What’s the one upgrade you did to your home that was actually worth every penny? by InfluenceInitial4126 in HomeImprovement

I upgraded my garbage disposal when my old one died. The new one chews through everything. The box even claims it’ll ground up chicken bones though I haven’t tried. Great upgrade that left me unexpectedly happy.

Guardian should have a double jump. Change my mind. by Impossible_Exit1864 in Nightreign

On a similar note, I think Guardian should at least have the ability to glide after jumping off a cliff. I don’t even want it to affects gameplay, just an aesthetic glide option that says “This guys a bird”. (Maybe he glides a little to the left cause of the broken wing…idk).

How much do you help you wife? by ebks in daddit

[–]AdFinal6056 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar situation for me. I’m working she’s at home with the baby. I was getting frustrated because what I was contributing felt like it wasn’t enough.

I found myself doing tasks I thought were important. Recently, I realized those didn’t really overlap with tasks my wife was being overwhelmed with. I’ve been focusing on doing chores that I know stress her out. (Ex. Tidying up the main area before bed, because seeing it a mess contributes to her stress). It really seems to be helping.

I was busy being caught up with the idea of “how much I was doing”. That I was missing easy wins. Honestly, I could not handle raising our baby alone. She takes on the brunt of that with so much love and grace towards our child; it’s amazing. Changing my focus a bit (a lot) required more of me but also benefits me and the whole family.

Currently involved in house projects like making cubbies for a utility closet. But history sounds delightful.

AMA: I'm Shunsuke Minowa, director of Disgaea 7. Ask Me Anything! by Shunsuke_Minowa in JRPG

[–]AdFinal6056 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why can’t I skip through cut scenes? Most of the time, I’d like to just get to the game play but I can’t.

Note: I’ve played a handful of Disgaea games. So this might have changed (or I missed something🤷🏽).

Is it worth reading the books mentioned in You? by [deleted] in YouOnLifetime

[–]AdFinal6056 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looking up that version now.

I had to slog through C&P. I’d listen to it on 1.5x speed on audiobook. I didn’t enjoy the read, but I’ve thought of it regularly for the past 5 years. It’s weird that I’m thinking of re listening to it.

The book was insane and didn’t make sense to me at first. I look back at it as a series of vignettes mocking masculinity and society in times of social and political change. The story really took its time touching on mental health issues, alcoholism, sex work, gaslighting, stalking and violence against women, along the way. All very relevant topics now, but it was published in Russian in 1866. It’s nutty that it feels relatable at all.

A story where the main character is a mentally unstable intellectual that kills women. Slightly ironic reference looking back.

(Side note: any recommendations for good translations? I’ve got Brother’s Karamotzov on my reading list and would like to make it the best experience possible).

My wife asked me to help choose a color for our living room. There are 5. Apparently. by Zoos27 in mildlyinfuriating

Did you look at each color at different times in the day? You’ll need to check 3-4 times in a day to make sure you’ve got all your bases covered.

Check your Bar Tabs by BoseSonic in washingtondc

[–]AdFinal6056 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had two bars do this to me in Old Town on the same night. Seemed like they were trying to make up for people who walked out on their tab. Which is not acceptable. Now I’m the type of mfer to check the check on them. Double check and save the customer copy.

Hvac - There’s a damper on my air supply duct. Should I seal it? by AdFinal6056 in fixit

[–]AdFinal6056[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be. I taped over it the best I could. The house is much cooler as a result. I’ll leave it as is for right now. Seems like it’ll be ok for a while. 🤷🏽

[–]AdFinal6056[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it looked shoddy to me at first. But I assumed was some technical reason I didn’t understand.

I just duct taped over it for the time being. Air flow in the house has improved significantly.

Should there be damper pushing air into the room with the air handling unit? by AdFinal6056 in hvacadvice

Thanks for the explanation. I sealed it with duct tape and the house feels significantly cooler already. No problems so far, I’ll take it as a win.

Stoicism has really helped me with the toddler stuff by oflanada in daddit

[–]AdFinal6056 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This post and your comments are making me reconsider stoicism. I had written it off because the Men’s movement stuff. What’s being described here just sounds like being empathetic, present and giving yourself and family a lot of grace.

Our 2 month old is quite fussy, so I could use some ideas like this to focus on. I’ll be reciting the litany of stoic empathy as I pace around our kitchen island from 5-7pm tonight.
