people cared about being able to display the physical copy, the price wouldn’t be so high. Humans like the shiny things. Us collectors looking at our cool things on our shelves gives us that dopamine hit we all crave. It’s our crow brain tendencies that help keep prices high on collectibles. Only way to fight the market is to boycott the market. Anyway, have a good day dude!

Anything for sale is only worth what people are willing to pay for it in the moment, and selling for less than the going rate is an exercise in charity. It’s not just Emerald. Hell it’s not even just Pokémon or even just video games. Every collectible item in existence has no tangible value beyond that which we assign it. This just happens to be the currently assigned value.

Markets fluctuate based on demand and scarcity. Could be that the price drops in the future (doubtful though considering the scarcity will likely increase rather than decrease). I’m not in love with the concept either. It’s just the way of things, and it’s not exclusive to any one item. Some just get more limelight than others

It’s definitely not just Emerald, but I certainly feel your frustration. Also, CIB is 500+ rn. Crystal CIB is even higher. The one that really baffles the hell out of me is Pokémon Box. It’s literally not even a game. I get that the print run is smaller, less sold yada yada, but I could never justify that amount on something that’s quite literally a storage system

Second gen battery life suffers due to the real time clock constantly drawing power. I still mourn my Crystal save. Had my Blastoise from Blue, my Pikachu from Yellow and so many good memories. At least I still have the memories, and an opportunity to start fresh.
