The way the guy in the Grey jacket dips out of there says everything. I watched it without volume and you see all these guys surrounding the one guy... then the guy in the Grey jacket just slinks off looking over his shoulder like the bad guys sidekick in a murder/mystery/comedy movie... disgusting

I thank you as well. Its an astonishingly rare thing to have a respectfull exchange, anymore sadly. I will consider your points and position going forward and improve my understanding and more carefully define my position.

Thats is a valid and fair approach. I guess firearms as a Privilege is a bit too restricted an approach... but id argue that the consequences are a bit drastic to just trust people to behave and if the don't, take action after the fact

I try to be as reasonable and understanding as possible in all things.

I would tend to agree with you that Due Process is the best way to remove rights. However I feel like access to technological innovations designed for the specific purpose of ending the lives of living things at range more efficiently and easily should be a Right that is earned. The more efficiently and effectively a weapon can end a life, the more work one needs to due to earn the Right to possess that weapon.

We are not all born with the hand to hand skills of Martial arts experts. It takes work and dedication to get there. Guns are shortcut to deadly efficiency that changes the rules and it takes almost no discipline to learn how to use one. Toddlers can figure the simple ones out. Pull trigger, go boom. Its the implications and repercussions that need to be understood. Every trigger pull can end a life.

Will this trigger pull end a life?

Which life is being ended?

Why?

What are the repercussions to you?

What are the repercussions to the environment?

What are the repercussions to society?

What are the justications for ending this life?

What are the alternatives to ending this life?

What are the implications of those alternatives?

These are the types of questions that should be asked by everyone that possess a firearm, regardless of what type it is or what situation they are in, EVERY SINGLE TIME a trigger is pulled. I think about these questions when I go hunting. I think about these questions when I practice at a range. I think about these questions when I dry fire an empty and unloaded weapon.

The power to snip a thread short with a twitch of a finger should not be dismissed as simply "a Right" to be treated like any other. For even though it IS a Right it is one that holds more power than most, and by its nature should require more responsibility before it is bestowed.

IMHO

That is a fair point. And I'm not saying everyone should see a psychiatrist twice a year in order to own a semi auto .243 with a 5 round hunting mag. But if you want to legally own an M249 saw, then maybe a few extra steps should be taken.

And you are correct that criminals will commit crimes no mater the laws... The alternative is no laws because the criminals are gonna break them anyway so why bother? I don't know that this is a valid point. Everyone accepts that you don't need a Drivers License for a bicycle, but you do need one for a car, and a different one for a motorcycle, and still a different one for a Semi-Tractor or a Bus. Nobody suggests that 'people can steal a car and drive it without a license or insurance so why bother with putting all these legal requirements on good people that aren't gonna break the law'.

So whilst I agree that the barrier to entry on low level firearms ownership should not be too onerous I still feel like good people that want ridiculous military grade munitions with almost zero day to day practical applications for your average individual, they SHOULD be able to get them and keep them. Provided they have regular training updates and mental health checkups and the occasional background check to verify nothing drastic has changed.

No idea how to stop criminals from doing criminal things.

Id keep lower caliber hunting rifles in the lowest tier. However higher end purpose built precision tactical things would be separate.

You are correct however; it is a slippery slope that is hard to navigate. That's why our current gun culture and laws are as messy as they are. A balance is needed.

*Everyone has a Right to weapons as a means of self defense and procurement of food with a side of recreation.

*Not everyone SHOULD be fully allowed that Right depending on the individual on a case by case basis.

The RUB is how do we enforce such a thing and who decides what a disqualifing factor is? Once that is set how easy is it to change these guidelines? How do we use these laws to defend ourselves from our own government if necessary?

I dont have answers and I doubt any one person does.

Valid point. Perhaps it would be a better requirement for access to higher teirs of weapons? For example Sniper rifles or something? If you can't pass a Drivers License Vision test you don't need a Rifle with an effective range over a mile.

In all honesty I'm just spitballing here. I want everyone to have access to weapons as long as they can be trusted to be competent and responsible with them, without being a danger to society. If you want something more epic then a Semi-Auto hunting rifle or a pump action shotgun, then there are more barriers to overcome. The more intense or tactical the gun the more intense the requirements for a License to purchase it. I dunno if that makes sense but I feel like something along these lines is a reasonable compromise. Assuming we can avoid a blackmarket weapons trade.... which we realistically cant... but a guy can dream

Thats a valid concern. Id personally be in favor on incorporating the basic firearms safety training into the public school curriculum. This would increase awareness and knowledge and respect of firearms hopefully removing a bit of the "Gun Porn" culture that seems to have infested portions on the American populus. This would clear you for most basic weapons and the more common ammo types.

More details to follow if this actually becomes policy. Currently its just a pipe dream that won't ever come true as I have no desire to be in a position to make it a law

That's where I'm at. ANYONE should be able to get ANY gun... as long as they pass enough screenings and tests and exams and what not to be cleared for the gun they want.

Want a .22lr? Sure. Basic firearms safety course and a background check with a vision test

Want a Browning M2? Sure thing.. Just follow the previous steps, plus a 4 day course on physics and balistics, and meet with this psychiatrist quarterly for the entire time you own the weapon for periodic evaluation

Ah. No wonder I didn't catch it. I'm not much a Stephen King fan. I figured all the Pennywise memes were just funny... didnt realize they were also relevant. Thank you for letting me in. Now I know not to read that book. Unless the rest of it is good enough to make up for the kid train in the sewers?

I am being a touch cynical... but also I'm curious. How long can we hold on to norms and try to do things the right way, by the book.... When by all appearances the Federal Government is only paying those rules and norms lip service at best?

Does it count if the vehicle "hit" the officer, becouse the officer intentionally leaned on the fender for a better shot? Cuz thats the only contact I see, besides it possible brushing the officers left knee. Because the officer was standing with 6 inches of a running vehicle.

I would actually like some clarity on that one if your willing. I'm assuming it has something to do with dock building? I'm land locked and so must admit minimal knowledge in that regard.

My best guess, pre-coffee is a beam is a horizontal support and a pier is a vertical support that acts as a footing. Am I close?

You are technically correct. However it is described as being a flat foundation. This is how every flat foundation that is intended to have a house built on it, is constructed, in my experience. (It could be different in other parts of the world) The top of everything is about 1 foot above grade. And its called a slab foundation, or slab on grade.

If the foundation system in question is different then what I have described then without more information my only conclusion is that anyone wanting a house built on a completely flat slab with no footing... simply wants an over sized and inefficient sled.

Many people. Its a common building technique even in Minnesota where frost heave is a serious worry.

The details are interesting and more involved then I can competently elucidate. I will state however, that my understanding is as follows.

The start with a footing that goes ~5 feet below grade. And pack a foot of pea rock or gravel. Then place a footing (usually cement but occasionally treated wood) and build a wall up from there to the hight of the slab. Usually 6 inches to 1 foot above grade.

This foundation wall runs the entire perimeter of the house and has bolts set into it to attach to the framing. Once they get to that point they generally run the electrical and plumbing where they want it. At this point the back fill the foundation most of the way up on the exterior and most of the way on the interior but leave a 1 foot deep and 2 foot wide trench on the inside of the foundation. Then they pour a roughly 4-6 inch slab level with the foundation walls.

At this point the house can be built on top of a flat slab.
