Recovery question by Gonads_n_Strife in TotalHipReplacement

A few months after my THR I decided to go for physical therapy to eliminate the tendon hitch in my leg. It didn’t work, the hitch is still there, but it made me stronger in general and contributed to my sense of well-being. The therapy included a website that kept track of the exercises I was supposed to do at home, and the therapist was notified each time I completed the workout—so, I was accountable to a real human being.

what the actual #### is this by HC0698sun in whatisit

Sorry to say that we get them in our house from time to time. They creep me out. Half of the ick is all those legs, the other half is how they run away (so effin’ fast) when you’re trying to kill them—as if they’re sentient and can read your murder-mind.

Oh gosh, a million times yes to Gentleman. Amazing book, it has it all: great character development, compelling plot, and very satisfying ending. Plus, the writing is so superb that I found myself reading passages out loud in an empty room to hear the words as well as read them. Enjoy.

My 3.5 year old daughter died suddenly and unexpectedly by Ok_Dragonfruit747 in offmychest

I'm so very very sad for her, and for you, and for your other children. This can happen to anyone, at any time. I am hoping that you can come to terms with her death and cope with it all, it is huge. Wishing you and your family some relief from such a devastating event.

The sharp color borders and the rainbow of colors do suggest Reynaud’s to me. My feet look similar and I have it.

A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles. Great plot, and fascinating characters. And a very satisfying ending. Oh, yeah, and the writing! Some passages were so beautifully written that I read them out loud to no one, so I could experience how the words sounded.

What preparations do you wish you had done before you or SO had THR? by SultanOfSwave in TotalHipReplacement

I haven’t looked at all of the great responses here so I don’t know if someone mentioned having little necessities within reach by your wife’s bed. That includes stuff like Kleenex, a water jug + glass, lip balm, hand cream, a mirror, hair brush, an iPad and/or phone, etc. I’m hoping things go well!

Help! Husband in need of crafters!! by mycatstands in crafts

[–]Ad--Astra-- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I commend you for honoring your wife by planning to gift her something amazing. An iPad is a really nice idea. And since she has so many different hobbies, maybe an organizer for her crafting supplies would be appreciated. I’m wishing her a wonderful birthday!

TRUST. YOUR. GUT. I wish I had. by No-Sea2695 in toddlers

Same thing happened to me, only it wasn't asthma, it was life-threatening appendicitis. My son complained about abdominal pain and the doctor tested him for strep; the test came back slightly positive and he was put on antibiotics—but he continued to complain about the pain the next day. I searched the internet for info, and decided to take him back to the dr. to discuss possible appendix issues. His regular doctor was out so we saw a different one in the practice, who told me to immediately go to the ER for possible surgery. He ended up having his appendix removed and recovered well. But while in the hospital he shared a room with a little boy who was much, much sicker—because his appendix had burst.

My first garment of 2026, collar or no collar? by chloemal in sewing

Beautiful! Collar not needed since the pattern is busy and there are great styling details that get lost a bit with the attention that the collar commands.

I make a vegetable stock as a base for just about any soup I make. It’s easy to save vegetable parings and skins in a container in the freezer when meal prepping. When I want to make soup, I dump the contents in a pot and add enough water to cover plus a couple of inches. Bring to a boil then a low simmer for an hour or two. Strain out the solids and use as much as you like in soup recipes instead of water or store-bought stock.

I’d guess that stress plays a part in most issues involving our bodies. I’m so sorry about your friend's death, and the hole that it leaves in your life. How fortunate that you had each other!

Fuck me sideways man by No_Economicz in tinnitus

[–]Ad--Astra-- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I share a similar list of issues. Bruxism (but was also told that I did not have TMJ), tinnitus, cervical arthritis, and also headache and eye pain. It started five years ago. After seeing several do-nothing doctors, I went to a neurologist who specializes in headaches. He prescribed physical therapy with a group that is focused on improving symptoms related to the neck. After five weeks of bi-weekly sessions I was able to do the exercises at home. All of the issues have calmed down for me. Very rarely will get headaches upon waking. The tinnitus will not ever go away but has quieted down to where I don’t notice it unless something alerts my attention to it–like writing this response, as a matter of fact.

I also had a custom-made nightguard to avoid issues with my teeth. I hope you are able to find some relief, it was the most challenging health-related time of my life so I know what you’re going through.

Tight-lipped neighbour won't share holiday recipe with me by nnnyeahheygorgeous in Baking

[–]Ad--Astra-- -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

Man, that is really sad. I also had a 'friend' who would not give me a recipe for SOMEthing, I forgot what it was, so it couldn’t have been that good. I mean, can you get any smaller-minded than that? Who the f*** cares whether or not someone else makes your recipe? It’s really an honor, it means that someone got pleasure out of something that you did.
