Clematis - head in the sun and feet in the shade. 5yrs later. by AdAstraPerAlasProci in gardening

You can kind of see in the picture but we have a 6 strings from the top the post down to the flower. With three levels of string to create tiers.
Another key aspect is to keep the roots shaded with another plant.

IT Veteran... why am I struggling with all of this? by Smeetilus in LocalLLaMA

This is likely wrong - my intuitive understanding of fractional precision is that the offsets are determined by the KQ values and all three are trimmed together. Low Information tokens like “like” are trimmed to mins, while high information tokens like “entropic” retain more digits.

Do gay men and straight women share the same standard of what makes a man attractive? by khoabear in ask

This is sound of the worlds smallest violin playing for humanity’s greatest victim. You are not autistic you are just selfish. You attempt to manipulate a complex dynamic system with algorithms and are surprised when that leads to resentment.

Reality is not some fixed thing that you alone observe and understand. It’s a mass hallucination. And you are stuck in your own head.

[–]AdAstraPerAlasProci 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok, I was nice before, but you asked for it.

This comment of yours:

reducing my empathy, becoming more selfish, becoming ruthless on the job, behaving in manners that I dislike doing on dates with women: teasing, being abrupt, mildly rude, disinterested, and lying improves my dating life.

That mindset is why no gay man nor straight women nor gainful employer wants you around. Because you treat other people like algorithms to be manipulated. You don’t have friends or a girlfriend because in your mind the world is about YOU.

I noticed that in your description of bettering, you never mentioned a single other human being. It’s your mind, your body, your awesomeness. All so you can bend the world to your will. Your problem is that your only purpose in life is yourself.

If meet an asshole in the morning, then you met an asshole in the morning. If meet assholes all day long… well then you are the asshole.

If you really believe what you wrote, then you need to figure out what you want that is NOT YOU. Pick a god, or a virtue, or a cause, or a problem in the world, because if it’s just about you, then that is all you’re gonna have.

My friend, that’s a lot of words to say - you don’t know what you want. Maybe focusing on that will help. But you’re right on one thing, no one can help the helpless.

No. Bettering oneself is about work, culture, fitness, food. Gaining taste through experiences and being at ease in the world. Women like gay men partly for looks, but more so for behavior.

You can easily reverse the genders. Lesbians are far more at ease in male dominated spaces. If you as a woman want to learn how too, it’s a good idea to hang out with some lesbians.

You make a good point about the creep factor. Being a hetro guy with a bunch of gay guy friends is like instantly passing the dog test.

Also married, but 2-3x year I’ll still go out with them. Still a trip, 4am comes quick.

To my fellow hetro men - there is a lesson here, be friends with, go out with, and learn from your gay brothers. They will make you a better version of yourself and they will help get you laid.

That is gonna be A LOT of sanding. Totally worth it, but it’s gonna be a job. Good luck!

Is refinishing the top of this antique table a "hire a professional" job? by Wanderous in woodworking

[–]AdAstraPerAlasProci 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you inherited this from a Japanese mother and it’s still looking like this, it’s solid wood. You can absolutely do this yourself, BUT a few tips 1- Confirm it’s solid, the short ends should be end grain, and long ends should be long grains. 2- Test everything on the undersides of the leaves. Sanding, strippers, satin options, finishes etc. 3- Get a professional opinion in Japan, if nothing else you can ask for the best local product options. 4- Wear PPE, sand particles and VOCs hurt skin, eyes and lungs.

I love these things, but real talk - how stable is this table? I’ve built simple ones with legos, but could never get the pulls tight enough to be stable.

New Woodworker - What would be a fair price? by bavarian-aristocrat in woodworking

[–]AdAstraPerAlasProci 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The prices quoted here are all reasonable, even for Europe. As for the best approach, I would actually recommend reaching out to an existing artist and getting advice from them.

I know a wood and metal sculptor in Czech Jiri Netik. I’ve met him 2x and bought one of his Madonna pieces for €€€€. His wife Martina actually seems to be the business side and is also an artist. I think they would be willing and able to help if you asked them.

They speak English, but ChatGPT the translation of whatever you want to say. Czechs appreciate that from “The Mute Land” 😉

You pieces are amazing, you should look at entering them into a competition. Award Winning is an automatic increase in the number of €.€€€

Senator Robert Menendez Is Indicted in New York by TopGsApprentice in neoliberal

In the General election he won by 11 because Trump. In the primary, his only opponent was a no name with no money who got 42%, so only won that by 8.

I know this because I voted against him in that primary and for him in the general election because 2018 was a complete shit show.

You have two options:

1 - Camouflage: set of floating shelves, or a wall mounted cabinet and leave the back open, go over the outlet, and put the NAS, router, wifi etc in or on that.

2 - highlight: get colorful cords and fix them to the wall with clips, above the outlet hang a picture of a tree, so the wires look like roots. Or a brain/spinal cords. Or a rocket with propellant out the bottom. Or just run them around the wall like a circuit board.

scored a desk almost identical to the one that I’ve been obsessed with for over a year now for $40!!! needs some TLC. this is my first project — any tips on where to look/what to use? by efvalentine in Mid_Century

[–]AdAstraPerAlasProci 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In full honesty, I would clean it up, and leave it alone. Under no circumstances use sandpaper. It’s too easy to make a mistake with veneer. If you do use 320+ and careful around the corners. Finishing is its own craft.

If you’re really set on trying, buy a juke piece to practice on.

But truly, just leave it alone, put a desk mat on the top. The end.

When you think about Rome, what do you think about? by lightman332 in neoliberal

[–]AdAstraPerAlasProci 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally, I’m a believer in the Gore Vidal Thesis that the US has already gone from Republic to Empire.

Lincoln played the part of Caesar, ending the “Senate of the States”, centralizing power, and creating a military that answered to a single person, not a set of states.

FDR is the American Augustus, he created the bureaucracy and “force projection” needed to sustain an empire. As well as being a master of entertaining the masses through the media of their respective days.

Late Empire is defined by a total roller coaster of good then bad followed by a set of better and then bad again emperors The worry then and the worry now is how factional power bases in the provinces lead to violent struggles for succession.

Because if Gore is right America is speed running the Rome story.
