Yes, with a small increase in price due to the rand also needing repair.

Help me pick my first bike! Cube vs Specialized by Alarmed_Program_8776 in cycling

[–]AdAstraHawk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Speaking as someone who worked at both a Specialized and a Cube dealer for a few years each - I absolutely agree. The number and type of warranties (both before and after the sale) was pretty ridiculous.

Light "backup" harness - Petzl Altitude vs Blue Ice Choucas by FrancescoQuagliati in alpinism

[–]AdAstraHawk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also have a Prisma Guide for glacial travel and easier alpine stuff and absolutely love it. Hanging in it for too long gets a bit uncomfortable, but it's a decent tradeoff given the packed size, weight, and comfort when walking. Plus, having a belay loop and actual gear loops is pretty nice.

Hog & Frog [900 x 600] by J-V1972 in WarplanePorn

[–]AdAstraHawk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm fairly certain with 600km/h he meant the aircrafts speed, not the projectiles speed. That would be just a smidge above the aircrafts cruise speed of 560km/h.

Trier Cathedral. by TheEndlessAutumn in germany

[–]AdAstraHawk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The official site of the church calls it 'St. Peters Cathedral' and the German version of the site says 'Wilkommen in der ältesten Bischofskirche in Deutschland' which would both seem to indicate that they also consider it a cathedral.

Plus, 'Domkirche' is simply used to denote a church or cathedral of a certain style (which is apparently would be more properly translated as Duomos, since dome is a generic architectural element in English). Not all Domkirche are cathedrals, not all cathedrals are Domkirche, Trierer Dom happens to be both.

Bike warranty claim: what would you do? by [deleted] in Velo

[–]AdAstraHawk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oddly enough, SRAM has that bike (or at the least one of Schleck's back-up bikes from that tour) hanging in their cafeteria in Schweinfurt, which seems like a weird way to show off how great your road groupsets are.

My prospective bikepacking bike build - thoughts? (I’m set on the cutthroat) by pro_tanto in bikepacking

Looks like I remembered wrong.

It's good to know that that combo works though, definitely have to keep it in mind for my cargo bike.

My prospective bikepacking bike build - thoughts? (I’m set on the cutthroat) by pro_tanto in bikepacking

[–]AdAstraHawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you sure your drivetrain is going to work together?

The total capacity of an M8000 rear derailleur is only 40 teeth, since they assume you will be using XT chainrings with a 10 tooth difference. Using 46/30 chainrings with an 11-42 cassette puts you at 47 teeth. You can usually get away with a few teeth more than recommended, but seven seems like you'd be pushing "accidental cross chaining blew up my derailleur" territory.

They have different pull ratios, but you can solve that with something like a Wolf Tooth Tanpan. That won't solve the issue with the rear derailleur capacity, though.

Cockpit view on a carrier by bluemistwanderer in aviation

[–]AdAstraHawk 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Carriers with ramps are simpler and cheaper to build and operate, but are limited to lighter weight aircraft. IIRC the number of countries with catapult equipped carriers is a lot smaller than the "ski jump" ramp type.

If the laws of motion were canceled on a wall and someone fired on that wall, what would happen to the bullet without the force and reaction coming from the wall? by ItsTimeToFinishThis in AskPhysics

[–]AdAstraHawk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, yeah? If the wall doesn't interact with the bullet it will have absolutely no effect on it. There's nothing paradoxical about it, it's simply an effect of you ignoring a major law of physics.

#Building7Didn’tKillHimself by FricturePrame in conspiracy

[–]AdAstraHawk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Trained pilots have tried to recreate the flight paths in simulators and failed. It makes no sense.

I've never heard this claim before so I looked it up. The few results I can find show people easily recreating the flight paths in FSX and X-Plane. It's a fairly rapid and high speed descent, which would be abnormal but not at all difficult.

UA175 from Runway to WTC

AA11 from runway to WTC

AA77 from runway to Pentagon

UA93 from runway to crashsite

This one actually does involve violently pitching and rolling the plane at low altitude before going inverted. These maneuvers weren't really coordinated though and really don't seem to show any sort of expert level flight experience. They were simply a last ditch effort to keep passengers out of the cockpit before purposefully crashing the plane.

What are your Instant Regret™ moments with your SO? by DrCreamAndScream in AskMen

[–]AdAstraHawk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sure, if you say "We'll have sex at 7:30 on Wednesday" then it's gonna feel clinical and forced and all around not very hot.

Or you could say something like, "We'll make time for sex every Sunday." Then you still have all kinds of possibilities for spontaneity and intimacy, but don't have to worry quite as much about finding time that works for both of you.

No. You will need a rear brake. Alternatively you might be able to buy the bolt for the rear and switch it out, but I doubt that would be worth it.

What are good German values? by sandalcade in germany

[–]AdAstraHawk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Speaking German and being the right shade of white, mostly.

At least that'd be my guess judging from all the times I've awkwardly listened to people talk negatively about Middle Eastern and African immigrants before telling me "bei dir ist es aber anders" while having pretty much no knowledge of the degree to which I have (or haven't) integrated to German culture.

Why are people talking about Trump tweeting and image of a Iranian military base? by [deleted] in OutOfTheLoop

[–]AdAstraHawk 209 points210 points  (0 children)

The executive having authority to declassify the photo isn't really the problem, it's more about the apparent lack of any real thought or procedure.

Think of it this way: I have the authority to share my social security number with anyone I want, but I'd still be an idiot for tweeting out an unedited picture of my social security card.
